A battle that Hacker comes out on the winning side thanks to the Israelie ambassador giving him a helping hand. Which he uses to to give the foreign office and Humphrey bloody nose and shoes himself in a heroic churchillian light.

Humphrey is so duplicitously Machiavellian as he leads jim up the garden oath in respect of the dog and uses the cost of said operation to vget hacker to back dowen over defence cuts.

Its Machiavellian brilliant to see that as soon as they get a whiff of advancement or demotion, that both Humphrey and Frank haver the knifes out and doing their level best to preserve their position or nick their colleagues. Climbing the greasy pole as it were.

I wonder if George R R Martin watched this show and based Baelish/Varys on Sir Humphrey. The whole show is like a comedic version of GoT’s small carbinet meetings.

Some of the best writing in the history of UK television went into YM and YPM. No exaggeration to say we may never see their like again.

Absolutely brilliant - it has lost nothing of its currency since the time of filming. Although 'raves in the naves' of the cathedrals stolen from Rome after Henry VIII's apostasy were considered impossible when this episode of Yes PM was written and recorded. So if one does a 'fast forward' from there, then the state of the CofE is utterly dire now in direct comparison. 'Collapse' and 'Oblivion' are now the words to describe the process and outcome of the CofE. Once a formidable, even if heretical and protestant denomination, the CofE is finished - apart from in the Global South which will last a little longer, but where the end is assured. Ave Virgo Sanctissima! Exterminatrix of Heresies!

Reality is stranger than fiction, in light of the latest revelation that the disgraced Post Office boss Paula Vennells was on a 3-person shortlist to become Bishop of London. Revd Vennells was a village vicar in name, because she had to wear many hats - Post Office CEO, C of E Ethical Investments Committee Chair, Torturer of postmasters, etc.

How much of the salary comprisrs of "" allowances, Sir Francis ? A modest portion... London city allowance - Dorothy... Is that counted as part of ur salary, Sir Francis? Allowances do not comprise as part of the civil servants salary, Dorothy, am sure u'd know... Are they, the allowances, returned to the treasury? Most certainly not Dorothy... Allowances are given to the civil servants to meet a certain standard of living befitting their status , takibg into consideration, the nature of duties they perform in the interests of the sovereign... How much, 25 % or 50% of the civil servants salary cimprises of London city allowances? Around 35-40%... Why's the Healthcare system, the NHS in comolete shambles, Mr Humphrey... How many nurses & Doctors on the govt NHS - payroll, Humphrey? 6530 nurses & 4250 Drs plus Junior fresher Drs... technicians... And the number of patients? Itsca long waiting list, round the year, Dorothy... Why's that, Humphrey..... Shortage of qualified staff, Dorothy... Whereve all the Drs & nurses gone, vanished? Hv the medical colleges shrunk? Not in the least, Dorothy... Pvt hospitals... multi speciality ones hv sprung up..... hvng a glitzy corporate look n feel... highly qualified professional MBA marketers employed by these Pvt hospitals.... And what kind of marketing these highly qualified MBA professionals are engaged into, Humphrey? Offering discounts on Dominoz pizza ? 2 free tkts to the Lord of the rings movie on a weekend? Why not shut down the NHS altogether? What'll happen to the thousands of qualified nurses & drs n technicians? The PM would be in an embarassing spot... Am sure he'd never concur to such an outrageous thought... Then why allow soo many pvt multi speciality hospitals? To meet the pent up demand... year long wait lists.... what would a patient in need of acute emergency aid do? Book a slot in the graveyard, Mr Humphrey ? On the contrary, he'd be guided most helpfully by the highly qualified professionals... n sent on the nxt available flight to, Bombay or Madras... And the travelling, hotel stay, expenses? who bears? London corporate pvt hospitals - Sales n marketing promotion expenses? allowable tax deduction expense? It'd be a most profitable expedition for the English patient, Dorothy... In fact he'd end up saving a considerable sum of sterling pounds! And the quality of professional attn & treatment in India, Bombay n Madras n Delhi? At par with the West or dare i say notch superior... for the Drs recommended are most of the ones hvng spent considerable time in London / EU / US - hospitals... its a well oiled professional network... Integrated tightly by the giant Pharma & Insurance corporations Mr Humphrey? U see given the Rupee - Pound / USD value its a win win equation for our citizens.. besides the pvt super speciality hospitals in Bombay, Madras, Hyderabad, Bangalore are patronised, exclusively n largely by the Emirati Arab - Isam - Sheikdoms of entire Middle East.... Our patients, Britishers, are made to feel a Dubai / UAE / Kuwait / Bahrain stay!!! On steroid aggressive sales & marketing staff in the Indian super speciality corporate hospitals, promoting medical tourism... And if the fastidious, Arab - Islamic Sheikdom is satisfied n happy with the professional attn & devoted care recd by him / her, absolutely no chance of even remote harm to our patients... Would u prefer Mr Humphrey to be treated in India instead of London ? Mr PM would most certainly preempt such an exigency, i'm confident... After all its the matter of the defence of the realm, isnt it Mr PM?

What's the raise Sir Frank that u've granted urself, lavishly generously? It hardly amounts to 6 % pa Dorothy.... Really Sir Frank, is it 6 %? back of envelope calculations yield a figure in excess of 43 % pa Sir Frank.... We've handed over the entire boxes of files containing detailed workings, schedules, calculations for the entire civil service, Ms Dorothy... Where's the Schedule K, Sir Frank? Humphrey? Aaahh its in the bottom of the 6 th box, Dorothy.... Aaahh, here it is Mr Humphrey.... What've u indexed the pay scales & raises of the civil service to Mr Humphrey? Ti the industry standards, Dorothy... Soooh u believe in extracting a profit out of serving the nation,? serving ur country-pplz ? We're merely following the well est customs &, norms set in motion since centuries.... Who're we to upset the well oiled cart running smoothly for hundreds of yrs? Oil & Gas / Energy industry, u choose to benchmark ur pays & raises? Onerous duties & responsibilities we shoulder Dorothy.... Of loooking far faaaaar ahead, peering into the nxt century, unlike.... unlike what Humphrey? unlike the back bencher MPz, the politicians looking at their survival from one friday to nxt friday? Uhhhmm sadly but unfortunately, Yes Prime minister... Really Mr Humphrey, Sir Frank, u look far ahead into the nxt century or is it merely a matter of enhancubg, furtgering, cushioni g, feathering a golden nest for ur nxt generation, & nxt to nxt generation? and soooh onn in perpetuity....? And what was the base year uve indexed to ur pay raises, Sir Frank? The usual one Dorothy... a few yrs ago.... Few yrs? or is it few decades, Sir Frank? 1973 to be precise.... the great Oil shock year? Looking at the onerous loads we carry on our slender shoulders, of balancing the best interests of England vis a vis the Amerikans, the entire Arab world, & above all the Russians i hardly thinks it attracts an objection or adverse glance, Dorothy.... Why not apply the same standards, the Oil & Gas, the Energy industry pay scales to the entire Civil service hierarchy, Sir Frank? It does apply, in fact Dorothy, effectively the take home pay amounts to much more than the Oil & Gas industry employee.... Take hime, pay in Cash &, or in kind? How many civil servants hv we sacked, punished for unethical, dishonest, fraudulent profiteering out of their service to the nation, Mr PM ? That's interesting query, Dorothy..... let me recolkect... which was the last year a civil servant was sacked, Humphrey..? Last decade u mean, Mr PM? Half a century ago, maybe, Mr PM ? But if u look carefully, Dorothy, u'll notice, we've reduced significantly the civil servants in force, over the years.... Ooohh yeeaah really Sir Frank...? And how've u managed that miracle, Sir Frank? By merely transferring them to Museums, Trusts, where they do not count as civil servants anymore, & yet continue to be eligible for the same lavish pay scales, perquisites lifestyles as the Oil & Gas / Energy industry? And in any case, Sir Frank, since the govt passes on any & every hike in the fuel price to the end user, the common pplz, why should the same principle not apply to the civil servants too, Sir Frank? Negatuve incentives? That'd be preposterously absurd, Dorothy.... Surely u cannot propose punishing us for the vagaries of the LME & Brent crude index, Dorothy? But aren't the consumers, the end users being punished, precisely for that? Vagaries ofcthe LME / LSE? Why should they suffer while the civil servants continue to remain insulated forever from any & every Oil price n / or natural disaaters / shocks?

The most hilarious series ever, in my opinion! Oh, and I was raised as a non-practicing Anglican in Australia. So non-practicing I became an atheist as a 10 year old after my only 3 church services I only went to because of a Christian youth club I briefly joined. 🤣

The four-stage strategy was how the political class acted every time something obnoxious emanated from Brussels, and would still given the chance. As time goes by this seems less like satire and more like a fly-on-the-wall documentary.
