Love them both. Kate Royal possibly has the most beautiful natural voice I’ve ever heard. ❤

The cars and clothes of 1997 are now looking like a very long time ago whereas Handel sounds as fresh as ever

What a shame that this fine performance is flawed fatally by being sung in German; whatever possessed them to ditch the original French (it is JC Bach’s only French-language opera) and replace it with a clumsy foreign translation that destroys the euphony of the work totally. PS. I dislike any opera in any language other than the original; I once heard Das Rheingold in Italian and it was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.

Germans = Genius at music..It took a German born to compose these beautiful pieces in Britain...Thanks to Handel and. his genius for this piece...while the Brit rascals were busy invading people who posed no danger to them, the German genius composed beautiful songs..

I find this beautiful piece by Handel so much in need of being listened to in our world of populism and disrespect for the Truth.

I agree wholeheartedly, this version is excellent but the interpretation by Amanda Forsythe and Thomas Cooley accompanied by the magisterial performances of baroque oboist Marc Schachman and baroque bassoonist Anna Marsh and the rest of the ensemble take their version subtly to a whole new level.Once you've heard it you can't stop going back to it ! kzread.info/dash/bejne/gop31qWxnq3fe7w.html As @alistairmacdonald240 intelligently and succinctly commented "Elegance personified. Superb woodwind playing and perfect instrumental colour, which brings out all the subtleties of this most English of Handel movements. Perfect understated lyrical singing too. Above all a wonderful demonstration of an ensemble bringing beautiful music alive by listening and reacting to every nuance of the performance of every member of the group. Bravo and let’s have more! "The plangent and wistful melancholy of the music rooted, as it is, in a simple Arcadian vision makes it quintessentially English in style composed by a native German!"

Musical people tend to dismiss Handel as a poor shadow of JS Bach. Music demonstrated here shows a beauteous melodic line supported by simpler harmonic structure so as not to get in the way of the beauty of the duet. One is not greater than the other. Each has a genius to create rapturous beauty in different ways..
