A friend of mine had one of those X100B amp heads and it sounded great...I had purchased a 400 SX head from that same time period..it was a solid state head and it rocked too..Carvin made some excellent amps.. I even had a Pro Bass 200 1-15" bass amp and that amp would shake the paintings off my walls.. Excellent video here.

thats a cool review of the amp those old carvins look cool I would try one if I could. I think it sounds heavy on its own.I did like the ODD pedal too. I can hear what you mean about the doom metal sound. Was cool to see and hear how heavy this amp can get cool review. I like a death metal guitar sound and doom metal has a good sound too.

@@dragonmodel9262 Yeah, a simple overdrive, like a Tubescreamer would get you there. On the amp, bass around 3 or 4 o'clock, mids/focus a little less than 1/2, highs around 3 o'clock. Crank the gain!! That should be a good spot to start.

It looks like exciters are another effect in itself that has been disposed of by all of the current commercial manufacturers. I've always found the concept of artificial harmonics without the use of distortion fascinating and am surprised it was never made the focus of a tube simulating system. A sophisticated digital exciter to hand pick harmonics and their magnitude as well as a steep cut-off equalizer could be set so no matter what you plugged it into, even a Fischer Price gadget, it would sound like your tone was coming out of a dozen vacuum tubes. I still greatly prefer solid-state but when the mood arose, you could model any tube combination of every amp on earth when you wanted in terms of the unique and sophisticated harmonic footprint in every piece of gear. *Harmonics are like the DNA of your tone.*

The ultimate drive is a clone of the OCD. I have the rebranded fuzz Saphue brand. The fuzz is muddy and weird. I have bought 30 fuzz pedals from Ali Express and they are not the same circuits but are clones of expensive pedals.. For 20$au they are OK. The kmise Crunch Distortion is the best in the series. The standout are Azor, Caline, Mosky audio Ginean. The others are still good but have slight noise issue. Definitely worth buying for the price to see what you like before buying the original. I am retired so it's just for fun. I bought 150 pedals in 8 months and I am running out of storage space. 😂

*Boosts have great potential if your amp already has a slamming dirty shred channel, or a pedal in your chain does and you want it to go nearly toxic with gain.* My first original design was a boost and eventually turned into a Class-A boost into a germanium overdrive topology. *I'm way behind schedule, but I am still working on a wicked preamp fuzz centered design ATM and will message you when one is ready to be sent your way.*
