If his vision is getting blurry he probably needs to see an ophthalmologist. When I was growing up they thought that I had 20/20 vision because the eye tests at my school were inadequate and the nurse at my doctor’s office had me standing too close to the eye chart. Eventually when I was a Freshman in high school (age 15) the ophthalmologist looked at the shape of my eyes and determined that I always needed glasses (my eyesight without glasses is actually no better than 20/60 on a good day (usually more like 20/80)). As soon as I was given glasses I was immediately able to see the way that I was supposed to and read faster and with more comprehension within a week or two. I mentioned above that he should see an ophthalmologist (instead of an optometrist) because an ophthalmologist can test for eye conditions that an optometrist might miss. For example, Alistair probably just needs glasses but there is a slight chance that something else could be going on. He probably doesn’t have Tardive Dyskinesia because that is usually triggered by medication. Unless he has been taking some of Ian’s medication without your knowledge that can probably be ruled out (but only a neurologist would know for certain). Therefore there’s probably something going on with his eye sight. Two eye conditions that you will want to have him tested for are cataracts (which are treatable with surgery) and Stargadt's Disease (formerly known as macular degeneration). Stargadt's Disease is a very rare condition so Alistair probably does not have that. It’s still important to be aware of because voice actor and blind surfer Pete Gustin has that condition and he went from being born with 20/20 vision to having some blurriness when he was eight years old (about a year younger than Alistair’s current age, I think). Stargadt's Disease is currently not curable but they are looking for a cure (so who knows). On a different subject I have an eye twitch but only on the left side. It is not caused by Tourette’s Syndrome or Tardive Dyskinesia (as far I know I don’t have either condition). My eye twitch is a result of a Right Hemisphere stroke that I had when I was born. I am also on the autism spectrum (currently level one, but when I was growing up I was level two (by today’s standards)). His eye twitch could be autism-related but it’s probably something else. I hope that he just needs glasses but only an ophthalmologist will know for certain. I hope everything goes well.

I'm on the spectrum and I do that a lot. Some days I do it a lot more and it gets really annoying. I do it when I'm visually overstimulated. I even do it when I see or think of something I don't like and I think of it as rubbing the bad things out of my eyes and it works. I also cross my eyes a lot. I have Amblyopia and my reaction when my eyes go off is to bring them back together. They both can be stims and then turn into tics. But I don't have Tourette’s Syndrome.

My son used to do that, but his main thing was to grit his teeth to cause that wind sound in his ears (You can make the sound happen yourself when gritting your teeth hard) Part of it also was squeezing his eyes shut too. He did both together when stressed, but also when tired. He also said it was a comfort thing too. He basically grew out of it about the time he became a teenager, and back then doctors said it wasn't harmful to his eyes, and the blurry sight was just the eyes adjusting back to normal from the squeezing shut. But as always talk to his doctor too.

Is it a tic? I would take him to a neurologist.

I would suggest taking him to an ophthalmologist first and then to a neurologist if his eyes turn out to be normal or if the eye twitch continues after being given the correct eyeglass prescription.

When my son was younger he had eye twitching, then it moved to jaw twitching & then it moved to him shrugging his shoulders. He is on the spectrum. His doctor said he has transient tic disorder & he would probably outgrow it. It's been about 2 years & he has completely outgrown it awhile ago. Sometimes he will blink alot if he is stressed, but for the most part it all went away a couple years ago. He had never been on medicine.

Does Alistair have level 1,2, or 3 autism ?

  • @thomasschoeck9080
    @thomasschoeck9080Сағат бұрын

I am on the autism spectrum (currently level one, but I was level two (by today’s standards) when I was growing up). Alistair’s autism symptoms remind me quite a bit of mine when I was growing up so it’s possible that he could be level two as well. Sometimes (for unknown reasons) tics can be seen with autism (especially level two or level three). From what I have seen in people I know who are on the spectrum tics would seem to be less common with level one autism (but still not unheard of).

My son always developed a twitch during the spring ( could be from snow mold) ? They always went away eventually. It could also be during a big growth. Try not to worry to much❤

I have that happen to me and just recently got diagnosed level 2 autistic and adhd. My body gets very overwhelmed easily and it just means I need alone time and to close my eyes to calm my body down I am still very new to my diagnosis as 40 years old but what he describes about his eyes happens to me daily. I struggle to be present for long periods but happy to talk it over if its helpful and happy to explore my own autisim in the process

I've had that tic with Tourette's. If it's not something going on with his eyes such as dry eyes, possibly provisional tic disorder, Tourette's, or something similar? Stress, frustration, excitement, anxiety, can make tics worse.

Stress is what does it for us. Goes away in a few weeks. Try not to talk about it bc that makes them do it more. Transient tic. Always get it checked out by pediatrician though.

I get this ever one and a while, never been on meds. People on the spectrum usually get tics, sometimes miss diagnosed for torettes. Might want to contact his pediatrician or family doctor. I get this alot when there is a flurecent light or bright light. But the reasons are endless. (BTW I love you guys and hope you are having fun during the warm weather!)

Tics disorder may be an option. Normally I don’t give advice to people, but since you posted, I wanted to mention that in case no one has I have a tics disorder and I do that for months at a time sometimes. and then one day it’ll just go away and that 1 tic It won’t come back for three years. I truly pray that you guys figure it out

As someone with Asperger, more than likely a tick, i had a lot of them when i was younger in my eyes and my jaw, used to have lock jaw pretty bad because of it ^^”, for me it when something was either stressing me out or i was hyper fixated on something, two peas in a pod issues i guess, always helps if he can just emote whats on his mind and get out whatever is rubbing him the wrong way.

Getting your eyes checked its my top choice in helping with this. My younger child who didn't know how to explain it was doing the same thing and it turned out one of his eyes were very farsighted and he was overcompensating with the other eye. He was too young to explain why he was twitching and struggling. It happened out of nowhere and we took him to the doctor. He needed a strong prescription of glasses. I would say go to the ophthalmologist soon because it's just going to irritate them to the point of where eventually they'll get a headache as well

I’d suggest seeing a doctor about it if you haven’t already, but as someone with Asperger’s syndrome I some times do this when I have a lot of stress or anxiety. It may just be a nervous tic

I'm not sure what it looks like from the outside perspective, so I could be wrong, but I feel like I do this when I get too stressed and anxious. Especially the part where he said his vision was getting blurry. I have other health conditions now that cause me vision issues, but before these were active I feel like this resonates with my childhood and teenage experiences. PE really also was a trigger for me.

I do this too but not very often. Thankfully the best way to manage for he is to put on sunglasses for some reason it helps, maybe because it limits the light which is a sensory input.

Maybe if he has dry eyes, his vision could be getting blurry and his body may compensate by trying to blink a lot? I might try lubricating eydrops if I was you. I dunno, not a doctor here 😅

I'm an autistic 14 years old female and i always liked to go to the mall, but i used to panic if things didn't went as planned. I still do, but my friends know how to calm me down, like going to a silent place and hugging me. I also use AAC tools like communication cards when i'm overwhelmed. Thank you for making this video! <3
