  It's always kind of sad to see a place that's so full of memories just abandoned like this but it's also really sad that they leave so much cool stuff to just rot away and eventually be trashed. Those tapes and posters and a lot of that stuff some people would love to have but I'm sure it all just ended up in the trash

  I have been thinking about community-based baseball teams for a while now. Oakland, because of the situation with the ownership, might be a perfect place to take over complete public ownership of a professional sports team. The trick here though is the quality of the baseball on the field. This means having enough quality players to have a team that has a chance to win. But it also means having players that are willing to be there for years at a time. No one can really get behind a completely transient game. Even in college, you know you're going to get two or three or even 4 years out of a player. If you could truly get the community in Oakland to believe in baseball as something for young people to participate in, you could theoretically grow your own players. I think the thing you guys are looking for is possible but it isn't something that can be packaged in a year's time. What you guys are looking for is something like a homegrown garden that you can come and enjoy for years to come. Then it would really be Oakland baseball.
