Love Ralphs Legs
Wow! Accomplishments and plans … and a dental visit! What a day! The paint looks great and Ralph looks to be a proper conversationalist for Walter! I’m excited about your upcoming “bed-house!” ❤ Kathleen
This is so exciting! Party dresses and a new house on the way! Also Ralph is looking pretty good! I mean, he’s not Walter, but he’s holding his own😂
I really like the finish you put on the room box. I can’t wait to see how the ladies are going to look in their new outfits. And the new house!
Fantastic! I make it a point to Google the subjects of the quizzes and was delighted to find images of some of the Tynietoy dollhouses. One had these wonderful murals painted on the walls. It was quite old, so I sort of felt like I was trespassing on abandoned property 😊. Thanks Jill!
The low sheen looks fabulous Jill. That is a big project you are planning Jill, but will be fun to follow.
The bed is wonderful, so yes, build the house for it- an excellent focal point and a lesson for us all. I wish I was as focused- I have too much and too many eras of items and actually no house. I think I need to get organized ( dreadful word).
Waiting for Amelia's new dress, and of course Ralph's head will be interesting, especially to Ralph!
Thanks so much for this education on miniature houses and everything that goes with them. I had wondered how you approach a new project, and didn't realize how long you've had that Beacon Hill House! It's all so delightful. :)
Every beautiful bed deserves a beautiful house built around it. Looking forward to seeing what you build! Will be fantastic for sure. Quick question will your mini mag ship to the States?
Hi @1to4Byron - Thank you for all the lovely comments. Yes, we do ship worldwide. If you go to my website homepage (miniaturetimetraveller.com/) you can see both print and digital options. Digital is less expensive as postage now is a huge cost to print publications sadly. But you can certainly, choose either or. If any problems drop a note to Roger at [email protected] and he will sort out for you :) All the best, Jill.
Yes, that house has been looking at me every day for many, many years. Will be great to have it finished Karen!!!
Its all coming together nicely..it all looks great..looking forward to seeing ralph with his head on 😅 ❤❤❤ 🇬🇧
Hello Jill, the room box looks fabulous, Walter looks very comfortable in there, love the little dog you've added, I'm looking forward to seeing Ralph added to the scene too. You're going to be busy if they all need party outfits, Amelia is what my husband would describe as wanty, he says I'm not needy I'm wanty 😂 Have a lovely week. Best Wishes from Yorkshire, England 🇬🇧 😊
I must say Jill that your dolls in Beacon Hill House are very demanding lol, wanting new clothes, as if you’re not busy enough lol, can’t wait to see what Ralph looks like, it’s good to have a husband that saves bits and pieces for your projects, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
It is fiddly, well done
Very lovely Jill. Sound like you are going to be even busier.Cant wait to see your little all done. Amelia is a true fashionista 😊
Looking awesome Jill🎉
Thank you Jill😊
It all looks great Jill, the outside certainly suits the interior of the box as you said. When I think of Tudor houses I imagine they would be dark and smokey. Finding ‘stuff’ for miniature making is a contagious pursuit🤣🤣
It all looks fabulous - well done! 💐
You always make me laugh! I’m glad you had a nice lunch with your mom! And I must agree that Ralph does have very shapely legs 😉
Oh yes that's very sweet him saving bits for you, my husband does the same and it's very handy. I love everything you've shown, and sounds like you are going to have a very busy time ahead with sewing. Walter's friend is shaping up nicely, You have done a brilliant job! Thanks for sharing.
That material you used for the ruff is great - no hemming! I love that your husband “collects” “possibles” for you too - mine does the same- double dangerous in terms of storage! I just adore that fireplace! Looking forward to seeing Ralph cone into being. Glad you had a lovely lunch with your mum and also lovely weather. It’s very hot here - even in the woods! So concerning as we typically don’t get this level of heat until mid-August! But, what can one do but try and stay as cool as possible?! May it cool down soon! TFS, ❤
That was lovely thank you for sharing ❤😊
Thank you! 😊
❤😂fiddly 🎉😂
Absolutely
You love technical don’t you lol, the ruffle that Walter is wearing is gorgeous Jill, portraits l’ve seen of Elizabethan ladies are so beautifully crafted, not sure of how comfortable they were to wear, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
I think they would have employed the main swear word of the day "A Plague on You" when pricked by a pin. I start off all creative when I work then when I have to repeat something I think, some formal directions would be nice!!
Hello Jill, Walter looks great with his ruff it finishes his outfit off perfectly. I don't know how they could stand wearing them all day, they must have been hot, as well as prickly with all the pins. Have a lovely weekend. Best Wishes from Yorkshire, England 🇬🇧 😊
In those days I don't think heat was an issue. We never see paintings with them in wilted ruffs do we? They would catch the dribbles, the sweat and the odd crumb or two. I hope they changed them regularly!
Using the ready made lace and gathering it is ingenious Jill. Will try to remember this for future reference. The thread pulling takes me back to smocking baby and toddler clothes.
Yes, I seem to have been doing quite a bit of gathering and smocking lately. Never did it before.
Quite a fiddly business! Indeed! Amazing.
They might have been a bit ruff!
Clever, great instructor too. The ruff looks great. Hope the electrian isn't too expensive 😂.. Happy weekend crafting. I am just making my first doll.. Head and neck done.. Legs done.. Only the arms to go... Phew.. But waxeyes are calling.. Bye for now 😊
Thank you! 😊The trouble is I don't pay the electrician, the videographer or my IT work. All I have to do is stump up for an overseas holiday every two years. However, he is back on the job and just waiting for some stuff he has ordered online. So all good. How exciting. Making your first doll. Good on you.
Just put her in the oven, yes overseas parcels are exciting.. I got some miniature books from a second hand bookshop in England @@miniaturetimetraveller
Oh gracious Jill you are a better woman than I am. I don’t think I could ever do that collar for anything. That is amazing. Hope you get moved up in line with your electrician. 😊
I promised to cook him a roast chicken. That should help :)
Way to go!@@miniaturetimetraveller😂
Oh yes I think I have heard of her.
She was an amazing woman. Hugely influential. Well worth a Google search about her. Cheers, Jill.
I will look her up. Thank you Jill.💜
I think that this is the first one of these where I actually knew the answer. And I don’t know why I knew it.😂
Hi Jen. Those brain cells are marvellous things!! Regards, Jill.
Oh my gosh, I hope you know how amazing you are! You didn’t just figure out how to make one, you made three. All different styles. And they’re all beautiful! I never dreamed that Walter would be so handsome when he was a weird looking pipe cleaner body and head on a stick😂
Well, I suppose we all start out a bit weird looking! In my mind he was finished before he was started. ha ha.
@@miniaturetimetraveller 😂😂😂
Walter surely appreciates your skills and “fiddly-ness!” May your electrician come soon! It’s that 10 year training that needs reinforcing, right?! 😉 TFS, ❤️ Kathleen
Nearly 50 years! And, yes, definitely some reinforcement training required!!
Hi Jill, thanks so much for showing this because I do intend to make one! I would have not thought to make a template but obvious to me now that's the way to do it. Walter looks quite pleased. :) I do hope your electrician will come to the rescue. We can hardly wait!!
You are so welcome! Using a template will insure you get even pleating. My first attempt (you didn't see that) was a good example. Some discipline was needed on my part. Have fun doing yours.
Thanks for you figuring out so I wouldn’t have to 😆. Really, you’ve put a bit of time into this collars. What time frame were the Tudors in? My new piece is me figuring out a 1780-1800 or so, French parlor room! I’ve got some ideas &wallpaper & ceiling paper. Plus some fun furnitures. Still have to make some tables…Wish me success! Cheers❗️
Hello, The Tudor era is 1405-1603
The Tudors and the Elizabethans were around the 1600's. Then came James with his large collars and better looking pants, then your period. Did you know that the French turned their forks tines down on the table settings so they wouldn't snag their lacey cuffs?
Hi, the Tudors were around 1400-1600. My guy is in the 1600's. Then came James with his large collars and better looking pants. Then youir period. Did you know that in the 1700's the French turned the fines of their forks down in table settings so they would snag their lacy cuffs?
@@miniaturetimetraveller I did not know that about the forks! Interesting, is that when people started monogramming on the back of their silver? Thanks for teaching me something new today!
Very nice! Oooooh the possibilities, thanks' so much for sharing.
You are so welcome!
Wonderful work! He definitely looks like he is about to write a fabulous play or two any time now.
Hi Rona, yes, there is some Shakespearean likenesses there :) Regards, Jill.
I wonder if that scale still persists somewhere in the world today🤔
Hi Anika, still used a lot for toys I think. But, rarely for 'serious' dolls houses. Cheers from a very wet New Zealand! Jill.
1/18?? I did not even know that that was a thing
Gidday Jen. More for toys than dolls houses. Regards, Jill.
@@miniaturetimetraveller just thinking about it hurts my brain 😂
Walter cuts a quite figure, doesn’t he now? I try to imagine my man (who was not made in a week! ☺️) in these period clothes. I simply can’t picture it! Haha! His question would have been … was camoflouge lace an option?! Love your stories, impeccable work and charming humor! ❤ Kathleen
Main thing is we are all having fun!!
@@miniaturetimetraveller indeed and yes we are!
Walter looks like he is part of the landed gentry with all that lace and finery…or perhaps he came into money some other way??
I tell you a secret. I based him on Sir Walter Raleigh. There was such a distance between the haves and the have nots that we, as miniaturists, have to make a choice one way or another. The rich could afford lovely coloured materials.
Walter does strike quite a figure in his finery. My my how fashion has changed! It's fun to time travel this way. You did such a great job on all of it! I am quite perplexed as to how you got his boots on. The ebonizing sounds interesting, not familiar with that. Thanks so much for taking us along for the ride, makes my day. :)
I did try several ways to make the boots and in the end settled for my favourite, Fimo. I made them thinner and wider at the tops so I could fit in the legs and glued them in place.
Dashing..pants are amazing.. looking forward to tomorrow here in the 🇬🇧 ❤
I have decided on a friend and the best thing is that I think his pants will be better!!
Hello Jill, this is Susan from England. I love the personalities that you give your characters, their faces are so good. Which colour Sculpey do you use and do you use just tools to shape the face or do you add clay on e.g the ears and nose? I really found the lesson on making hands very useful because they are realistic but easy to make. Also do you make your own patterns for the clothes that you make the little people?
Hello Susan. I use a flesh coloured Sculpey always. I use my favourite tool with has a sccoped end and a pointed end and add on the ears (little Sculpey commas) and the nose (usually a small triangle). I sometimes make my own patterns but there are so many in the miniature books there is always one I can use. Hope this helps.
Watched the previous video Jill and Beacon Hill house is coming along beautifully, and Walter and his outfit look great too, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
Thank you.
Walter is coming along nicely
Ruffs next.
Hello Jill, Walter is looking very dashing, they were striking in their doublet and hose along with the huge lace ruff around their necks. It can't have been comfortable to wear being held together with pins 😬. Have a lovely rest of the week. Best Wishes from (a sunny for a change) Yorkshire, England 🇬🇧 😊
It is a wonder they didn't behave themselves more with the opposite sex with those constraints but I guess it is the challenge of it!! ha ha.
I love going along on this journey with you, Jill. It’s the stories and the history and, of course, the fine work you do that makes it all so special. Thanks for these lovely moments in my day!
Glad you enjoy it! It is always a journey for me as well as I am learning and adding to my experiences as I go along. I have always been into history and research and minis have given me this tremendous outlet. Quite unexpectedly.
Walters coming along really well very smart clothes but glad we don't have to dress like that now days! He and his friend will be able to sit over a drink and swap tales in that cosy room.Best wishes from Yorkshire Dales England.
Just thought maybe Edward drops in with his time travelling machine you never know!
Walter must be part of the landed gentry with all that lace and finery or perhaps he came into money by some means??? Hope the ebonising works out, it sounds interesting.
All the miniature scenarios I have loved and admired are scenes that I would like to be in. So I tend to make mine the same. I am so darn practical though. I have to stop myself worrying about toilets and drains and keep things nice!
I have been thinking about an interesting scenario when Edward has his house warming party.
Ooh.. Walter looks so handsome... Could give a girl hot flush 😅. Thanks for the hint about ebonizing... Think I should start a wee notebook with all the awesome ideas. 🎉🎉
Ebonizing. I picked up that hint from Salvage Hunters Restorers. If you use blackboard paint and Shellac on very small furniture it looks less glossy and more natural and soft looking. I think I will use wax on the room box as it is a bit more hard wearing. The notebook is a good idea. I start one, can't find it, start another and as a result I have them all over the place. Hope you are more disciplined.
@@miniaturetimetraveller lol definitely not disciplined, especially when it comes to crafts.
