A.D. History Podcast

A.D. History Podcast

The A.D. History Podcast explores the last 2000 years of world history in an innovative new way. Join hosts Paul K. DiCostanzo and Patrick Foote as they examine the past two millennia, starting in 1 AD, and progressing forward 10 years every episode until they reach the modern day.

Within each ten-year installment, Paul and Patrick aim to share incredibly important, but often overlooked fascinating historic events and figures from around the world in prospective fashion; attempting to see history through the eyes and in the world of those who lived it. By identifying these sometimes lesser known - but in no way less significant aspects of history - the A.D. History Podcast endeavors to weave these disparate threads into a fuller, richer tapestry of true world history from 1AD to HD.

Patrick Foote is the creator and presenter for the KZread channel Name Explain. Paul K. DiCostanzo is the Managing Editor for TGNR (tgnreview.com), and emerging historian of the Second World War.

Trinity is a Farsi word " سه گانگی - se-ghanegy " which means "[concept of] three [owners]". Father is the builder and the original owner of the house [there was no divorce and the mothers were automatically co owners with fathers), Sons will inherit the property to protect the mother and other siblings when the father is too old or is dead. Daughters were getting married and co-owned their husband's property. The Holy is " خالی - khali '' which means when the property is vacant and the word Spirit is " از بین رفت - az-bain-raft " which means building that is in ruins or was destroyed, in this state the Church will take ownership of the property and use it for single women, children and elders with no support. In the Concept of Trinity, God is the landlord. The Trinity was the base of the entire Christian and Western Civilization. The Council of Nicaea formalized Trinity as the official rule of the land and Constantin centralized and unified registering the properties (issuing deeds) and recording their owners' names, to that date registering and recording was done by local real estate agents and escrow companies of the time dominated by jews who were abusing and trafficking and abusing women and children who needed food and home. Virgin Mary means that Mary the mother of Jesus was a Virgin when married to Joseph, her virginity entitled her and Joseph to the ownership of the land and ability to pass the home to their son Jesus.

Very interesting video, thank you so much! I love discussions of the psychology of people who were so important in history. Without Caligula, there is no Claudius, no Nero, and possibly the fate of the Julio-claudian dynasty would have been very different if Caligula was not there to kill important figures within it. Well done!

if you want history...do not read the bible. if you want theology, fairy tales, propaganda and contradictions...read it. but these "books" of competing ideas were brought together and edits to pacify many different ideas. some see the obvious contradictions. but they are not if you see they are competing ideas. also if you are a fundamentalist and think every word is true and it is literal history.. then you are lost already. the fictional characters created to teach a moral. if you think you have to believe a human lived inside a fish for 3 days as it swam 100 miles into the desert somehow... you have been brainwashed and programmed at a childlike sunday school level. you will never understand reality. be happy in your ignorant bliss and think you are special and will live forever. if you go learn history.... confirm-able non fanciful history... make a timeline and learn about all the cultures from before bible times. escape the fiction and learn the history. the politics. this podcast is ok for beginners.

Jesus come from house of David but Jews line thru father not mother. A little odd? Seems Paul wrote first and all other gospels written as answers to life/death/ministry of Jesus. Q source is true but lots more sources lost cause library Alexandria destroyed and lots other books by Christian riots after Constantine (look that up. Very interesting why). Dead Sea scrolls seems to be hidden after Jerusalem destruction and before Masada destruction. None of them new T. Paul writes after Masada. 20-30 or more yrs. Why these booksnot those ,look to council nicea from Catholics. Trying to unify all religions (universal)

It is amazing how the Church took three centuries to document the teachings of Jesus as a formal religious orthodoxy. But in doing so, revealed that in the absence of Jesus, his teachings have devolved into a confabulation: The four gospels were written long after the events; are at variance as to the teachings and biography. Importantly, they were written in Greek and not the language of the disciples who preserved the oral tradition in Aramaic. Paul appears to have been given prominence, despite not having known Jesus other than vicariously. Interestingly, Paul appears to have been at variance with Peter, a true disciple.

Please be aware almost every manuscript that was translated by scribes - made notes ie Gospel of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The testimony of almost every scribe dates back to probably the original gospel. The testimony of the collective scribes holds more credibility than any modern academics today. We need to assume the collective Scibes testimony holds a historical tradition. Please address this fact before you assert the gospels are authored by unknown writers. Let along the Church Fathers writings.

First of all, they were written in Koine Greek, which was the universal language at the time. Everyone knew it. Second, the scholarly consensus is that they were written within 40 years of Jesus death, other than John. Third, Luke was a physician and historian, Mark was a scribe and interpreter for Peter, Matthew was a tax collector, and John had about 60 years to learn, and above all else, they could have hired scribes to write for them. At the end of the day, the gospels are INTERNALLY anonymous, but that doesn't determine anonymity. It was extremely common for ancient greco-roman biographies to be written without an author in the text and in 3rd person. Every single manuscript we have attributes them to the 4 original authors. If they were circulating anonymously, there would be variations. So, in short, we know who wrote them, and there isn't any sustainable evidence to suggest otherwise.

I’ve heard good evidence that says the Gospels started robbery written in 40AD based on the content in them and who they would have been speaking to. It’s a shame they leave this out of this analysis. It kind of makes everything else a little faulty if you don’t analyze all the theories objectively, especially when you are talking about ancient history.

I love how we just accept Q as gospel when there is absolutely no evidence of it ever having existed. We just assume that because the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke line up similarly that they must have shared a common source. What if Q was simply the eyewitnesses the gospel writers interviewed prior to writing down their words?

If you want a clue as to what was happening with Julian's state of mind just before he began his campaign against the Sassanian Empire, read his letters to his old Christian classmate St. Basil (who both studied together in Athens) before Julian became the Emperor. His first letter to Basil was very conciliatory. He invited Basil to the court of Constantinople to receive his friendship and to make his mind up on whether Basil would to stay in the Emperor's Court or not. I don't believe that Basil, who was a very harsh critic of Julian, ever responded to that first, seemingly kind, letter. Later in his rule, just before he left on his Sassanian campaign, Julian sent Basil another letter. this letter could be described as haughty and not friendly. In that letter, Julian was bragging about his intention to subdue the Sassanians and he demanded that Basil send him 1000 solidi of gold, ostensibly because Julian was aware of Basil's criticism. Basil did respond to this letter. In his response, Basil said that he was a poor man and did not have such riches to give to Julian. I get the impression, along with his sour reaction to the riots in Antioch, that Julian would have punished Basil and his Christian opponents had he been successful in his war. It's just speculation on my part, but I think Julian's tactics against Christians would have been a lot harsher had he not been killed in battle and had returned to continue his reign.

There are a few reasons why liberal scholars dated the gospels written later than how conservative scholars date. One example is that Matthew could not have written his account before 70AD- Because written in there was a prophecy from Jesus, speaking of the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem. Which happened in 70AD. The liberal scholars hold an anti supernatural worldview- that presuppose prophecy is impossible, because the supernatural doesn’t exist.

Yawn. Another Bart Ehrman rehash argument. There is a lot of evidence that the Gospels were written well in the 1st century AD by eyewitnesses. Also, if you have 12 disciples why name two of the Gospels for relative unknown Luke and Mark? The Apostolic Fathers even said that Luke & Mark were not even eyewitnesses. If you want to "create" a religion shouldn't you just go hog wild and name them after more well known disciples like Andrew, Thomas or James like the Gnostic Gospels did?
