    Wondering why blend bamboo with wool? Especially since it pills?

    Bamboo is cool to wear in warm weather and very soft which would make it less itchy than wool for babies or other sensitive people. It’s also inexpensive but naturally derived. Adding wool retains some benefits of knitting with wool like elasticity.

    Just for perhaps a different opinion, i dont feel the kfo pure silk is rough for me. I almost always use kfo because of the quality. I know it is durable and ethical and the colours are so fine. I do live in denmark so maybe for me its quite cheap compared to other yarns. Also i like to support small independent businesses 😊 i also really like hjertegarn, they have a new life wool that is recycled and soft. I knit the same jumper one with kfo which came out super light and soft (heavy merino+silk mohair) and hjertegarn new life with Mayflower silk mohair, this one is denser and a little heavier but also nice in a different way.

    I'm in the UK and locally, our LYS are few, far between and very small so many of us use Wool Warehouse for our supplies. It's good to see you review a King Cole yarn as the brand is very popular in the UK. Another popular brand is Stylecraft, which does a Naturals Bamboo and Cotton. This yarn tends to be less splitty, so easier to knit or crochet but is slightly thinner at 250m for 100g.

    I want to knit a sweater with this yarn... and I want to pair it up with Drops Kid Silk. Have you personally worked with this pair before? If so, how was it? So many people talk about how Alpaca stretches. I figured if I pair it with Drops Kid Silk, it should be okay, right?

  • @UntwistedThreads

    We think it depends on what you're looking for! This yarn is most similar to Drops Cotton Merino in how it looks. Sandnes Garn Duo has more of a wooly look and a more even dye. But this one is definitely softer!

    I don’t know if most people realize that when they are buying a super wash wool, they are buying something coated with a polymer (read plastic). I wonder if that should not also be a consideration?

  • @UntwistedThreads
    @UntwistedThreads11 күн бұрын

    Yes, the superwash treatment process coats the wool in a very fine layer of polymer plastic resin and chlorine, to help protect the wool from higher temperatures and felting. We believe it is absolutely a personal preference to consider when purchasing a yarn and what project you will be using it for :)

    I just ordered Knitting for Olive Cotton Merino and was excited to see your comparison and the softness factor. One thing I'd love to see as a newbie knitter is a comparison of how the various yarns wear over time (stretching, pilling, etc.). I'm sure it's a subjective thing for everyone depending on use but I only seem to catch bits of information in videos on various youtube channels. As a new knitter trying out different yarns it's a bit intimadating because it's a lot of work to have the fabric pill pretty quickly.

  • @TSUNAMI-MAMI

    We can't wait to hear what you think of it! And we would really love to be able to show a longer time frame of how each yarn wears and pills, unfortunately time is just not on our side to be able to knit more than a swatch for each yarn that we review. Maintenance of garments will become your friend when it comes to washing and removing pills. We shared a video not too long ago about this:)

    My experience: Drops Merino does not keep its shape when knit. It "grows". Hats get to big after a few uses, cardigans are to easily pullet out of size or shape. It needs reblocking and steaming to often. But it is cheap...

    I agree that Truboo is a pretty yarn and if knit carefully not too splitty, however if made into a garment it will stretch out a lot - a few youtubers who have used it say the same. As in stretch out to be unwearable and that is my experience. I wonder if knitting this at quite a tight gauge (more like fingering gauge) would mitigate some of this stretch. I like the yarn enough that I might do some experiments. I think an extra category you could maybe add would be something like durability or wearability over time, although that may be hard to actually do in your review timeframe. Love your videos, thanks so much.

  • @UntwistedThreads
    @UntwistedThreads13 күн бұрын

    Happy to hear you enjoy them! Yes, we believe a tighter gauge could help. Also, similar to alpaca, when you hold a yarn double with another yarn, that can help prevent a yarn from stretching out as well. :)

    Am knitting with KFO cotton/merino for first time, getting exactly the gauge stated! Very soft and delicate, considering it a light fingering. hello! love your reviews, and your voice is so calming!! i was wondering if you could review hobbii's mohair delight if you have some time. it's a 50/50 mohair and acrylic blend. i know you don't normally review synthetic yarns, but this one really intrigues me. it's quite cheap for mohair even with the added acrylic, and i want to know if it's worth it to knit up a full garment. my biggest concern is itchiness and pilling because this might be a pretty low quality mohair. thank you so much!!!

    Truboo has become one of my favorite yarns. It took a while to get used the splittiness. By keeping the twist tight, it was a lot easier to use (and made for a nicer looking fabric). I have 2 tops made out of it that are perfect for hot & humid climates.

    I've only tried Knitting For Olive Merino, Cotton Merino, and the Soft silk mohair, and they are all 5/5 yarns for me. I've never tried the cashmere or heavy merino, and I've definitely heard a lot of ppl complain about the heavy merino. People also complain about the knitting experience with the Pure silk, but I've heard that most people end up loving the finished garment, so it ends up being worth it. I recently bought some Pure silk, but I haven't tried knitting with it yet.

    I'm trying to find the right yarn for a large (60" x 84") heavily cabled and textured pattern. It's for my adult son and it will go to the dry cleaner, he won't be washing it. First thought of all cotton but I'm afraid it won't hold its shape. Same with 100% merino? I'm also concerned about pilling. I would have loved Drops Merino Cotton but I need a worsted weight with a gauge of 21/28. I saw the De Rerun Nature Robinson but that is going to cost be close to $250. A bit pricey. Can you recommend a yarn to use?

  • @UntwistedThreads
    @UntwistedThreads20 күн бұрын

    My first go to if you're wanting to use a different yarn, is to look similar yarn substitutions for the yarn recommended in the pattern. I try to stray away from using a yarn with a different fiber content than the designer and pattern recommends as you mentioned, some fibers do better than others with holding their shape. Depending on his softness tolerance , my go to hearty worsted weight yarn that I like to use (even with sensitive skin) is Cascade Yarns 220 as it is very widely available and has a lot of color options. I was also blown away with Valley Yarns Northampton, which is a little bit softer than the 220. We hope that helps!:)
