Like most thinkers of this ideological tradition, it creates a really superficial false dichotomy that warps the minds of their its followers to see everything in these terms even if real life isn't as simple. It asserts that the so called oppressed must be first "educated" about the theory. These things rarely are formed with them but by academics. It is very paternalistic about the "oppressed" and rejects gradual changes and instead goes into marxist revolutionary thinking. I also reject the idea of teleological history. It is quasi-religious thinking. Still, it is interesting to hear an uncritical explanation of his ideas.

Fundamental to this theory is that labor (work) is oppression. It further assumes that anyone who is not oppressed is not contributing. Both assumptions are wrong and makes every other thought derived from them fundamentally flawed

James Lindsey's New Discourses has a few veeery detailed videos on his bad ideas and influence. James can sometimes be obsessive about certain ideas and recently went a bit mad by seeing gnosticism as the root of most bad ideas in that realm of thought. The Freire videos are likely from before this. He exposes a lot with direct quotes so it is worth listening

my friend, you do not have clue about what you are talking, the same way all those so called philosophers. Those are just individual opinions with lots of big words. @@Verulam1626...I am not a scholar of anything, only book I read from start to end and understood was the " Tipitaka" that is Buddha's direct words put into Pali from Singhalese Auwawa....which I doubt any of the westerners will ever be able to read or even can get hold of, unless they spend lifetime learning Singhalese language to comprehend the words written in Atuwawa...and even then get permission to have access to read it... luckily the Brits didn't find this ancient scripts to loot like the other scripts they looted from our countries.

Good job presenting however .......This is being taught in our schools ,no hierarchal respect for the teacher, no discipline ,no repetition through banking .I see the results so clearly opposed to my Victorian education where we were put under the gun to execute tasks. You teach kids to mimic success not criticize it . His Pedagogy is not very effective .Its creating weak, entitled kids who can not take criticism in order to grow and mature .Oppressor oppressed is a self defeating ideology . .Well at least Palo pissed off the feminists .

I would argue that the concept of banking model is oversimplified. Nobody would argue today that in a proper university we use the banking model. Homework, teaching assistants, discussion sections, tutors, office hours, questions and answers are all recognized as being as important if not more than sitting in class. All of these are opportunities for students to be active in the learning process. However, I would then respond that Freire’s goal is not really pedagogical but political… obviously.

I'm a college student! HW, TA's, sections, etc. all certainly help me learn a lot! They feel more like technologies to help me learn though and don't stand in contrast to the banking model, which is just a criticism of the hierarchy of teachers over students. So far, I've only had one or two classes where my teacher gave me some control over my curriculum. In general though, especially with general education or required courses for my major, I don't really have a choice in what I'm learning, teachers have huge power over me, and the best I can do is hope they're nice.

I am sorry but if I am learning physics I want to leave the curriculum decisions to people who have been doing it for decades and I am fine with handing them authority over me. As long as the hierarchy is just and I can also climb it by my own efforts. Wouldn’t you agree that by going to college you also are climbing a hierarchy and that in a just society that is a hierarchy of authority and expertise and competence and merit? Not just power?
