Inarguably, Gervase Bushe provided a masterclass for OD practitioners in under 25 minutes.

This actually helps understand why people do all the opposite of what they commit to. I, included.

My only issue is that all of his examples/stories were of self-medicating or taking a medication/pharmaceutical drug or resisting. And my research studies have shown that most if not all pharmaceutical drugs do harm in the long run.

Just replace the medication/pharmaceutical drug with anything and it all applies. Listen for insights and not agreement.

Excellent, thank you for the introduction. I especially appreciate how you connect this to organizations. Follow up question from eight years ago now... Is there deeper material that you would suggest that would help fill in the applied details?

Silos of Excellence - please consider rephrasing this word. You can never achieve excellence in silos, especially when you view organizations inside-out as highly interconnected and 'organic'.

Interestingly, both of the illustrations involve what we put into our mouths. And our identities tend to be built partly on a foundation of putting things into our mouths. So, to change what we put into our mouths necessarily involves a change in who we are. It's pre-rational but it's a strong factor. Lots of behavior is tied to our identities, so when new behavior is being asked of us, we may be unable to make the change because we will lose track of who we are and feel disoriented, lost or worse. Talking about such things is no guarantee that we will learn about ourselves. Many people feel very threatened by self-reflection. And learning such things about ourselves is no guarantee that we will be able to move past it and change. Many, many people are happy to keep doing what their doing and sicken and die because their identity will still be intact. Ceasing to be who they are is a much more uncomfortable thot than simply dying. I've seen this all my life.

Immunity to Change is absolutely brilliant work.... a rare coaching model that deals with the all too frequent business situation of a well-intentioned, capable employee who knows what s/he needs to do but doesn't do it. This coaching model focuses on mindset the root cause of performance.
