Quite an interesting situation, clearly from a thematic point of view nulla/Matthew is alex's imaginary friend created when he moved and as he makes a new friend slowly fades. Things he does disappears when not in sight (mostly) and at times he trys encouraging alex to do things. And its a kinda touching story. From a logical point of view its a show edited for us on 2 channels, if any of this were real then we the viewers wouldnt see nulla or anything he did because it would be inside Alex's head, wed see a weird boy talking to himself but he thinks he's talking to someone. Ah the wonders of youtube lol

I think Matthew did not die. As someone who has moved away from my childhood home, once you move away from your friends, they almost feel like they're starting to fade away. Less speaking and appearances, just like what happened in the video. Nulla (Matthew) stopped speaking somewhere between episode 9

the videos that Alex posted are great they symbolize grief and loss I'm going to branch out a theory on what happened the events before the video Alex had some friends from quite a while ago with whom he played Minecraft but they got into an argument that caused them to drift apart soon after that I'm guessing an accident happened to his friend resulting in his death and that traumatized Alex (that why he refused to play on the old Minecraft server) as he had wished to at least play with his friend one last time or even mend his friendship and soon after that his family moved far away moving on many years have passed and we arrived at the present place where the video happened and we see Nulla now we all know this 'friend' isn't real but what is he? well Nulla represents Alex's grief, loneliness, and more importantly his friend It is a figment of imagination that was made from Alex's trauma from past events basically his refusing to accept the past why none of the items were picked up and why nothing he did actually happened as the videos go on and on it became more and more obvious the protagonist was trapped in a dreamlike state drifting between reality and his own imagination hinting at the words "I can't wake up" moving further on we are introduced to Donny a friend Alex has found to play Minecraft with as he plays more and more with his new friend we see Nulla starting to fade away which means Alex is slowly coming to terms with what had happened and is slowly moving on and Bang he got killed by a creeper in which puts him in a dream-like state that's where Alex confronts Nulla at this point his past he lets out his grievances all the way until he respawns greeting Donny with an "i woke up" literally and figuratively In the last episode, all the times we have seen Alex standing still is him thinking of his past and the trauma he faced but this time it's him coming to terms with the fact and being willing to accept the events and move on That is why he goes underground and faced Nulla (because he's dead) one last time and leaving him a final goodbye before throwing his past (items from before Donny joined) and never looking back and as he goes up(burying the past) he can see the items he threw to Nulla reappearing implying he finally got out of the dreamlike state and ready to start a new beginning with a new friend also, I would like to think Nulla staring at him from above the trees is like his friends looking out for him above the heavens sorry if this is long and I understand if no one wants to read it but this played out like a movie and Alex has a great storytelling using scenery and mood
