Hi mates How are you finding the wa’apa? I’m really thinking about building one? Would love to know how you’re finding it to sail. Where are you sailing it. I’m based in Uk and worried it might be a bit wet for these waters. Do you get a lot of spray inboard? Best wishes Paddy
@harpbloke2 ай бұрын
Hi Paddy, we are really enjoying the Wa'apa. It sails super easy with little wind. Tacking is difficult and we usually have to pull the steering oar a few times to complete the turn. This is a bit annoying as I have been building a rudder and tiller which I probably won't be able to use. We haven't had any spray onboard yet. So far we have only taken it out in estuaries where the waves are tiny. It really moves quickly in 20 knot gusts! The other day the ama lifted but that was because we weren't out on the side plank. If you build one, plan to build a safety ama to prevent capsize, most people seem to do that. I didn't and am just using PVC pipe but I'd like something a bit larger. It takes way too long to put it together! So think about alternatives to roping the beams on to the hull. If I had a huge trailer I would've built it in one piece, although there are obvious benefits to taking it apart and fitting it on a box trailer. My box trailer is 7x5.

I might start with that but I’m also not sure here to put the stays. Best wishes and keep the videos coming Paddy
