    While I usually prefer the proportions of 7 inch machines, the X-1000 is absolutely stunning, one of the most gorgeously sleek and smart looking reel to reels I've ever seen. Definitely a dream hifi item, I'd love to get my hands on one of these on day. Fantastic piece!

    I’ve own one of these for 8 years. Bought it after it was professionally serviced along with an external Dolby unit and it has been great The secret is to have it in a room where temperature and humidity are well Controlled, also to use it frequently and not let it sit for months on, and most importantly is to clean the entire path after playing or recording each reel

    It was when I was in my late 20'a or early 30's that a supervisor at a place I worked at called Career Development Center, just gave away one of this Tanburg reel to reel player recorder to me. When recording songs of mine I made with a Kawai keyboard I had, if I wanted to record four track wise all at once I had to turn it out mono. If I wanted things in stereo it was like only being able to record two track wise at once. Then I could only add two more tracks by first mixing and recording the two stereo tracks 1 left 2 right 3 left 4 right to a cassette tape, and then recording them back to two stereo tracks on the Tanburg reel to reel. Then after that I recorded the next stereo track on track 3 left and 4 right. On a 16 channel Behringer mixer I had I mixed my bass with the pan knob at center position, to mix my bass in the middle of the stereo field.

    Does this model have the 2T/4T switch under the head stack cover? Also, have you tried the Test OSC function, (Test Oscillator)? I know that this video is 8 years old but I have an opportunity to buy one and I was just wondering about that. Thanks, Rich

    I knew someone who had one of these. It seemed to never fail! He and his wife are both long gone, but his youngest son seems to be keeping the house and everything about it as if they are still alive. The machine may still be where I last saw it years ago, almost like a shrine in the tiny living room.

    I literally just found one in my attic and I need to know how to make it operate- what resources or individuals can you link me to to get it running- I hear it hum when I turn it on but the features don’t operate when I change the switches; does it need a reel to operate? Oh so many questions!

    Question. I have this deck and I've noticed when I record onto it the record meters are fine but when I record on it and the play back my recording there is no audio and no vu meter movements. Can you recommend me what could be wrong? I've never done demagnetize before and don't know if that's a symptom? I also do need to replace the counter belt. Thanks

    Have you tried to playback prerecorded tapes and get no audio? There is a source and tape switch that must be put on source when you are inputting and tape when you are playing back. If you are getting no audio degaussing won't help.

  • @TonyBourdier
    @TonyBourdier2 ай бұрын

    @marcusdolby1 yes, all my prerecorded tapes does play with a great sound. Yes I understand that part where when playing the switch is set to Tape/Play and when recording it is set to SOURCE. Ialsovtried recording on a different reel tape and noticed there was audio coming out but extremely low such as you have to put up the volume extremely high to hear it. Is there a calibrating pin inside the closed head? I really don't want to open it and make things worse?

    @@TonyBourdier Coul it be the tape? If not, I would really clean the record head with alcohol and a Q-Tip. I restored one of these decks once and I had to really clean the record head with tons of pressure to get out the rust and grime that devolved, but that was only on one channel. I would visually check the alignment by putting the deck on its back. Make sure the record head is making good contact with the tape before messing with the alignment. Maybe try gently pressing your finger on the tape to better contact the record head to see if it records better.

    just brought this deck and have no clue what im doing with it, so firstly watched how to set up the spools on a 10.5, brought some second hand music, ran the spools onto the 10.5 reels. vu meter working, no sound playing...I wish there was a video out there if start to finish set up and seperates and speakers you can add, in dumb form for myself. but lovely machine
