I like to make videos about Splatoon's lore and worldbuilding, with a bit of theorizing. I also have an undergrad degree in linguistics, and have been studying Japanese for some years. I'm not totally fluent in Japanese, but I at least know enough to translate Japan-exclusive Splatoon info into English... there's a lot of it! My goal is to make information about Splatoon's lore more accessible.
Aside from lore videos, I like to draw. there's a couple speedpaints and and amvs and unrelated things in here....not making a separate channel for those.

Different species of octopus and squid can change their inkling form
Dark asf fact: Octopus when they mate...the female one will snack the male one...when the female octopus lays eggs, she will quit eating and wastes away(basically rotting), and by the time the egg hatches...she dies This process is called senescene where after an octopus mates/lay eggs...they die Woah...luckily they didnt add THIS kind of things in da splatoon lore, if not it'll get as dark as my mind

I know this is like 3 yrs too late but im really invested in splatoon lore again especially salmonoid lore and i found out that the song dilurge dirge has kind of a dark meaning a dirge is a mournful tune that expresses lament and grief. Because on every run we actually kill the salmonoids which is also a dark detail imo

I have a theory about the magnetic anomalies thing in the Deepsea Metro. So, basically, the deep sea is located in domes built by the ancient humans in an attempt to survive the rapidly rising sea levels. Assuming that their technology was more advanced than ours today and, judging from the size of those things, that they were made to be occupied by millions, if not billions, they could have laid superconducting cables to transport their electricity around. Superconductivity is a phenomenon that is actually already used today (just in very niche applications) where a material loses all its electrical resistance, allowing it to transport HUGE amounts of electrical current without loss. So, assuming those humans were more advanced than us today, to supply those facilities with power such cables would have made sense. Now, something strange happens when a loop of superconducting material is subjected to a changing magnetic field: the field induces a current in the wire, but that current.. Never dissapers - the loop becomes a permanent magnet, of equal strengt and opposite direction to the field that was imparted on it. Now we need to account that humans had world wars, during at least one of those nuclear weapons were used (and who knows what other freaky technology was utilized). Nuclear weapons on detonation create an EMP - a powerful burst of electric and - yes - magnetic fields. So if, by accident, the engineers of the Deep Sea domes had created a loop out of their superconducting wires in the grid (and such loop could be kilometers in size, as large as an entire dome perhaps) and some bozo overground were to detonate a nuke above it, the loop would become permanently magnetized by the enormous field strength of the EMP, creating a zone inside it, where the magentic field strength would be ~magical~. For the same reason octarian floating technology could be allowed to exist - small, metre sized loops of superconduting wire would get locked in the magnetic field like peas inside honey by the same mechanism, and remain floating indefinetly (or until corrosion breaks down the wire material).

i feel like the deepsea metro map is DEFINITELY intentional!!! iso padre takes the place of spyke in inkopolis square so i feel it's safe to say that if not repurposed, it was at least made aware to general public. along with the time gap and the nils statue in hammerhead, i feel the deepsea metro was "refound" (it was already connected to the square, just seemingly abandoned?)
Haha i know this video is older and splatoon 3 has since revealed some things xD but Salmonids begin the 'goblins and orcs' of this world has also been something ive thought quite a bit about. Just an entirely different culture, and one that can and will eat you sdfsdfsdf

It’s actually kinda funny that after I get back from my trip to Japan in the spring, the new season comes out and I see the new stage and I’m like “hey I was literally just there in this station and now its a stage”
i'm guessing the eiffel tower was just carried away by the water all the way to the middle east or even far-east asia, since that would work with the Japanese mountains keep in mind, the ocean had TWELVE THOUSAND YEARS to carry this piece of metal, it could have probably done it in 1200 years
