I like the way it is a lot. the whole show really is a will they/ wont they between ted and robin so it didn't make much sense to introduce his wife so late in the shows running and have that be the "happily ever after". The way they were able to hit us with a "And this is how I met your aunt robin" so early meant that the current ending was a somewhat unexpected bittersweet twist. There was always a sense of hopelessness about teds character and even though it's sort of dark, the fact that he was a widower does sort of align with the shows theme. I think the one thing they did get very wrong is the robin-barney situation which felt either really forced or rushed or both. If Ted could go back, he wouldn't spend more time with Robin. He would spend all of that time with Tracy, the true love of his life.

I love how people still care about this show. I just finished my 7th rewatch a week ago. And this is such a good point, no matter how much the writers tried to force the Ted and Robin narrative, Tracy is the love of his life and he told them that story to show how much he had to get through and how he became the person he is to finally end up with her to get his happy ending of his long romantic journey. I didnt mind that Tracy died (as much as I loved her), it made it all sadder, like hey, hes trying to honor the experience of finding her and he ended up in his stories for her to live on through him and through his children. It wasnt a story of how he was in love with Robin the entire time, it was the story of what he had to do to get to his happy ending, what obstacles he had along the way, who he had to let go and ultimately what amazing friends he made. And how the journey was worth the wait and how the only thing he hates is that he couldnt spent eternity with her. (Sorry, got carried away.)

Ted always was looking for someone with future possibility nad barney was only looking for love how the hell writers didn't give the one thing he wanted more than getting his actual family together.. man he never got when he truly wished for something.. that last episode made me realize love is far from magic..

It’s okay, in my mind she didn’t really die and they grew old together and died notebook style. The show destroyed itself with its finale so it’s the job of true fans to revive it with how it should have ending, the only way it should have ended and that’s all there is to it. 🥰🥳
