Did mike patton make a band Mr Bunghole ? (rofl) Mr Bungle is entertaining, but Mike's ideas are grounded in rock-lore ... in a VU/Sonic Youth/ Oghr cEvin sense . Consider the Throbbing Gristle family as a whole, and the meanderings of their members ( TG, PTV, C93, Coil, Coum, C&C) Death Grips and Divine Styler ("Spiral walls containing Autumns of Light") deserve a mention. The live experience of Eugenics Council was similar to Hanatarash, as mace being sprayed over my head during song two was an immersive art-piece experience. Diamanda Galas - Litanies of Satan (It's a 2 song EP) - JPJ took interest this wild child but it had little impact on her trajectory. I agree that anything from Stapleton (NWW) or Zorn could be used. Claypool is a chameleon, him playing those 25 King Crimson albums in 25 days was intriguing ( look up his support musician Mike Dillon , that will connect to the rabbit-hole of Dallas music) Some unexpected mentions might be Xiu Xiu or New Fumes, interesting and still pushing boundaries, but not absurdist. Overall good job on the video Wyatt, but you leaned heavy into the older "expected" classic mentions.

i fucking love extortion they're from my general area and that dude was kind of lying, for people in USA definitely more of a once in a lifetime thing, but recently they've been doing heaps of shows around in more underground venues here, and i managed to see them twice i think, based band tho dude I clicked the video because first of all, I love your videos n i watch all of them, but second i saw a bunch of insta videos from extortion abt playing at maryland deathfest and i had to know whether or not you saw them

This was my first MDF and I had the most amazing time. Agalloch was also the star of the show for me, but there were sooo many good sets. I counted and was able to catch 37 of them! Definitely going to try to return next year.

Also just to clarify, Luke mixed, mastered and produced almost all of the albums. Specifically the last two. Dissimulate is a fan favourite because it's their most brutal album, and it was also one of their only albums to feature human drumming.

Look at Lucas Abella (Justice Yeldam and the Magic Ribbon Device)... Other names he's gone by (I think Kombi, being the first moniker). Not only his music - the noise equivelent of Coltrane), but his level of violent expermimentaion is beyond the pale. He is often hospitalised as a consequence of his choice of intrumentation being panes of glass with a contact mic and his mouth/body getting up close and personal to make the sounds.
@mausperson58542 күн бұрын
Oddly enough, I've been into extreme metal since the early eighties but it took 'noise' and power electronics to make me appreciate second wave BM. If you want to dig in to some genre benders don't sleep on Conlon Nancarow. You might think it's too easy on the ear to put in the noise history, but it's hard to find anyone that championed irrational time signatures. I know harsh noise is all about throwing out explicable rhythm all together but if you think about it that makes Nancarow important in the early stages of the noise aesthetic. Nurse With Wound has to be mentioned. Should do a whole video on Stapleton and Co.

Just as I had a growing suspicion that what was my first MDF was also going to be my last due to entertainment visa fees for international touring bands astronomically rising (from $400 to $1600) they already announce an MDF 2025 which is shocking but im stoked and definitely making that 5 hour trip from my state again. I still think it's going to be much harder booking this one tho or at least we might see less non American acts outside the main stages because that major fee increase is going to be crippling to a great portion of underground bands.
