How my very first Doll's House transformed my Life!
Day 100 of 'A Year in the Life Of a Miniaturist', my video record of my miniature journey over a year. Today sees me relocating the Steampunk Mansion to make room for another project, and sharing a deeply personal story about how my very first dolls house helped me deal with the consequences of the small stroke I experienced a few years ago. It is no exaggeration to say miniatures transformed my life! I hope it serves as an inspiration to others. Regards to all, and happy miniatures!

Glad you enjoyed it! Everyone would have their favourite little pieces. I can show mine off.
Ms Jill, first let me say I am sooo glad you are doing soo much better since your strock. Second, so very happy you found this hobby of doll house miniatures that you enjoy and it helped you. Third, Be blessed by God always. Enjoyed your video and your story. I love what you have done with the doll house. My favorite room is your library (the room with the chess table, fire place and chairs.) Every home should have such a beautiful library.

Oh, thank you so much for sharing your journey. I had a CVA (stroke) age 26 during routine surgery due to a nurse giving me a pill I was allergic to beforehand. I did not have anything like what you experienced, and I am in awe of how you took charge of your recovery and are such an amazing talent.

Thank you for sharing this Jill, it's a wonderful testimony of hope and encouragement. Each day is an opportunity to try. My sister had a stroke and is just home from hospital yesterday. I'm going to share this message with her, she is learning to walk again. Your dolls are especially amazing. I love the expressions on their faces, and the clothes suit them so well. You have an indomitable spirit that is reflected in your work and we're so grateful that you share that with us. All the tiny things, tiny crochet hooks, tiny drawers...it's just amazing!

I shared that so others know how marvelous our brains are and how we can come back from something like that. Every little step your sister takes will help going forward. The hardest part for her is that everyone will be telling her what to do!

@@miniaturetimetraveller Ha ha made me chuckle at that last part, so right! I told her about this video, she is in great spirits and thinking about what projects she can do now while sitting on the sofa. Thanks again! :)
Jill, thank you for sharing your story! I was so moved by your journey, including you taking the initiative with your own rehabilitation! You obviously had and continue to have incredible skills that result in extraordinary miniatures! It’s wonderful, too, that you and your family both enjoy your miniatures! Your story and creations continue to inspire and amaze me - even more so now, having listened to your healing journey! Thank you for sharing and continued good health to you! ❤ Kathleen

Kathleen, the medical profession is great but we know our bodies best. The only thing I'm not good at is sitting and doing nothing! Surprise!!

@@miniaturetimetraveller you are so right about the medical profession! I have had a lot of “interesting” encounters with various medical professionals the past 20+ years … and the best doctor I ever had said … “I don’t know what is going on with your body, but I’m here with you and will a,ways listen to you and support you as you know your body best. Let’s approach this together.” She was amazing! She has since retired. I still miss her - terribly! I actually CAN (and often do) “sit still” if the means laying in my hammock and reading while looking up at the 150+ trees it’s attached to here in our woods. If it’s too cool to do that, I just walk about 10 feet and I’m in my little art studio - where I’m more of a dreamer and putter-er with my miniatures, than a fine creator! Again, your story i remarkable, as are you and your amazing talents! Best, Kathleen
Im so pleased to hear how miniatures helped you with your recovery from your stroke, and having a supportive family helps too no end. I've lived with chronic illness for almost 30 years now and being able to continue being creative with miniatures has been a blessing when I am not physically up to doing much else some days. So I appreciate what a godsend this hobby...or should I say, Passion, can be! Funnily enough my husbands' friends in their 70's and 80's have now started bringing me their little findings and bits of flotsam and jetsam that they think I might be able to use in creating my minis. Who know grumpy old men could be so enchanted by dolls houses?

Nice to hear from you. Yep, miniatures are very healing. I used to build big houses and the tradesmen who came around loved to have a look through my studio. Big burly men oohing and aahing over something small. Gladdens the heart!
This is An Incredible Story Of Your Triumphant Journey to Recovery! Hearing this really was a Beautiful testimony of healing and personal discovery. Loved hearing about you to discovering the JOY of 12th scale Doll making too!!! I laughed when you mentioned about your son finding "food" cooking in the oven that was not edible!" This was Encouraging and inspirational! Thank you for Sharing!

We have a fantastic hobby. We are either stubborn and persistent to do it or we develop those qualities along the way. Great way to keep on an even keel.
I really admire you.
Kudos to you Jill for overcoming the effects of the stroke and for the perseverance to build your beautiful Georgian house. Your family must be so proud of you! It is a testament to your determination, skill and creativity that must provide you with hours and hours of pleasure as you revisit the process and amazing results👏👏👏 Thank you for sharing your story and showing us the treasures you have collected. Isn’t it amazing how each tiny object has a maker’s story attached to it whether it be who made it, how they made it and how it came to be in your ‘house’. The Beacon Hill house looks great in its new position but I’m a bit concerned that the courting couple may fall off the edge of the patio. OHS might pay a visit.🤣🤣

That is a wonderful story, Jill, & like the best stories, it’s touching & real. Your Georgian dollhouse is a labor of love, but it’s also fabulous. I used to have a “life-sized” writing desk that my dad (who was born in 1904 in Aust) gave me when I was very young - he had bought it from an auction & fixed it up for me. Anyway, your miniature one (I think you said made by John) is excellent, as is your special crochet hook - treasures indeed. The whole house is a charming & impressive collection of treasures. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, Renee. 🏠 🇦🇺 🦘

Hi Renee, that is the great thing about our houses isn't it. We can buy little treasures that give us joy when we look at them. Your Dad sounds like he was a great guy.
Wonderful to see your beautiful Georgian house and learn the story behind you entering the miniature world.Your determination to stay on the path back to good health using different techniques to teach yourself is inspirational and will help others.Miniatures are wonderful things to do anyway but I find you can just do little bits here and there when I'm feeling unwell with my health conditions and like now when I have an infected finger so can't do much, there are so many sources of inspiration to look at or read and ideas to file away for the future.Love the sewing table and the tiny crochet hook.We all love your videos!Best wishes from Yorkshire Dales England.

Thank you Robin. I don't in any way wish to glorify myself. Rather, if my story gives other stroke victims hope or direction I feel I have done a good thing. Our brains are marvelous things really. And you are right. You can always do a little thing with miniatures even when feeling ick. And then you get absorbed and it goes a long way to forgetting the ill. My mother stuck with miniatures until she could no longer feel through her fingertips and even then she would paint things for me.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m so glad you were stubborn & that you perseverance yielded such amazing results! I sustained a traumatic brain injury 4 years ago, and I’m still dealing with the effects, so this was particularly inspiring as I am your intended audience… while I always wanted to build/refurbish dollhouses, and I have always loved miniatures, I am new to making, collecting and decorating so I am Intimidated. I am trying not to become paralyzed with fear - I have 3 dollhouses to fix now, so I can’t let my family down. I’ve begun with kits & have fallen in love with this art. Thank you for being such a surprising beacon of hope by sharing your story. I look forward to exploring your channel! ❤

Dear Lola, I am pleased my story resonated for you. I can honesty say the benefits from working and concentrating on mini's were huge. I don't show folks my early work as it was just beginner level, but I had to start somewhere :) I can now look back over time and see the slow improvement. So don't worry what the initial items look like. It's the doing that matters, not the outcome. Practice makes perfect, and gets the brain exercising as well. Thinking back, I remember, when I first started making miniature vegetables, I made dozens and dozens of Fimo carrots until I actually made one that looked realistic. Touch base any time if you ever want suggestions or help on anything. Joining a club is a great thing to contemplate as well.
What an amazing inspiration you are ! How lovely of you to share your strength and determination! I think your wonderful and your miniature talent is brilliant, thank you so much for sharing your remarkable story! From London! ❤❤😊
