    I keep getting streaked marks on my kitchen cabinets with this paint, Benjamin Moore paint called advance satin.. Original finish was sprayed with lacquer. Paint stores are all of lacquer and satin so we went with semi gloss Benjamin moore . We sanded and cleaned the cabinet then applied Kiltz primer in latex. Now after applying the advance paint it looks very streaked! Am I using the wrong primer?

    Great video. Thanks for all the helpful info you've been giving us. I have 80s oak cabinets and want to paint them with a brush & roller. After watching your videos I decided on BM Advance. The idea was, Coverstain oil bonding primer, then BM Fresh Start water based primer, then 2 coats of Advance. Went to BM store and they said that since I'm using the coverstain primer, I won't need the water based Fresh Start on top of that. What's your opinion on skipping Fresh Start? I don't want unnecessary work but at the same time I don't want to screw it up. Thanks Tom

    So, considering this is apparently a Benjamin Moore video production, are we to believe that the surfaces shown at 4:24 and 4:33 represents the best of what we can expect from this product? I wish I'd seen this before I bought the stuff. I suspect this was supposed to be a spray-only product marketed to the trade. (Seems to be very few bad reviews from sprayers.) but was so expensive sales were poor(?). Decision was then made to sell to broad-base retail market for increased volume(?). Who knows. Impossible to get VERY good results with even a good brush or roller. For the price, it should jump out of the can.

    Just found out the hardway. Your going to do it again unless you hit it with Jasco paint and epoxy stripper. Get as much old paint off. The paint is decaying and shrinking. You put new paint on old shrinking paint and you will get the same.

    Nice video, Justin. I have searched all over for application help and found your video most helpful. A couple questions, though: 1) You say "don't go too close to the edge," but then I see you cutting in at the edge (right after the first, away-from-the-edge strokes). Am I understanding correctly that you cut in in two steps? First: away from the edge; Second, at the edge, blending into the first? 2) Do I lay off the brushed-on coat or just the areas where there are issues? I find that when I lay off the entire area (which I thought you were suggesting), I end up over-working the paint. Brush marks and globs everywhere. I'm thinking that the goal here is to just get the product on the surface and let it do it's leveling thing, only addressing, minimally, the obvious issues, like drips, etc.? I'd really appreciate a reply!

  • @007Variable
    @007Variable6 жыл бұрын

    Catherine Osborne of course you must cut the edge line with paint or it will not be painted. He said, " dont bring to much paint into the edge" or you'll have a thick line of paint on the cut line which will be difficult to remove or spread since your paint is in the corner against a different color.

    The trick with Advance is to do lighter coats, you don't want to over apply this product because it is so thin it will run when over applied, which seems to be what a lot of people are having issues with, professionals or otherwise. Per Benjamin Moore as well as any other paint manufacture in the world will suggest two coats. This is not for the sake of trying to get more money out of you, this is so the sheen and color are uniform. Think of it this way, if you have a wall or door or otherwise that you are able to look across at a shallow angle and you apply one coat a few things will more than likely be visible. You will see inconsistency in the sheen (glossy spots and dull spots) as well as different tones of the color this is due to the paint being more heavily applied in one spot compared to another. The second coat really establishes the uniformity of both the color and sheen. Hope this explanation helps.

    I recommend acrylic CIL. Only paints tinted with titanium oxide (and nothing else) are called technically called WHITE.

  • @Existentiallytorn
    @Existentiallytorn6 жыл бұрын

    Advance has a stock white in all of the sheens, however this stock white tends to be closer to Benjamin Moores' "Brilliant White, PM-4/OC-150) Chantilly Lace is by far the brightest white that Benjamin Moore offers. All the tints used by Benjamin Moore to make those colors are Titanium Dioxide based and personally I have never had a report of Advance yellowing in the 5 years I have been at my work.

    Has a nice finish ones dried but a pain in the butt when spraying, you really cant cover with one coat, takes like 3 to 4 coats to actually cover, if you try to cover with one coat you are going to have a nice mess to clean afterwards, regal select is a much better product and actually cheaper

    +Col Mosby i use advance daily, so i know what I'm talking about, it's not worth the money, for a paint to cost over $40 you would think it would cover better and easier to work with but all the above are apposite with advanced, I use it cause they request it, that's the only reason.

    Worst paint I have used in over 25 years. It's like painting with glue, Runs drips and sags like I haven't seen with a paint since 1986. You have to police your work when you're done and I've done this work professionally. It also ruins the hilt of the brush. Coverage is just average and the finish is nothing to write home about. NOT WORTH THE PRICE OF A NAPKIN. Benjamin Moore should be ashamed of themselves.
