What Google you think would be best for hare scrambles
@IdahoDualSport2084 күн бұрын
It depends on the terrain and duration. All of them would work, but I would think the Armega and Lucid would be your best bet if you need tear offs. If you’re riding different day times or lighting conditions, the quick magnetic lens swapping capability on the Havocs are sweet. If you don’t need tear offs, the Klim goggles are by far my favorite and most comfortable to wear for long periods.

@IdahoDualSport20827 күн бұрын
Definitely the Klim’s! It’s subjective to face shape, but for me the Klim goggles are the least restrictive and by far the most breathable. The EKS lucid was a close second, and I think it’s because of how soft the foam is that goes over the bridge of your nose. However, in one of my other videos I took a nasty high side that threw me head first into the ground and the Armega’s cut the bridge of my nose from the impact, so maybe soft isn’t always a good thing 😅

Currently in a (kind of) similar situation. I have a husky te250i 2-stroke, which is absolutely fantastic for single track and just trail riding in general. I also have a CRF 450L set up more for light adventure riding, but I still rip trails and even single track on it sometimes Love them both, will likely keep both...but I keep going over whether I should sell them both to get a ktm/husky 500/501. Less expensive, just simpler to maintain one bike...but I really love single track riding, and I just can't see the 501 being close enough to the 2-stroke in terms of overall capability. I also wonder how far off the 450L is from the husky 501 for technical woods riding? I have the ECU and pipe upgrades for it. Yes, it's quite a bit heavier...but I still feel like it might be close to the 501? Is the 501 REALLY close enough to the te250i 2-stroke woods capabilities...orbis it just moderately better than the 450L? Curious to hear your thoughts. Thank you.
@IdahoDualSport208Ай бұрын
That’s a very tough predicament to be in. Mainly because, although there is a lot of overlap from those two bikes, they are still far apart on each end of the spectrum. I will say this though, the 501 with the right gearing is the closest thumper I’ve ever had to a 2 stroke 300. It has bottomless linear torque, and only comes shy in the super gnarly stuff where stalling becomes an issue. The 450L is a great bike, but no matter what you do it’s a race motor and it is nowhere near as smooth or tractable as the 500/501 is. The 2 stroke will always feel more playful on the trails, and carry its idle easier in steep tight switchbacks. The 501 hangs in there closer than most people would think, though. I ride with 12/50 gearing a lot of the time and have made it up hills and sections that some 2 strokes struggled in. It weighs almost the same as most modern 2 strokes but can still dual sport without hesitation. It is by far my favorite bike I’ve ever ridden and will likely always have one in the garage after owning this one. However, I would be lying if the temptation to get another 2 stroke hadn’t crossed my mind. I don’t solely seek out tight mountain single track very often, but when you come across it, there’s no denying that a 2 stroke is better in those conditions. Overall the 501 does everything off-road amazingly well, and maybe better than any other bike. It can still hit pavement sections if needed, but I really don’t have it set up for that minus the street legal kit for when necessary. My gearing, tires, and suspension are all setup to get me through typical Idaho terrain which can get technical quick. It’s an amazing bike and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend one over the 450L, but I’m not 100% sure I can say that it would fully replace you’re 250 in a way you’d be satisfied with. Hope that helps a bit. Good luck with the decision!
@andrewhume7410Ай бұрын
Thanks for the reply man. I appreciate your input. It's just one of those scenarios where you have one bike (501) that isn't really quite as good as either of the other two at their respective categories...450L is, in my opinion, a better all around dual sport (mostly due to better road manners) and te250i is a better woods/enduro bike - compared to the 501. BUT - 501 is still a decent dual sport, still pretty damn close to the 2-stroke on trails (with proper set up), and it's only one bike to maintain. The other side of that though is that if you try to use just one bike for all of your riding styles - perhaps I'm wrong, but I feel it will 'wear out' faster, lol. I'm from eastern Canada (Prince Edward Island) and our typical dual sporting routes with a combination of pavement, fire roads, and ATV double track don't typically overlap with the tighter single track riding (because most of that is on private land)...so probably makes sense to keep both. The 450L can handle the dual sport routes around here just fine. If they overlapped more, and technical terrain was more integrated into the dual sporting...I'd definitely have a 501, KTM 500, or even a beta dual sport. Maybe you should do the same if your mountain single track is a totally separate scenario that you would do frequently enough? Cheers
@IdahoDualSport208Ай бұрын
@@andrewhume7410you’re pretty much right on the money, and nailed down why I scaled down to just the 501. It can handle the tighter mountain riding I generally do because it’s so integrated into Idaho’s riding. There’s potential to maybe add another 2 stroke in the future, but the 501 has just been so good the desire just hasn’t been there, yet. However, I am definitely planning on adding an ADV bike like the 890r or 901 expedition to accompany the 501 in the next year or so 😎 thanks for watching and giving feedback. This will be helpful for other viewers as well, I’m sure!

Which Klim lens do you recommend for every day riding? For sun, shade, dual sport, adventure, off road/trail and OHV park riding. Dont want to change lenses. I have a helmet coming in and I'm not sure if I'd get the Klims or the Havocs. the Havocs with their interchangeable lenses is so huge being able to swap clear for tinted depending on conditions, but clear visibility is also super important

@@Insaiyanriderso the 500 EXC-F and the FE501 are very similar and ride almost the same. The FE501 feels a bit more upright and sporty, while the EXC-F feels more like a dual sport, however that’s mostly due to setup and ergonomics. The CRF450L is most related to the WR450 in my opinion. The ECU, fueling, and mapping is not my favorite and it does not ride as plush or as dynamic as the KTM and Husqy. On pavement, none of them are great. They’re just performance dirt bikes that can get by on pavement when needed. Off road, it’s kind of a pick your flavor scenario. The 500 and 501 have a very lush bottom end that is linear, controllable and bottomless with torque. The 450 is a refined race motor so it’s much more jerky and less happy lugging in technical terrain. Beyond that it comes down to preference with ergo’s and aesthetics.

Roll your levers forward {tipped downward enough} that you can keep your forefingers resting on the clutch & brake at all times, even when standing & then let the muscles in your hands adjust to this position = you add the second fingers as needed for clutch & brake pulls {& then go back to just resting the forefingers} this develops into a muscle memory within a month This is how you avoid whisky throttle in treacherous terrain as well as lightning quick clutch & brake for panic situations As you increase your speed on faster & faster bikes this becomes sorta critical at a certain point & As a bonus when you get on your buddies janky clapped out bush pig with loose wobbly levers buzzing away & about to fall off., you'll have developed the technique to silence & control that annoyance, you'll also start to notice that you might not want to be infront of someone who isn't using this technique My 2 cents, anyways, beautiful bike, nicely setup, good choice 4sure

I am confused. So which boot you would keep if you are only allowed to keep one pair.
@IdahoDualSport2085 ай бұрын
For me personally, I would take the SG12. However, that’s not the boot for everyone understandably. The SG12 offers premium protection, is comfortable and gives me the most confidence on the bike. The SG10 is very similar and offered at almost half the price, it just lacks some of the premium protection parts offered on the SG12. I currently swap between the Leatt 5.5 and SG12 depending on the ride, and/or terrain. All of the boots mentioned here are great, it just matters on how they fit you, what your budget is, and what your intended use is. In my opinion, the SG12 can’t be beat as the best do it all boot, unless you’re spending a lot of time off the bike walking around.

@ElGancho08 I will say this, don’t be intimidated by the bigger motor. It handles in a manner that is very controllable and predictable for a newer rider - and still allows for you to grow into the bike. The Taco Moto GET ECU and map switch does an even better job of this by implementing a detuned map at the switch of a button that makes it even more controllable, especially in slower and more technical terrain.

What Google you think would be best for hare scrambles
It depends on the terrain and duration. All of them would work, but I would think the Armega and Lucid would be your best bet if you need tear offs. If you’re riding different day times or lighting conditions, the quick magnetic lens swapping capability on the Havocs are sweet. If you don’t need tear offs, the Klim goggles are by far my favorite and most comfortable to wear for long periods.
You need so new Videos
Yes I do. It’s been a crazy year so far. Hoping to get back to riding soon. Any suggestions?
How do you manage inside fog?
Not much you can do except utilize a goggle with good air flow. All of these do well in that regard. I do like ability to pop off the lenses and let my face breathe on those Havoc’s!

100% worth it! Best upgrade for that bike, outside of the JD jet kit.
Hablando de los LEATT eres una niña llorando. Son por mucho de los mejores en el mercado. Y los klim? seguro te pagaron por este video.
Which one of these won't try to suffocate me by squeezing my nostrils shut?

Thank you.
Cheers
I just rode my buddy's 890 adventure through the woods last weekend... interesting, lol. Obviously built for a variety of riding conditions, but it handled surprisingly well on the trails. It kind of just tractors through but you have to keep the momentum going...unless you're really skilled. Fun bike. I'm curious if the beta dual sports are even closer to the 2 smokers? Especially the 390 or 430cc models. Anyway...thanks dude. Ride on.
@@andrewhume7410the 890 is rad. A big old dirtbike! It rides like a DRZ/DR, just plow through stuff. In regards to the Beta, keep an eye out. There will be some 390 action on the channel here soon 😎
Which Klim lens do you recommend for every day riding? For sun, shade, dual sport, adventure, off road/trail and OHV park riding. Dont want to change lenses. Have been using Bell transition FF shield for years. Changes light to dark fast enough, but from dark to light takes awhile - 1 to 2 mins which seems normal for these type of lenses.
That’s a tough call. I like the lens included with the goggles, however they also have a dual sport helmet with a photo-chromatic lens which may suit your needs better? The tinted lens they include is really good for most of the riding I do.

thanks for the insight on the Klim. imo visibility is huge. definitely overkill for my usecase as an escooter rider (I use my scooter instead of a car) but seeing as I'm around cars all the time I figured I'd better pony up for motorbike kit instead of bicycle kit. I have a helmet coming in and I'm not sure if I'd get the Klims or the Havocs. the Havocs with their interchangeable lenses is so huge being able to swap clear for tinted depending on conditions, but clear visibility is also super important
They all have pro’s and con’s for sure. The havocs are really convenient for that reason. The Klim goggles might be overkill for your case, and I’d like at the EKS lucid and Havoc Infinity as solid options. The Havocs would be great if you are changing the lenses often!

Maybe order from a site with free returns or exchanges just to be safe! I had to play that game a bit when messing around with all these boots.
Great advice, and all very valuable information! Thanks for the input 🤝
I don't think you need a new helmet, it did its job at "slow speed" FK I've certainly Sharpie markered a few low speed scratches don't worry about this at all "in my opinion" of course {unless you think you hit "really hard!" Idduno.. its subjective I suppose) Buy a pair of adjustable levers Dial those in for your hands Run your air pressure as low as you dare.. lol 😆 {11 psi?} & Have fun., I think your on the right track 👍
Maybe also run your suspension as low as you dare {this would give maximum effect in range of motion of course} so if you weigh 175 lbs ..? {I dunno 🤔 I'm just looking at a video, myself I weigh 275 but I'm 46 right so I'm from the previous generation From a stock suspension setting I'm guessing for you I'd recommend -1 on front rebound {the rest of it leave in standard) On the rear clickers it is actually legitimate to figure out the sag for your weight But since your not going to be overwhelming the stock valving I'm thinking you could take 1 click off of standard compression & 2 clicks off of standard rebound The "idea is" to have a sorta "dead rear" it'll never throw you over the bars, it'll never pogo you, you will adjust and have confidence that you'll be landing rear wheel first or at least at the same time That's how I started on this venture in 2002

Thanks for watching! The SC Comfort is plenty seat for me, and is much more streamlined to maneuver around off-road. The XL is a lot wider and makes it harder to move around on the bike when standing. If most of your riding is going to be high speed and sitting, the XL would be a good choice.

They made the 24’s even better. Enough that I have been tempted a few times to upgrade. Their only downfall is a weird sump location in the fuel tank, but Taco Moto already created a remedy. @@IdahoDualSport208 did the mapping help with the low speed stalls?
@charlesodle8595 absolutely. The GET ECU makes a massive difference for dual sporting. Map 1 is perfect for pavement and fast fire roads or open country. so the Beta 500 vibrates more than the KTM?
No I believe the beta 500 is much improved in that regard. Although, the vibrations on the KTM/Husqy are only felt on pavement in my experience, and can be mostly fixed with bar dampeners and a quality seat. Regardless, they are all just dirtbikes that can go on pavement.

They are a great boot. Glad you found one that works. I’m sure they’ll treat you well on the trails 👍🏻
Ok, I have big feet, shoe size 18,4eeee wide. I think for boots I can get away with 16. Bike is KLR 650. Plan on 80-20 on vs off-road. Off being defined as gravel, forest service roads,maybe fire roads, but no stunts, jumps or single track, and some longer trips like us95 or I90 over lookout pass to Missoula, but mostly local. Good recommendations?
That’s a tough call. I think first off, you might be limited to what you can find in that size. It’s hard to say which boot will fit you best, but for that type of riding you might be better suited looking at the Gaerne Balance. It’s got good protection and is for more of a road dominant dual sport and light adventure rider. The fact it’s leather may make it better fitting for a larger foot as well.
@@IdahoDualSport208 yeah Gaerne only goes to 12 on their site😂
@stevek4449 you might have to splurge on some custom Italian beauties then! 😎
Would you recomend the Gaerne Fastback Enduro for a beginner rider who would also use them for passing the Driving license (and course)? Would they be too stiff for touring?
Yes, I personally would use them for this case. I did my endorsement course and test in my SG12, which is a bit more stiff and robust. The SG10 is a great boot for somebody who plans on spending a full day on their bike and riding 70% or more off-road. If there’s more pavement time, there’s better options suited towards that type of riding that provide a bit more comfort and weather protection. Thanks for watching!
Great video! Thanks for sharing! I'm currently riding a WR250R and looking to get something a bit more advanced. Have you ridden and/or considered a Beta 500 RR-S before purchasing your 501? Cheers! 👍🏻🇺🇸🍻
Yes I actually did. It was up at the top of my list. They are really solid bikes and comparable in terms of performance. They lack quite a bit in comparison in the aftermarket, but not enough that it would hinder my decision to get one. I’d say it’s important to have dealer support close by with Beta, only because they are finicky and have quirks that sometimes require Beta to step in and help resolve them. 500’s are great machines and while they wont be as good on pavement, they are night and day better off-road.
The 501 is the best dirt bike ever made
I’m having a hard time arguing that one. I love it.
