Thank you for sharing this. I am homeschooling our 2 boys and this is a great way to display some of their collection of shells and rocks. Unfortunately, they are all mixed up already.
❤
These are actual helpful tips rather than vague platitudes like follow your heart, etc. subjective rather than objectivie. Thank you!
So I could keep a commonplace book just full of quotes I’ve underlined in books?
A beautiful created travel art journal ☥...p.s. did you get vaccinated to go on your trip?
Thank you! no required vaccinations for Egypt 😉📖🕯
Another wonderful and infornative video, Sylvie! Love the care and creative design of your pages. Always excited to watch your new videos....keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! I am very pleased you enjoyed it. 📖🕯
😮 WOW!!!
glad you liked it 😉📖🕯
Such a well done video! Answered all my questions. Thank you!!!
Glad it was helpful! you are so welcome 😉📖🕯
What a gorgeous book you made!! It is really stunning and it looks to me as the most beautiful history book. Making history more fun then boring, your book is the best thing I have seen ever. I love history, especially of the Great Masters, pitty you wrote the name of Vincent van Gogh wrong, my fav painter and Dutch like me. I have always had the idea of starting a study, but now I know what the most gorgeous and efficient way would be. I just strated this last week my first commonplace book, ofcourse all about art, but it is nothing like yours. I love what I have done so far, but your video gave me al the information I needed. I have seen so many videos about commonplace books, most are just writing with evey now and then some pictures etc, But your gorgeous book is such a great inspiration. especially all the info around the margins, so helpfull. I am on my way, love what I have done and with your video I know how I can make it even more me then it allready is. Thank you so much for this great video, have a nice day.
Colin, if anything this makes me trust you more. Keep your head up and keep up the good work 🤘
I would love to see how you took the plain notebook from ordinary to beautiful…your process . I’ve really enjoyed all your videos on commonplace books. Beautiful.
Thank you for your pleasant feedback. Soon I will record some shorts for the process. 😉📖🕯
@@journaldesylvie 👏👍
Is that the Indiana Jones book?
@@torres870rem how did you know it’s one of my favorites?? 🤣
I’ve been watching your channel. Great info and practical suggestions. Thank you for the time and care you put in your videos. 👏👏👏
My pleasure! glad you like it 📖🕯
You're very thorough ... thank you!
You are most welcome! Glad you liked it 📖🕯️
So interesting! Your videos have inspired me to be more intentional with my journals. Curious, how would this be different from a common place journal? Looking forward to this series!!
Good question 😉 My commonplace book is mainly for general knowledge where the Cabinet of Curiosities is specifically for collected or observed specimen/curiosities . However, a Commonplace Book is a holistic space where you compile general wisdom AND/OR you can choose to dedicate it for a specific topic of your interest. In other words, I consider all my notebooks a CPB in one way or another 📖🕯
This was a great informative video! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! you are so welcome 📖🕯
I've just received my first TN and with only one elastic I don't understand how you attached the third section of your set-up. Will you please clarify this for me. Thank you.
Hello, for 3 inserts you will need an additional band, I left you the link in the description box under Pens & Stationary. I also have a reel on how to combine 3 in my Instagram (you will find it right away as I don't have many reels 😊) let me know.
Excellent video. I am curious why you did not choose binder paper or a notebook with perforated pages? Any thoughts on ensuring paper and writing remains usable for a lifetime longer? Off to another video of yours.
Hello again 😉 the notebooks I use are quite durable, no issue so far. But if this is a concern you certainly can look into binder paper. There is a great variety. 📖🕯
Thanks for the very useful video. I noticed the page layouts are beautiful. I thought the pictures were a.helpful addition to whoever reads your CP book. Where did you originally get the idea to create a common place book? How do you decide what you want to learn? What will you do with all.your learning and records of learning? I noticed there was no signs of errors like lines through words or arrows to look somewhere else for more information. Do you create a rough draft first? Do you made photos from books or magazines into your CP book? Do you have favourite reference sources? Sorry but I must ask, why don't you just look at an encyclopedia.when you want to revisit past learnings ? Are you reinventing the wheel? What notebooks do you use for your CP? What do yo think of binder paper for a CP?
Hello Sandra, thank you for your questions. I sent you an email. 📖🕯
Because you said you add the Latin names of the species it occured to me that i could use this to expand my vocabulary in foreign languages. I find i lack the words for specific bird or tree species. As i prefer drawing over writing, this is also much less intimidating to me than a commonplace book is, although I like your videos on those.
your idea is creative! Absolutely you can enhance your linguistic skills through your nature journal. my next video is about the nature journal collection 📖🕯
It would be wonderful to watch a video on the aging process you used here, it's beautiful.
Coming soon! 😉 thank you for the suggestion
I think what I have is my great grandfathers sisters common place book. She died young and never had children and he kept her book and gave it to my grandma who gave it to my mom who gave it to me. She wrote lots of quotes and poems. She wrote important dates and things that happened in those dates. It isn’t a journal in my opinion but I wasn’t sure what to call it. Now I have a name for this precious book of hers.
That's precious to inherit her commonplace book...its priceless! 📖🕯
What a beautiful idea
Thank you, pleased you liked it!
What about Y and Z? Or are they not used enough to have in index?
Hello, I have a section for the rest of it in the following page. As this notebook is a bit of non-standard size to fit all in one page. 😊📖🕯️
Thank you for sharing these wonderful ideas and your beautifully set up commonplace book. It has been inspiring to say the least.
You are so welcome! 📖🕯
Super et incroyable! Je l'aime!
Merci beaucoup! 📖🕯
Beautiful journaling❤
Thank you, glad you liked it 📖🕯
I'm new to commonplacing and my book is too general for this but my brain really likes the concept and I appreciate you teaching it in a way my brain could absorb! Some of those pages in your art commonplace book are art themselves! 💜
You are so welcome! I am very pleased to see your feedback about the indexing concept 📖🕯
What a beautifully simple concept for an intricately exquisite collection.
Thank you! Glad you found it useful 📖🕯️
Gosh…I collect so many, mostly natural things. Bird feathers, bird nests, seed pods, flower seeds, seashells, animals bones….i never once thought about starting a journal for them. What a great idea!
I am so pleased you found the curiosities notebook a practical application for your cabinet collection 📖🕯
I know this is stupid question but how did you print those pictures out as clearer? It looks HD with colours
Actually valid question! I have a collection of ephemera and stickers (usually relevant to my topics of interest). I usually leave links to many in the description box. Occasionally I print but typically it’s a purchased already printed collection. 📖🕯if nothing in my collection is relevant, I sketch a basic representation of what I need to highlight. 📖🕯
I learn so much every time I watch your videos!
Thank you! It’s a reminder why I enjoy sharing notebook systems📖🕯
I’m going on vacation in September. Thank you for sharing I wasn’t sure how to keep a journal on the trip. 💜💜💜
You are so welcome! And for ideas regarding what to travel journal about, I shared 10 things I usually cover while traveling when applicable (inspired from Marco Polo’s travelogue) check it out if you want: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q5Vhps2IYreXkpM.htmlsi=b7vSPsXIr36yTmRd Have fun! 📖🕯
Coincidentally, I just had my students turn in their cabinets of curiosity based on found objects they have been collecting this semester. They blew me away with their creativity! Thanks for sharing about these cool learning tools!
That is awesome! Curiosities open doors for learning and imagination. Especially when they start cataloging their collection. I am glad you found the video useful. 📖🕯️
thank you ma'am for such important instructions.
You are. Welcome! Pleased you found it useful 📖🕯️
Fascinating as always Sylvie! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences in such a beautiful and artistic way. Greetings from Peru!
Always good to hear your feedback Alejandra! I am very happy you found it interesting 📖🕯️
Hello Sylvie, thank you so much for this most informative video. I collect so many, mainly natural, things on my travels. Now I'm thinking about starting a cabinet of curiosities journal besides my travel journals. Many greetings 💕
Thank you Andrea, I am very pleased you found it useful and that we share the same interest in collecting. I hope you enjoy the notebook journey and see the benefits of cataloging your items! 📖🕯️🥰
Thank you so much 💕@@journaldesylvie
So glad your back. Beautiful layouts and very interesting.

I'm very intrigued and encouraged to start my own cabinet of curiosities now. Thank you for this video! 😊
Thank you! Let me know how it goes 🕯️📖
i've used this set up since last year and will probably continue to do so, thank you! :)
You are welcome. Glad it worked well for you! 📖🕯️
@@journaldesylvie thankyou 😊
What a wonderful description. thank you. I make them too, and love them with a passion. Diana
You are so welcome Diana, I am very pleased you enjoy commonplace books 😉📖🕯
This is an interesting meeting of different worlds! I’m coming from the computing and engineering side of the house to find an effective way to index information. This was very enlightening!
Hello, Thank you and I am glad you found some useful tips. Also, If your commonplace book are about one theme, you may benefit from the abbreviated method of John Lock's Index kzread.info/dash/bejne/k6eMzKSxo5O9daw.htmlsi=Isr3qU7N_7WolWK6
@@journaldesylvie I will definitely consider that! Finding information quickly is paramount in my area.
I really love your simplified version of a reading book ❤ most of the reading journals I've seen are a bit too elaborate and time consuming for me too! As a literature teacher, i really want to have time to sleep beside grading, preparing classes and read (both for myself and for the classes i prepare for my students!) And i'm mesmerized by your fluency in several languages! Congratulations! It's so precious to know several languages and be able to access the culture of several places! (i only know French, English and Japanese, and it already brought me so much perspective on my culture and things i used to do without being aware it was a pure cultural setting!)
Thank you! I am pleased you liked the setup, especially coming from literature 😉📖🕯and yes Its a privilege to be able to communicate in multiple languages and enjoy the art behind each culture. I posted a more holistic update about my reading/notebook system. I think you may enjoy it, specially in your domain: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fnefq8excse_l9o.htmlsi=fDiUWJdzaxkbSsLK
My solution to color coding notes was the Pilot Frixion multi 4 with black, blue, red, and green. The reason for the Frixion pen is because my schedule changes often.
Thank you, I got one with same concept and its very handy.
Thanks so much for putting this into a well-presented video. I found info about John Locke's method some time ago, and it's easy to use, although I write the keywords in as well. Now, each time I start a new notebook I adapt the index from the old one, depending on which words I index most.
I am very pleased you liked and thank you for sharing your tips. I used keywords too in my commonplace book 📖🕯
