I try to stay in keys that best fit my voice. Or if I am playing with someone, I try to make it easy for them (violin, flute, acordian, piano). My profession was chemical and energy engineering. Singing and playing guitar was a side. But I've played for 50+ years, and have few songs I wrote. Thanks for helping get organized some of what I do.

It's true, it makes no sense to play outside the best keys for an instrument if you don't have to, and European composers wrote for the best keys typically. The idea of playing/arranging in 12 keys is really only practical on keyboard. And it's not even possible to get a good sound in many keys on old-system woodwinds. Then as soon as you start arranging for singing, the best range and practical high notes/low notes will fall into a small selection of keys. If your reliable chest high note as a female is A4, it'll end up a chord tone attached to certain keys. Your old friend A minor won't be going anywhere.

My, this is a beautiful and simple rendition. Not to take away from your singing and playing, both of which were superb, but this performance is exactly what this songs needs. No more, no less. Humble and unadorned and so very honest. I love it.

The WA87 has a much better mid and low tone yet the ear trumpet has a lighter tone it all depends on the music that you're playing, if it's with a band I would choose the WA 87 but if I was playing classical nylon string guitar it would be the ear trumpet.

Excellent. Most times people who have lived thru some rough times and struggles write the greatest stuff. Some of us, though not proudly lived many years that way. Sadly Townes always battled demons. Sometimes its a substance, alcohol, your own mind. Some of us get that itch to take off, hit the rd, play the smokey bars and juke joints, drink, chase women and the like. But your not that way anymore. You changed for the better, made it out alive, literally. So alot of songs from certain writers, really hit home. Promises and hearts broken, scars you cant see. But can still write you a good tune in 5 minutes and pick it. Some would snubb their nose at you but record that song in a heartbeat. Sadly many who are gone to soon dealt with that, not so pretty side of life. I sound jaded I suppose lol. Thank you Lindsay again for doing another old tune justice.....

Nothing like a Townes song played by a talanted and pretty lady. :) Townes would often head north in the summer...Colorado/Montana and back to Texas before winter set in. As Steve Earle wrote in his tribute to Townes" You always said the highway was your home, we both no that ain't true. It's just the only place a man can go ,when he don't know, where he's traveling to."
