Building an outrigger sailing canoe part 11

Attaching (very) hardwood caps on the gunwales.
I'm not sure what this wood is, it came from the bed in my caravan, it may be one of more than a dozen varieties of eucalyptus that are commercially called Tassie oak, which doesn't resemble oak at all, however it is extremely hard, perfect for protecting the gunwales!
and who needs a bed when you've got a canoe!

Thank you for posting all these videos! As far as I know yours are the only Wa’apa build videos on YT. I have recently started my own Wa’apa build and your videos will help me for sure

Hi Cris, thanks for watching. I'm glad you are building one as well. I haven't finished all the parts for sailing yet, but I did get a tiny outboard for it. We've taken it out 3 times so far, the last 2 times with 4 people! I'm still pretty nervous about the joins, though with 4 people and choppy water no problems so far, we even surfed some 1 foot waves, that was super exciting, like a mini Hawaii experience! I did find another KZread channel with a wa'apa build.

@@harpbloke Awesome! Lesson #1 from your videos : I need more clamps 😂… I’ve seen people do the PVC pipe clamp thing. I wonder how well that works. Honestly though, after watching your videos, I’m inclined to just buy all the spring clamps from harbor freight.

Thanks Lisa, yes I've almost finished all the woodwork on the main hull, then fibreglassing and finishing the outrigger parts.
