    Hi what do u think of self watering pots that u fill the water on the bottom compartment so the roots could absorb what they need? I still pour a lil water on the top but not much. I travel a bit so this is helpful but there is no way to know if it needs more water cause the first 3 inches are dry all the time. Also once the water on the bottom molded. Any recommendations so I can continue using this pot. I have a fiddle leaf and this type pot works well with it and is thriving but my monstera is looking droopy and browning edges

    Hi Geze, Great Question. Yes, can't check the top soil if using a self watering pot. I find with a self watering pot just make sure the water is completely used before refilling. I find that help to prevent mould. Thanks for supporting the channel and Happy Monstera Gardening ❤️

  • @PlantNationMinh
    @PlantNationMinh20 күн бұрын

    Hi Prettylagoon, Thanks for the good question. It's hard to tell if it's because the soil is too wet from the information provided. There is alot of factors like type of tree, root size, pot size and how often you water the tree. The general suggestion is go 1-2 pot sizes bigger then the original pot when repotting. It might not be growing as the tree might be establishing more roots. Hope that helps you. Happy Gardening ❤️

The plant left the greenhouse 2 weeks ago and was in great shape, the whole is covered in mildew, but I’m going to pour your suggestion over the leaves and change the ph. I hope it survives as it was a gift from the greenhouse owner, if it dies it will go into the compost pile .

    How long can you grown them in water? What if you only have small cuttings-can they stay in water long term?

  • @PlantNationMinh
    @PlantNationMinhАй бұрын

    Hi, Excellent questions! There is a potential to continuing grow water forever and upgrading the container when its full of roots and using liquid fertiliser to give the plant nutrients. If it stays yo long in water the philodendron will grow roots more suited to water rather then soil do it will be a bit trickier to then transfer into soil. I dont think it will make a difference whether it's small or larger cuttings as long as there is enough oxygen in tge water and enough nutrients to support the plant. Thanks for watching and your support! Happy Philodendron Gardening ❤️

    I don't get how they can grow in water but I can over water mine that lives in a soil in a hanging planter 🤔

  • @PlantNationMinh
    @PlantNationMinhАй бұрын

    Hi Mojo, Fantastic question. Growing Philodendron in water is different to growing them in soil. When growing in water the roots become water roots and adapted to water. In soil if the soil is soggy for too long or too often the oxygen in the soil will be depleted and the plant will suffocate as the plants have roots that are adapted to soil with air pockets. Also soggy soil can increase the bacteria and fungus levels in the soil as they like those conditions. This can cause root rot which can kill the plant. Thanks for watching and asking the question. Happy Philodendron Gardening ❤

    Hello, I’m trying to save my begonia maculata. I saved it from a Walmart last fall. I did a good job of getting the leaves to grow and got it back to good health, it even did well during the winter. Then this spring it began dropping its leaves. There are no pests I make sure not to over or under water, I do fertilize it but maybe I’m not using the right kind. Eventually I thought maybe it needed to be repotted, as it was still in its greenhouse container. I put it in a terracotta pot, fertilized it and watered throughly. It’s still dropping leaves😢 and new leaves at that. They grow out a good ways then the tips turn brown, sometimes the stem blackens, then they crumple and fall off.

  • @PlantNationMinh
    @PlantNationMinhАй бұрын

    Hi Ena, Thanks for watching and sharing your Begonia Rescue journey. You have done alot of things that l would do as well. Only thing l could think of is to help with boost of warmth and humidity by placing a clear plastic sleeve/bag around it bur make sure there is a large enough gap for airflow flow to occur and plant it in an area with extra morning sunlight/ bright indirect sunlight and no direct afternoon sunlight. Hope that helps and keep me updated on the progress. Happy Begonia Maculata Gardening ❤️

  • @PlantNationMinh
    @PlantNationMinhАй бұрын

    Hi Lauran, It might be just being temperamental because of the environmental changes. Ficus Lyrata takes time to adapt to new household conditions and will drop leaves, luckily it's the older bottom leaves and not the new leaves at the top. Generally it's better to leave the plant in its pot for 4-6 weeks repotting as repotting the plant to give m9re time to adjust. I would leave the leaves alone as the plant be withdrawing nutrients from the leaves and using it in other areas of the plant. The leaves will drop off on its own accord when the plant has no use for it. If the plant is still adjusting to the new household condition then yes there is still possibility more leaves can turn yellow. If this occurs l would move the Ficus Lyrata to position where it can receive the maximum amount of sunlight possible as this us a sunloving plant. Hope that helps you and congrats on your New Beauty! Happy Ficus Lyrata Gardening ❤️
