At Made by James, we're committed to revolutionizing design education by empowering a new generation of designers to lead the industry. Our mission challenges the status quo by prioritizing real-world client interactions and radical creativity over outdated, dogmatic methods. Dedicated to honesty, action, and empathy, we foster an environment where designers innovate fearlessly and redefine their own version of success. By developing the next generation of design leaders, we not only strengthen our industry but also ensure it is an environment where both designers and clients thrive.

oii welcome back to youtube
Is this a pivot like The Futur did? moving away from brand strategy and design, to making a "teaching" platform? In any case, I am interested. I tried doing stuff before with the Futur but it never really clicked. Add my own flaws that made the situation worse (covid, depression, imposter syndrome you name it), I stagnated very badly. Would love to give this a whirl and find myself again as a designer.
The Futur do great work. MBJ will be a little different as it will be bring the clients into the conversation to learn from them. As a designer myself, with 20 years experience, i intend to focus on nurturing the existing talent designers have to help them become better communicators and help them deal with REAL world scenarios... I hope you find the content and bits we do catalyse the internal transformation you are looking for. You are not alone.
@@madebyjames already bought some of your courses. So, looking forward to giving myself a push with this platform.
As I bow down to you.... THANK YOU👊🏽👍🏽🤝
I follow you for a long time and couldnt agree more. Side question: Intro music is dope... could share ID?
Its a tune my friend timmy made for me
Brilliant and insightful. Smart thinking and forecasting. Can’t wait to see the future products from this initiative. Do it!
I am on the case
Love it my man! Amazing idea, In real world, people get more interested and push hard, they'll get a chance to work in the real world and gain confidence from the first day. I'd be lucky to be the part of this idea
❤this James! I think the 3 Cs are spot on. I struggled for many years with the problems you noted (and they still pop up occasionally). Putting my focus on being ‘corporate’ and ‘client’ smart has made all the difference in building my business over the past 20 years. If I can help further the message in any way let me know!
thanks Amy
Viva La Revolution !

Im with you James

Sounds like a hard dose of fresh air and reality. Can’t wait to see more. Love it 👏
I love fresh air
Do you have the manifesto as a download?
no mate
As a complete beginner, but not overly young I can see these problems ahead of me prior to even getting my first clients. Thanks for your openness and lack of gatekeeping, this is real worldwide community attitude 💪🏼
I hope i can help
Absolute madness! The only solution is revolution. I love the approach based in reality instead of content and influencers.
real is all we have
James thank you for this the education system is failing the young designers, it our duty as seasoned designers to share the knowledge!
Epic
The point about the vacuum is so important.
You know it mate
I often feel left out of these design convos as an in-house designer. I am really looking forward to more of this kind of content
Amazing mate - it will be a learning curve for me too but i will bring more and more goodness as i evolve in this new role
One size, trully does fit one size!! MBJ has become like this voice of reason in this madness for the last 2 years. Also as a person who has worked in hospitality since 18 for the last 6 years, I couldn't agree more that it gives you a much better client relationship education than actuall design education does at the minute. LOVE 2:37-3:05!! Here for whats next!
Love this mate
Love that this popped into my feed - timely given i'm set to lose my job at the end of the month. I thought about going freelance and calling it "Made by Jimmy", guess it's back to the drawing board with that one 😅 Definitely keen to hear more and, if you're looking for more participants, to get involved. Great video 👏
Epic sizzle
Corporate Smart is underrated, especially in individual designers. Some agencies have that, but others fall flat when it comes down to the design stage. As a corporate designer and a client, I’m starting to see it as a benefit to celebrate instead of a negative, “boring” skillset. Those “cool” designers are awesome, but I tend to lean more into imposter syndrome when that’s all I see 😅 I’m very excited to see where you and your team take this ❤
it sure is
Here for the revolution! I love this so much!!!!!! You have hit the nail on the head, James. I've never been able to use scripts with clients because each client is so different and each need is so different. I think the lack of empathy and actually listening to our clients, like you said, the "client relationship" is missing.
no more one size fits all
Preach! No one else as real as this online
real is real
This looks like its going to be really in depth. Taking me back to my first love which is design and then working with unpredictability - a.k.a Clients 😅. Bring it on MBJ 🔥
lets do this
Agree 100%.

I am excited about this! A change/reboot is needed. Great video! 🙌🏼

100% correct in so many ways James. I left a thriving design business that did over $120K in the final year because I didn't want to continue working with clients that didn't want to hear my expert advise, they just wanted a mouse monkey. I have also struggled with imposter syndrome for many years, this and constant comparison with others. I still do, for the most part, have imposter syndrome in my current job, but am really trying hard to push through. with regards to education, the issue as well is the Universities and Colleges pushing out hundreds of new graduates every year that have been "educated" by professors and instructors that haven't designed anything in decades and teach based on outdated design concepts and ideologies. Looking forward to seeing where you go with this. Keep up the amazing work you do, you will be the change that this industry needs.
thanks mike... have the best day and i hope the stuff i continue to put out into the world helps you
Abso-freaking-lutely!!!!!
love it
This is a revolution I wanna be part of! I’d love to be your Italian translator if you’d ever decide to go multiple languages! 💪💪💪
thanks pal
the system needs a change.
Yes sir
Great video. I love hearing your thought process.
Appreciate you my friend.
Awesome approach, I look forward to seeing how and where this goes James. Legend.
We are all here for the ride mate... lets go!
Very interested to see where this goes. Its hitting home for a lot of beliefs I have had for a long time. @madebyjames please keep us posted with development of this project. All the best brother. 🙌
You will be first to know
YES !!! The KING of no gatekeeping, The MASTER of uplifting, THE MAN himself, in the design industry. Welcome (back) to KZread, I'm so excited for the content you're going to share. I've completed The Brand Identity course, The Branded Type course, now saving for the Logo Legends 🥹 For anyone wondering if it's worth the purchase - IT IS !
You can gain a lot of self confidence by learning to sell yourself as a designer. The problem that i see most is that people sell themselves short and therefore lack confidence for the actual value they bring. The education that i had involved clients and partners, so this might be different in different countries. I am also not familiar with any "one size fits all" appraoach in art shooling? (any examples that anyone can share?) - what i heard a lot was that people felt not prepared enough for the real world when leaving art shool and i think a big part in that is helping people finding their own approach (but this is unteachable in a shool system to a degree since everybody is an individual and would need individual care) I do agree that people need to be prepared for the real world - i would be curious in how you would teach unpredictabily in a shool format. :) This is not a statement against your video (gave it a thumbs up!) just my perspective from a different angle.
I love your perspective
@@madebyjames alright :D
You are spot on my friend, glad to see that you are back on KZread, rock on 🤘
Thanks James. Love you❤

James Guy, we last spoke back in 2021....Its been some days...I love seeing you with such a valuable content as always!! Cheers man, would love to talk to you !
thanks pal
Yaaaay... your back on YT 👍🏻 As an 'old school' designer who's lost her spark a little with all the noise online I'm looking forward to hearing more James ☺
lets do this
@@madebyjames where do you find your inspiration when you’re feeling a little ‘creative empty’ or a little burnt out?
MBJ gonna be rattling some cages! As a designer who lost his spark and is trying to find his way back on the right path I'm here for it!
same here!
Not here to rattle - just be a little different

Stoked on you and the work you're doing. Can't wait to see more. I'm sure we'll cross paths again between Into the Woods and Creative South and Crop. Love ya mate!
Yer buddy
Liked and shared! I am so on board with this it's unreal! I've gained so much from your courses, James. Thank you for letting us into your world. 🙏🏼
Lets go mate
Love it James! Always appreciate your content and commitment to teaching creatives applicable marketable skills. I share your frustration in a number of creative business fields. It seems all anyone is teaching or selling to creatives is how to teach and sell to other creatives because that's how they actually made their money, not marketing skills to clients outside of their peers. Seems like it's all turning into a pyramid scheme. 😳
thats why i want to make a stand!
Those initial concerns are 90% of my day every day, I’m so excited at the prospect that I’ll be able to change that finally.
i got you mate
It's interesting how the universe works. About a week ago, I found this channel, watched some of the videos and noticed that the videos were released several years ago. It's a shame that the videos are no longer available, I thought. And now the author is back with a new video...
great timing
🙏 Thank You!

@@madebyjames Looking back, I kinda messed up and went to a vocational school that, well, let's just say wasn't exactly honest about job prospects after graduation. (Think 18-year-olds promised dream designer careers!) Thankfully, myself and a few friends saw through it and bounced before finishing and before they took all of our money. Fast forward, years of working in other fields to support the fam kinda dimmed my design dreams. But thanks to you and some amazing people in my life, that spark is back! Juggling family and a career as an electrician AND reigniting this passion this last year has been quite the challenge - especially on a budget! But hey, relearning is half the fun, right? Just wanted to say a huge thank you for everything you do. The courses, the tools, the books, the positive vibes - it all means a lot!
Love it James! Buzzing that the KZread is making a comeback!
Happy to be back! Cheers mate!
Glad to have you back in YT James❤❤❤
next week starts with two vids a week
Oh my visual update noted and loved

Zara's design has struck a cord with me my friend. Listening to a seasoned pro designer like yourself with that one really hit home. Although relatively new (In a professional sense), I was fortunate enough to be asked to create a canvas design for a client in relation to her losing someone very special & the sheer weight of the task was daunting for me. However, I was reduced to tears myself when I saw the reaction my design had on her. Art has always been my personal crutch in hard times but to see the impact it can have on others is something truly special. I commend you for a great design & for completing a project that must of been profoundly important for all concerned.
