John and Catherine are a husband and wife team from Redding, Connecticut. We grow food and flowers on just under 2 acres of property, but we just bought 40 acres of land and are working on building our small farm from the ground up using reclaimed materials whenever possible.
We have chickens which we raise to have a colorful egg basket, have a small herd of alpacas (Pumpkin, Mocha, Marshmellow, Maycee, Linda, Connie and Sophie), and three dopey Great Danes (Pepper, Peanut and Pebbles). We also keep honey bees and will be looking forward to making maple syrup next year!

I really think it's time to submit that application to Santa's workshop, to contract some elves to build you a pavilion for that thing. I hear they're contracted out during June, July & August😅👍
🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
Add lime, it helps break down waste and eliminates smell.
Hi Cat and John. This is great news for you. Well done for becoming an ambassador. That all looked very confusing John. You really have good at working on that machine. That surely made life much easier for you. Top job.
your arm will thank you
Kubota is made in Japan and Georgia excellent quality as all Japanese products are . I am repairing rewelding Titan forks that just bent up and a few Chinese buckets that failed . Bad bad chinesium metal . For home owners they may last. Not for serious construction heavy usage. I have run heavy equipment and repaired such since 1979. These Chinese attachments are terrible. One 72 inch bucket broke off a 289 cat in one day . Pulled out of top quick connect. Soft metal poor engineering. Should be illegal for American companies to sell this garbage . Only Chinese take out food is made in America now. Not funny

How long can you keep the new little dude with this herd until it's time to bring him over to the boys club?
At least 6 months with mom and the ladies. Sometimes more than 9 months. It depends on little dude and how much time he spends "bothering" the ladies
Me and my son were having trouble replacing our belt. My engineer father in law came over and before you know it he removed the whole yellow deck. The I find your video and my son and I reassembled the deck AMD replaced the belt no problem!!!! Great easy to follow video! Thank you!!!
Yay! Glad it helped
What’s with the ears?
Just did it to annoy you
It's a year on from this video and they are just so much worse. In fact if you watch their videos now and read a lot of the comments it legit seems like a straight-up cult or at least turning into that if that could happen over the interwebs though I guess it starts somewhere nowadays. Though I will say there is kind of a crazy story related to CalMaine, the USDA, and a few other things but certainly not to that level. Although, conspiracy theories usually start from some actual truth somewhere. I had heard outside of them not even related to KZread or even anybody that would be on KZread who did mention somewhat of a change but not necessarily drastically like they tried to put out. What are you going to do, they wouldn't keep putting out the same content if people didn't keep eating it up and giving the views so I guess can you blame them? I mean I can because I think you should have values and morals outside of views but hey some people just don't.
It's scary to see how people get actually radicalized online. Consuming non stop content about conspiracy theories (or really anything) can absolutely rewire people's brains. It's basically like Stockholm syndrome online.
Thanks for sharing, new info for me.
Glad to help
lol 😂
Someones got issues 🙃
Looks like the boys like playing in the mud🙄…. BOY 😅
Mags is thinking… “turn this back on!!!”
Maggie LOVES it when we have our splash pads or the hose for her. She's always front of the line
👍…. Play-by-play calling 👍
Just calling the shots like we see them !
Love it!!!
We loved it too! Unfortunately we moved away from that house so now we need to build another!
Are they profitable 📈?
We go through all our profits and expenses for the whole farm in this video. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZpyuzqOOhbbNYaQ.htmlsi=raBYJ7RayBgc-miA
Need to replace my belt, it's been a couple years since I've done it. This is a great refresher course. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
They are trying to look unimpressed. But unsuccessfully.
🤣🤣🤣 that's such a good way of putting it
Adorable!
The absolute distain on Maggie's face. "Get that alien out of my paddock!" 🤣 You tell him. Maggie❣️

Some happy alpacas
So fun watching the girls with splash pad and boys laying in the mud. Turtle 🐢 👎🏻
Fun to watch!
That second sprinkler is sure a dud!
That second one seems like it keeps spitting at them, it goes pretty hard :D I'd stay a mile out of the way as well.
Very fun video❤ I think you’ll need 3 or 4 of those splash pads 💦
Hi John and Cat. What’s impressive is the way the share John. I think the girls were interested because they already had a great one. I think the boys like because they didn’t have the great one On offer. I think the object laying out is more interesting to them. But the first one is the way to go.
When se got Carmella Alpaca a lawn sprinkler she laid down on it and broke it. We had to spray her with the hose four times a day. She would plop down in the mud, lift her butt up a little, and twitch it at me. All we needed was a band playing "The Stripper". She would come running humming loudly and happily. Alas, she died at the start of sprinkling season. Dolly Llama wants nothing to do with sprinkling. She does not feel the heat as much.
That looks like it is perfect, but are their hooves sharp enough to put holes in it? This is a perfect solution to the alpacas need to put feet in water because on most farms I watch, they step in water troughs which make the water dirty to drink so lots of dumping and cleaning out. Plus this serves several at the same time. The first splash pad seems to be best. Good idea.
Kevin & Cookie, love Cookie's face. Carl & Brownie, she's got beautiful, expressive eyes. Felix- oh-my-heart, not a baby anymore & Fake Petal; top three pairings. Macey dear, you look lovely as Grande Dame. You'll always be my favorite😉👍
Maycee is definitely one of our favorites too! But a "real" alpaca farm wasn't able to get her pregnant so I don't think we will be able to either. I can't wait to see Felix babies. 🤞🤞 2025!
Yep… shouldn’t as if a lady if she is expecting…. 😮😊
Don't ever guess at that !
SO STINKIN CUTE
Good job. Nice dogs.
Thanks and thanks !
Here's hoping they all criate (unpack) successfully and you can sell them all. I had friends in the puppy business; one litter of a dozen may take a long time to sell. The price falls off as the cute wears off.
Yah I don't think all these pairings will result in successful pregnancies. Last year we did 6 breedings and so far one baby
I like seeing what pairings you have come up with
Loved the trip through the breeding plan. Good luck!
Such a nice video! I love the alpacas! You should have pretty babies!
Hi John and Cat. I so remember Felix being born and how shocked you guys were. Nothing like having a quick lesson in alpaca birthing. Kevin is gorgeous. I love the choices for Felix, Kevin, Chip and Karl. They should all make great babies.
Hope so !
I've been raising alpacas for 27 years and it's always been said that you can have up to 10 alpacas per acre of good pasture...that's the number that is easy to manage without over grazing and concentrating parasites.. Manure should be cleaned up daily. They do rub on fences, so a sturdy 4 to 5 foot no-climb fencing. Yes, three feel more like a herd as well...instead of two just reading of of each other. Never keep males (even geldings) with females...Alpacas mate with the male's penis inside the uterus and so over breeding can cause a major uterine infection rather easily. All alpaca fiber is wonderful and has application. Huacayas and suris should not be crossed as it creates low quality fiber in the offspring. Second cutting orchard grass (leafy...they will not eat stems) and a quality pelleted supplement formulated for alpacas is needed to meet their nutritional requirements along with as much fresh pasture as possible. Important...Rotate the group / herd on to rested pasture for parasite control and grass regrowth. Alpacas are parasite sensitive so stay on top of parasite control (fecal testing, proper dosing, rotate herd every 2-4 weeks, etc). Watch out for Meningeal worm, Mysoplasma haemolama, coccidia species and resistant strongyles (Barber pole worm)...those are the biggies and hope that one animal doesn't get 2 or more of these problems which are all treatable and controllable. (It's not hard, just know what to use for each and have dewormers and meds on hand at the farm.) For more alpacas, use a snow shovel and plastic leaf rake. Alpaca manure is one of the best manures and it will make your plants do the unbelievable without tasting like fertilizer...use it and sell it. Meningeal worm is in certain areas. It affects the nervous system and can be treated if caught early and treated properly. Observation is key, so you know each animal well and if they ever start to act off, you'll now. Always act asap when an animal acts off...they hide discomfort well and so could have been sick for a while before they show you something isn't right. Schedule shearing in January, or sooner. Alpacas are also easy to halter train by doing each step incrementally and giving the alpaca a few minutes to understand each new expectation. I can get most walking on a lead in 10 to 20 minutes. Shearing is best done by at least two people and with laying the alpaca down and carefully stretching it out with soft, thick ropes (first attach ropes to lower legs...not pasterns...then pull ropes while the other person gently lays their head on the ground). They are a two-coated species and have been bred for fleece uniformity, density and fineness. Their drapey, supple fiber has scales that lay flat which creates exceptional softness, warmth and luster / brightness...that's what makes it the best!
I watched this and was able to fix my mower in less than 60 minutes .
Awesome !! I'm super glad you found this video helpful
Gracias exlent vidio
De nada amigo !!
Did you use 1 piece of wire for the whole thing, or 4 pieces? And then connect them?
4 pieces and then connect them all
Oh Susie, so cute
Weeding never ends!😢
