I adopted one of the dog-aggressive male dogs from a small shelter near the Michael Vick property and saw Gracie several times at dog rescue events in Richmond (she was a breeding female at the dogfighting ring on his property in VA). That dog sleeps with me an has never shown any aggression toward me or any human in over 10 years, but he has needed rehab NOT to get in a fight with another dog. I am a strong advocate for dog handlers to take obedience classes and NOT make excuses. It is a cheap and lifetime skill you can use with any dog you meet!

HE is a professional and an owner that objects can go elsewhere. The owner of a dog does NOT own the trainer or know more than he does...
You own the dog ands not the kids or other adults. Your dog is NOT theirs! The law says so, so in a neutral way tell the adults and kids BEFORE that they are to leave to dog alone. And enforce it!
Dogs are not humans. Ignorance is not a reason to NOT use crates...

This is what I came here for my dog obsessively sniffing everything. She will stop every 5 steps and will sniff that spot as long as I will let her. She will completely stop and I have to pull on her as card as I can to even get her to pay attention. And I’m basically pulling her the entire walk so we’re not stoping sniffing every step. It is completely obsessive we walk past these same spots 9 times a day. She even knows where home is if no one was around. She does this in her own home to the point where it drives everyone nuts and tells her to stop.

My pitbull tried to steal from some people passing by with a dish of cooked food. I got how it happems: see the bag, smell the bag, expand neck to be closer to bag, eyebrows lifted high and wrinkles on his forehead like a kid with his eyes wide open aaand; wayting for the bag to be closest to us so he can try to jump on the human carrying it and scare him(bully him) into throwing the bag with food... I am a shocked mother. But I started watching him and countering him whem he is about to attack! He gets a look of shame on his face and I'm coming back home, saying to his father and being proud of myself! Turns out that wasn't the face of shame!- that was his "oh damn it! I couldn't do it!" Face! So yea- we know close to nothing about how they think if we aren't a trainer.
Any handler who learned how to use either type collar knows the answer is NO! Listen to a pro and stop listening to ignorant pals or relatives...
ANY problem a person can file a suit about means YOU have to have a defense in court. that means the smart move is to follow the law (leash your dog) and do NOT let strangers handle your dog or you! Tell them not to! They'll get over hurt feelings faster than you will get over a LAWSUIT and fine .
Dogs are a legal possession and NOT a leader of anything. You OWN a dog so take training class and stop lying and bluffing. Your dog pays the price.

You are a good man and even animals can respond to that.
A dog will die, so accept it. Do NOT feel sorry for yourself. You can get another dog to own and train and care for. Be realistic...
'should I crate my dog or not' assumes an answer that the dog will be unhappy confined to a crate. But a dog is a lower animal to be conditioned and learning to eat, sleep, play with a toy, etc. in a crate is enjoyable for a dog if you learn how to train. But most owner do NOT learn to train and make excuses why not...
It's always a fear of making a puppy unhappy (which it doesn't), meanwhile the owner is overwhelmed and frustrated.
@@premierpackdogtraining2531 A dog is a 'lower animal' to be taken care of by an owner and a pro dog trainer is hired by an owner. The puppy unhappiness is NOT part of the picture... the owner is !

I have seen the #1 Simple Thing for 25 years that NO ONE does! It is get into and complete at least 1 basic obedience class. They always have excuses or lies and VERY few actually enroll and take and do homework in a 6-week PetCo or PetSmart group class... And shelters all across America are full and THAT is why! Can you see why?
So why does he allow his own dog to paw his arm and NOT correct it? Explain it clearly for all viewers to understand just WHY...
I didn't correct that behavior at that time because I didn't mind it. My dogs are very well behaved so I don't have to worry about a little pawing. If my dogs gave me pushback in any way I would be addressing that.
Having been through 3 levels of training in PetCo or PetSmart and private group classes and taking 3 of my own dogs through CGC certification, I know about owners and their dogs. What I saw repeatedly was that trainers are nearly ALWAYS women and dog handlers in the class were nearly ALWAYS women. And seeing owners with their dogs in public tells me that nearly No owner knows basics of dog handling and the dog is NOT handled at all. It is talked to or yelled at by an owner and the dog is still NOT trained. Telling lies and making excuses is what nearly ALL owners do and very few ever took all of one entire basic class (typically 6 weeks with homework during the week and 1 or 2 basic things to teach the dog as shown in class : 'heel', crate' here' etc. ).. Nearly no owner even knows what the term 'lower animal' means and that dogs and housecats are the 2 domesticated animals that humans keep ....With under 100 subscribers, that tells me that very few real training dog owners are finding and subscribing to his posts. This trainer is one of the few best I have found over time. Like him or not, Jeff Gellman is one person who happens to deal with very troubled dogs. He is very valuable to learn from.

I talked to a neighbor young woman with a young male black GSD that protected her and she was proud of it. He was her 'foster' dog and I told her to look into guarding by a GSD from a pro dog handler...
Yes, an untrained dog exhibiting protective behavior can be a danger to an innocent person.
A 'reactive dog' looking at another dogs is NOT to be allowed because for certain dogs it is the lead to a real fight. I have been through it with a male APBT that very likely is a 'game type' one from near the Michael Vick compound. I am in central VA and have seen the female 'breeding dog' for the dog fighters (named Gracie) locally after the arrests and rehoming of the dogs. So it is entirely possible that my 'game type' APBT was 'thrown' from Gracie and genetics is a large part of why my dog remains so reactive to other dogs (not people).
Access to all things goes through the owner... food, trees, smells, bedding are all controlled by you as an owner of a dog...
It makes such a difference!

'bad' behavior is dog behavior YOU do not want. A dog does what it naturally does unless you condition it. So take a basic training class and ASK what 'lower animal' means. Most folks never even hear the term in high school nowadays, but I did !
