I’d hope that Lady Lannister, Tywin’s wife would have loved Tyrion like Jaime did

7:22 I find the way Tywin throws around the phrase “You’re my son/ my daughter” very interesting. Coming from any other character, it would be a mark of respect, of fatherly pride. Like “you are my blood, my legacy, and I love you.” But when Tywin says it, it’s feels like a chain, a shackle chaining the Lannister children to their father to use as he sees fit. When Tywin says it, it sounds like “ I sired you, I gave you everything you have, you OWE me.” Never does he infuse the term with pride or love. Always duty and obligation. No wonder they all resented him. Tywin never loved them for who they were, only what they could do for him and how they reflected upon his name.

6:00 one of my favorite deliveries from Charles, you can really feel him struggle and fail a little bit just to tell Tyrion he was right about something

Tywin is the closest thing we got to a perfect character. Charles Dance's acting is flawless. Every scene with the character actually has a point, and he remains consistent from his first appearance to his last. *This* is how you write a great character.

I like it later when Cersei tries to pull the same shit as Tywin and Olenna Tyrell tells her "we both know you're not writing anything." Charles Dance's presence is one of the greatest things about him and every scene with him is perfect. I don't exactly love everything that they did with the character and plot, but Tywin was one of the characters I really loved to hate.

The whole reason Jaime attacked Ned was to take him prisoner. "Take him alive, kill his men!" was his order. Then he just left him there. should have taken him with him to Tywin's camp.

My favorite interaction from this video is the one Tywin has with Jaime. Tywin is one of the most powerful lords in the seven kingdoms, and yet he still chooses to butcher the boar himself.

Many people missed the fact that Tywin always suspected that Tyrion wasn't his son, but Aerys'. That was probably the source of his spite towards him, instead of his physical attributes, or Joanna's death during labour. Probably one of Tywins' very few flaws, and his ultimate doom.

  • @cwdoby

I wonder if Tywin REALLY cares about the concept of family and legacy, or if he knows he is just buying into it to give his life meaning and give him an excuse to be so cruel. Is he aware enough to know he is full of it?

  • @LegionIvory

Nah, that was just an excuse. The reality is Tywin feared what people thought of him and the Lannister name if 'The Imp' assumed power over Casterly Rock. Cersei and Jamie were far worse than Tyrion, but they could hide their flaws. Tyrion couldn't.
