He plays Zyra like a skillshot mage moreso than a control mage. His combos have improved over the years, and ofc he has amazing Es and has good plant placement, but he could do more. If he took better advantage of his W uptime during laning phase and midgame, that would help improve his play even further than it already has. When he's engaging on Zyra, he's measuring the distance between himself and the enemy based upon his safety when he could instead be measuring the extent of his own threat range like Brand is in this video. Brand's face-checking bushes, gets lit up a bit, and will still turn around once someone is in range to drop the wombo. Zyra can do that with better range, especially when you're keeping seeds in play properly. I'll add that, again, his Zyra is really good, and it's only gotten better over the years. I used to avoid the Zyra videos, but he lands a lot of really good kills.

the pantheon is a classic case of "make sure you're right before you open your mouth or you end up looking like an absolute moron". the whole point of pushing lanes with towers when you have baron is to open up the base and get the inhib. the point of getting inhibs is spawning super minions to increase your map pressure so you get more objectives. you don't push lanes with downed inhibs unless you can end the game because the enemies are already there waiting to clear the supers. you push lanes without the downed inhibs so they have to split their resources to defend the siege and the supers (ideally you escort the supers to the base so they hit at the same time as the siege and then rotate for the siege) and then you get the remaining towers/inhibs more easily. you only siege with supers in lane once you're sure you can win the game or you can 1v2 the defenders because otherwise it's a waste of time just standing there with supers throwing poke at an enemy that can run back to fountain and heal up in 10s. the pantheon thought he was real smart by saying that oh they get 2 inhibs worth of supers of gold and exp, which is like, the reason you don't get inhibs too early since you can't capitalise on the pressure. but once you can capitalise on the pressure, like getting more objectives or jungle control, the amount of gold and exp they're getting doesn't matter nearly as much as he thinks it does.

If I remember correctly, her plant damage doesnt really scale with your AP, so its better to get DPS/Haste items on her if you are aiming for more damage. But your other spells still hits hard tho

A trick that I used on zyra back when she was one of my mains- though I am iron league nowadays- was to drop a W right on the enemy, after spellcasts, when it looked like I was about to hit. There's kind of a window when you know you're going to hit or not, and W at least used to be zero mana, so unless you're saving up for an ult combo you really want it to always be on cooldown. I also extremely preferred Q plants to E plants. E plants might hit harder I think, but often the enemy is rooted right next to it and autos it down immediately, whereas a Q plant gets a couple shots off, or at least helps push. This strategy isn't the best for lane management, but it pokes people out of lane REAL fast. (I think plants spawned by Q will immediately prioritize champs that the Q hit)

I also really liked a second point in W early (like 5 or 7), or even keeping it even with E. But it's been balanced a lot since then I'm sure. I just remember the second point was enough of a cooldown reduction, combined with buffing the plants, that it squeezed more power out of her passive in the early game.

For real, mid to late is a cluster. Not that I don't screw it up a lot too, but just having a plan and sticking to it is huge mid game on. Only tip I'd give is that when you know where the enemy team is and you don't have any immediate use for your plants(such as fighting enemies), drop your seeds nearby. Seeds are only limited by their cooldown and having more seeds already placed before the start of a fight is always bonus advantage. You should generally be at 1/2 charges at all times except right before a fight.
