Hi I'm Jeremy, and I am fascinated by all things mechanical and antique, and if they are both, even better!
This channel will most likely be about various projects I have involving wood and metal working, but may also include those related to sustainable living, another interest yet to turn hobby for me.
Enjoy!

Just bought a 6-71 detroit for 500.00 now got to get the rest of the mill and parts one day I'll run my own rig been my dream since a little boy. Old man down the dirt road had one my job was a board stacker at 8 years old. Dirt poor but the old man paid me top dollar back then of 5.00hr! 6am till 7:30pm! Then I'd walk down the dirt road home.i was home schooled back then so I worked m-f. The old timer died soon after his wife and some Yankees bought the land and literally pushed it with a bull dozer! Just to build a retirement apartment center. They would go under and I would get my revenge as later bought the abandoned apartment and bulldozed them down. Now in memory of old man Jack and his wife Mrs Betty who helped me and my kin survive many winters I am building a sawmill where his once stood! I farm the back field now where the logs use to be stored
I would change that sawmill over 2 air dogs it would save U from alot of walking when U don't have help or a man log turner it will be a great help that U could get more done and more lumber sawed in a day's time 😉 OMG 11 9 2O22
U need bigger logs where U can open the throttle and listen 2 it sing 🎶 😌 😏 😉 👌 every time U saw a line even when idles it 🎶 sounds good 👍 the sweet 😋 sound of the gm diesel 671 most all of the old sawmills used them I remember that sound very well growing up years ago they sound even better on the days when U wind 2 push the sound when the wind is just right I could hear it on the other side of town singing in the wind TLC/OMG 11 9 2O22
It’s a lot of work getting one set up but it’s about the most fun I’ve had with my pants on!
My grandparents' sawmill worked with such pre-war technology until it closed down in 1969: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pJWms6qfkqfShqg.html. The company existed for almost 80 years and there were never any industrial accidents with fatalities or maimings. I simply assume that we Germans not only produce world's most efficient technology, but above all safe technology.
Invest in a metal detector to help reduce these types of potential accidents.
How good is that ol 6V-71 Detroit mill? Just fuckin' giviner all the way!
Loving the Detroit Sound. Not liking the wire strike. First hit accident. But to saw thru it a second time while looking at it?
First 2 cuts go off to Home Depot the rest will find a better home unless they warp while drying
A friend sawed a horseshoe in half one time in a yellow pine figured it had been hung on a limb when the tree was small
Lol dude trashed those teeth lol. I heard it hit the first time over my phone lol. And then we went for round two lol
nice detroit setup)) also i see very little sawdust flying about, you must have a very well designed dust extractor of some sort. i have an industrially made circle saw with a feeding screw and big-ass suction fan for the sawdust, but im still bothered a lot by it. nice
Wears ear protection but no safety glasses. Ignorant.
Well HELLO KITTY ! 🩹🤬
Love the video, want to know more about the setup, looks like a transmission for different feed speed? And definitely wanna know which Detroit powers this fine piece of machinery
Do I hear a 2 stroke Detroit diesel?
No eye protection?
The mill Could scan the tree trunks with metal detectors before cutting them.
Wow, a 2 stroke Detroit! Some of the loggers in Northern Maine still use these engines. It's great to hear
Yes we do... And im very suprised anybody knows we are here and not canada
@@darenscotts6868 I lived near Houlton for many years, but now back in Pennsylvania, Chester County
Im a fellow buckfieldian. Lived here all my life. One of those small towns you cannot seem to get away from. Maybe 800 people here. Graduated in a class of 26 hahaha. Good place, good hearted people
@@darenscotts6868 I miss Northern Maine. I was in the Hodgdon School District on the New Brunswick border. I was even on the school board there. I miss it all the time
Nothing happened, all that clenching and puckering for nothing
Ouch
what happened ? I didnt see anything but him chopping wood? what did I miss
There's two nails at the end of the cut about a foot in from the end. The right end
At 1:30 you can hear it cutting thru the nails and at 1:54 you can see him notice and check it out (right end of the log is what we are looking at)
Yup. the "zzzip" is the sound of a bunch of saw teeth hitting and then severing each nail.
Love it
Having run a Detriot 4-53 a couple of years in a Hydro-Axe and I am glad I had ear plugs plus head phone type muffs. That Detroit "music" is spelled deafness. Trust me, it loses its charm.
A Detroit is a machine which turns diesel fuel into noise.
One of my family members was a trucker for roughly 15 years back in the 70s and 80s but he drove a cabover with a 8v71 he now has back issues and permanent hearing loss from it cause apparently those old cabovers ride like a pile of bricks on a skateboard
Invest in a cheap magnetometer.
ADD A FEW MUFFLERS, I WORKED ON DETROITS FOR 30 YEARS. EVERY STROKE IS A PWR STROKE, BUT TO ME THE SOUND IS ANNOYING, ALL DAY LONG
Maybe metal detector
Sounds like you need to fix the governor on your Detroit engine!
YOU need change to air dogs it will save you alot of walking back and forth and also need a extra man for a log turner makes it easy for you save your self alot of work when Sawing Big logs 1 17 2022
MOST Sawyers like the gm diesel 671 powerunits to run at half throttle plenty of power she will a sawmill just fine when Sawing Big logs it will sing all day long you can hear every line you saw let her sing OMG 1 17 2022

Regardless of how the mill is being run, that is one fine sounding engine.
Detroit 2 stroke power! What an awesome sound!!
kzread.info/dash/bejne/ipaZ3LaTiM60idY.html
Hey man I've been watching your videos and my grandpa had a frick circle saw sawmill set up with a 671. We sent the governor's to Jasper engine and transmission and they rework them where instead of limiting the speed they would maintain the speed regardless of load and I think operation like that might benefit you
I love how the comments are mainly about that detroit diesel. What a beautiful sound! Keep that detroit roaring ;)

Oh, I hear a 6V series Detroit Diesel!

Fantastic video. Thank you for sharing
Great video. Not sure how you keep proper blade rpm with a hand throttle but I guess it works for you. Love the sound of a 6-71
Someone doesn't know what they are doing yet I have been a sawyer for over 30 years.
Well then offer up some good advice or shut the fu k up
Need a governor for that old Jimmy!
That 2 stroke Detroit is music to the ears!

I need help rebuilding the husk on a farquhar 9
Open her up make your saw run better. Are you doing that for a reason?
One of the nicest sounding 6/71's on KZread.
6-71 plenty of power , needs to run constant speed!!! as mentioned . Blades are hammered to run at certain RPM 600 650 ext. You don't want to be over speeding that blade!!!! LOL
i have the same mill i have just bought can you send me measurements and pics of the husk i have all the parts that go in and on the husk but the wood is gone
Circular saws are hammered to run at set rpms (usually 540rpm ). Also your blade needs the rpms it is hammered for to 'open up' and run cool . Never lug a 'jimmy', they are two stroke engines.
The rpm on these type of saws is set by the wood you intend to saw which dictates the feet per minute of the rim of the saw. 8,000-10,000 feet per minute is the range. Our 48” saw spinning at 750 rpm is traveling 9,420 feet per minute, an excellent choice for softwoods.
@@troytreeguy I am well aware of saw rpm needs for given types of wood (I have owned and operated a commercial circle sawmill since the early 1990’s). Thanks for your added input....Gary in Michigan
set the rpm and let it run your not saving any fuel doing this but then again it's your business you must have deeper pockets than most
Thats what i was thinking , we ran a 52" when i was a kid and if it idled down it was lunch, out of fuel or end of the day
you need a foot petal
Love that Detroit diesel engine roaring at full power!!!😁
