At the end of 2014 my wife Snuggles & I decided to quit our jobs, sell 95% of the things we own, & leave our home town for good in search of adventure, culture, & the true meaning of happiness. We bought a van, traveled all over the country & hiked the entire Appalachian Trail (2189.2 miles). We are still seeking adventure in new places, meeting new people, trying new food & drink, & discovering all that we can.
This Channel has developed into a main hub for aspiring hikers & current hikers to gain info on a wide variety of Trail Topics. With a series of Trip Videos, Q&A, Tip Videos, & Gear Reviews, I aim to get you out on the trail and hiking more!

Regrets? what will you do in the next iteration of yourself.
I was wondering a couple of years ago why you didnt do the jump to mountanniering, and now here you are, NICE.
So you are getting a little older and have more responsibilities. Actually makes you more relatable. Get the sponsors you need to survive, just don’t sell your soul. Personally, I would like to see more content aimed at your average weekend hiker/backpacker. Most of us are not thru hikers. Bottom line, it is great to have you back, really enjoy your channel.
This is his best video to date. I e had the same co structure criticisms of his homes for years and have taken criticism for it from the same people that put peer pressure on him to hike the way he did. He has clearly gotten more wisdom upon reflection of his hikes. The ultralight way is 100% the wrong way for 90% of hikers.
I'd pay a lot for a 2.6 oz tent.
Honest assessment, great job.
I mean you people are all adapted to the cost of things made in China. Well made products are much more expensive when not made my slaves and child labor. People hating on the tent because they're coping with their small wallets 😂
It’s 2000.00 because there are ignorant people that pay to much for things all the time… and that’s why most people stay broke…..
Great 👍🏻 Greetings from the woods of Sweden 👋🇸🇪😃
You inspired me, hiking saved my life. The many adventures I had touched my soul. I just wanted to say thank you and happy trails. #mentor

ive been using the ursack, but this weekend a raccoon got into it and did a good number on it. Bear proof yes, raccoon, not so much. I guess they have raccoon and small rodent-proof ones now, something I think that was not offered when first bought it
That makes sense, save weight where you can so you can add some comfort items. Smart!
I can tell you right now this design is garbage. This guy must getting paid to do this review. Probably it’s made in Europe and that’s why it’s so expensive. It will be claustrophobic inside and only has one entrance. Useless.
I don't carry one now that I have my iPhone 15. Happy to break free from that overpriced service.
$2000 vs $0.99 lighter? Who will win?😂
I use the Hario Mugen. Lighter then the aero press while able to produce some killer tasting cups. Breaks down into 2 pieces when I'm done
Sorry I know this is an older video. Do you recall what your total pack weight was with this setup?
Couldn’t agree more with Peak 2. Great choice. I then pack large Snickers as my pick me up on the move.
I am assuming that you are eating the entirety of the two person meal packet. Is that correct?
Having watched you on and off for years, so cool to see the maturing and progression of different thought processes. Loved this video!
You get a Darwin award.
Amazing! Drop the details on that tripod haha. I've been searching for something light and minimal, but still with some height like that!
Gearlist?
Was considering to get one, but with IOS 18 now you can use same features, and SOS /satellite communication , I feel it is better to stick with my iPhone, however the Garmin Mini is 100 times durable and the charge last for days compared to a phone. Thank you for the video 😊
It seems like in the US you also need a good insurance plan to cover the cost of being rescued.
Jogo coffee straw is hands down my favorite for trail coffee or even at home when i only need 1 cup or loose leaf tea.
I was taught to be self sufficient on the trail. There was no cell phones or spa devices.
I made the altra to topo switch a year ago on my own, nice to see validation 6 months later !
Hey Darwin. Great comments! Thank you. Love you too.
Z packs should be ashamed of the prices they charge. The Patagonia of yuppie tents.
So the drop in durability is directly related to all of the current recycling is manufacturing nonsense. This is the price you pay for going “green”, lower quality and less durability.
Get a hammock/tent combo?
I just finished a 50 mile section hike of the at. All i took for food was 3 lbs of homemade ground beef jerky. It was amazing.
Haven’t watched your videos in quite some time. This was a really good one to come back to! The title piqued my interest and I love this self reflection
My wife will only let me hike solo with one of these, so that’s that.
Whatever you drink here, it shouldn't be allowed to be called coffee =P not even the the AP-made. Valid content though.
I really like the hour by hour weather update you can get with it. It’s been pretty accurate too!😄
It's insurance. You don't need it until you need it, but when you do, you're damn glad you have it. They're still better than a phone at this point, and most are more durable, too.
Its one of those thing you hope to never use, but nice if you need it.
Makes sense. Next time I go on a canoe trip I'm not taking a life preserver because I've never needed one in the past. And on my drive to the river I'm going to take the tire jack out of my car. Total waste of space and about as heavy as an SOS device. "Bears are safe. You just have to love them and act like one." R.I.P. Timothy Treadwell.
hey man, I really like this, it's different to what a lot of other people do and it's clearly a result of you doing this day in day out. When it starts raining relatively heavily Im assuming you just yeet your phone into the pocket of your raincoat or something, but what do you do with the camera though? Does the bag protect it enough if you put it inside there?
🤡 🌎😂
Darwin, hi there. ive been hiking sinc the 70's. We only had paper maps or more than i should have perhaps i just aimed and went !?! I get both sides. and i THINK in ur cause its ALSO ,, as we get older realize the ease of our mortality. I know IN PART its what made me THNK of getting one. But i'm retired and it is another nible out of my resources. the " plan " that whole thing AND i cant think of a better place to die . thats not just talk ... my med kit would a dozen " thru hiker " kits 😅. yes ive been hurt but so was those that went b 4 us for 100's of years. i guess ya do what needs doing. But its so rare ..... u been going for wee bit of the clock and cuz you used ur head ya been alright. i agree the greater the risk the greater the chances. thats just the matter of fact. The more u drive the greater the chance of , God willing, scrape a fender only !!!!. again i THINK ur using ur head if ya YA THINK u will need it then listening to the voice in ur head is just smart. NONE knows about 2moro !!! let alone 1 hour from now. a guy and his girl was killed in a head on wrong way drive on the way back from vegas justa few days ago. a co worker of my wifes. Good people a good worker all that stuff..... gone. we dont know our time but God gave us a brain 2 useto better our odds !!.. i think ur on the right path personally. may not b 4 me..... now. But glad u r !! i wish u the very best and my the wind b at ur back amigo !!!
I’ve been hiking on big stuff on very technical terrain for a long time. I go away from the crowd on this one. My favorite shoes are very snug all over the shoe, very stiff, and a highly contoured footbed. I think the current shoe knowledge out there is basically a groupthink paradigm. If I wear zero drop shoes with a lack of stiffness, I am working way harder to maintain friction on small footholds. I wore Altras on the north ridge of Mt Neva last year, and I did it fine, but it was clearly an improper choice. Toeing I’m on steep terrain doesn’t work as well, and when your foot shifts inside the shoe you peel off the foothold. Most people looking for a hiking shoe aren’t dealing with what I and my friends are out here, but if you are dealing with super technical terrain, I would encourage you to consider very stiff shoes. It seems like the shoe world is going away from these. Some of my favorite shoes have essentially been low cut boots. I loved the Salewa Mountain Trainer, super high weight and uncomfortable footbed and all. That shoe crushed on big all day scrambles. Tomorrow I will wear Dynafit Transalpers on a big 4th class scramble in the Indian Peaks Wilderness.
The "runner" seems kinda flimsy for securing the tent in high winds.
Wait... it wasn't clear... It does or doesn't have mesh at the openings. Please be more clear. 😁
I carry one for my wife's piece of mind ... I utilize the three "preset" messages to message her throughout the day so she knows everthing is Ok ...
Darwin, this was helpful as I am in the planning stage for my first hike besides just a day hike. So, many thanks!🙏
I have pockets in my wool leggings that i leave my battery and filter in. Then i leave my phone in my fleece chest pocket
