[作画 MAD/AMV] Vehicle (乗り物) Sakuga

A small compilation of cuts that I like in which land vehicles play an important role, since there is nothing more satisfying than seeing a vehicle well animated by hand frame by frame.

What is Sakuga?
Sakuga (作画) literally means drawing.
It is not something specific like "super spectacular animation", but the term is used to define a well animated sequence and that's it, good animation.
Animation is fundamentally movement, so a sequence with good movement is already good animation / sakuga, the effects and uses of cinematography are only added to the base.

The magic of 2D animation is the imperfection of the animators, as they cannot maintain perfect consistency and each has their own way of animating and generating their own distinction (Their own interpretation of design sheets, background animation, timing and application of effects)

Animating vehicles by hand is not easy at all, so all these animators really have very good training and skill. Some clarifications: * I don't like the CGI, so all the clips are only of vehicles made in 2D animation, without exception. * I really love the 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT-500 from Gunsmith Cats OVA #02. * Yoshida's cut at 03:16 is my favorite vehicle animation and I consider it perfect in every way. * The vehicles in the video are exclusively terrestrial, later I will make one of flying vehicles. * To be honest I wanted to use a rock song for this but I couldn't find one long enough to fit many clips, so I opted for Redline's Yellow Line.

The guy behind Redline wouldn't release the movie until he was 100% happy with it...I believe it took almost a decade and nearly bankrupted the studio. The movie's plot is so-so but the visuals are at 110% the whole way through

Well, Masao Maruyama gave Takeshi Koike the opportunity to do whatever he wanted with the film, which is why it took 7 years (4 pre-production and 3 production). Concise details about Redline's production are hard to find, but Koike once mentioned that fewer than 20 people worked on the entire film (I imagine Madhouse interns) and it's well known that Koike did extensive corrections as Animation Supervisor, so that's why his style is the one that stands out the most in the entire feature film. I also want to mention that in the behind the scenes you can see that figures of the vehicles and robots were produced, which the animators took as a reference as well as the mechanical sheets to be able to carry out the meticulous and demanding animation of the film. Redline is a unique piece of art and it's very unlikely that something like that will be repeated.

Thanks! I'm glad the video generated positive reactions. It was my first video on a specific topic and I made it mainly because a guy commented that it would be great if I made a video about vehicles. In retrospect there are many things I would change to add other amazing sequences that I didn't know about at the time, but I will most likely make a continuation of this video in the future:)

@@bm001 It still proves the point of being hard work. Also, You should be more specific what do You mean by CG anime - 3D works or everything (digital drawings and 3D)? If it's the first, I think Studio Orange did good job with modelling, especially with Houseki no Kuni adaptation. Other thant that, Uchuu Senkan Yamato remakes have nice battle scenes, but... As You mentioned before, 3D is cheap. If they tried to pull this scenes with hand drawn, it would take much more resources (including time) to finish it. Madhouse almost went bankrupt because of how long it took them to work on Redline. So yeah, it's kind of obvious for using CG (which also become more popular in western animation), since only big studios can afford doing higher quality animation.

The last time I made comparisons of different sources available on Nyaa was at the beginning of last year and the best was from a user called Iznjie Biznjie, who uses the USA BD as a source. They are a little heavy files (5GB per episode and extras), but it is very worth it for the great quality it has This is the link: nyaa.si/view/1412580

All the names of the series are in the description, I have also added the option of subtitles in English and Japanese with the names of all the series. You can go back or forward frame by frame Frame Advance: Press the " . " Key / Rewind frame: Press the " , " key Remember, animation is not made to pause as animation is made up of the entire sequence of drawings that create the illusion of movement, so there is no point in evaluating the "quality" of animation based on an individual drawing. Even so, I highlight the option to move forward and back frame because it is always interesting to see the animator's work in each particular drawing, in addition to helping a lot to understand how his work works.

should check out the OVA "You're Under Arrest!" (逮捕しちゃうぞ!)it's got some really great detailed vehicle animations. there's a series as well but i couldn't get through the first 4 episodes after how high the OVA set the bar. they basically gave up on drawing cars in the anime.

When I made this video, I only knew one sequence that Takeshi Honda did for the first OVA, but now I know many more awesome vehicle animation sequences. I would say that the OVAs are a benchmark for well-crafted vehicle animation, just like Gunsmith Cats

When I made this video I had the mentality of not using extremely well-known sequences, mainly because I thought it would be repetitive for viewers. Currently I consider that this was a mistake since I omitted many incredible works and therefore, many new people did not have their approach to those sequences Cagliostro in general is something that I want to consider a lot for my next videos (focus on Telecom animators), since historically it is a very important film due to the approach of transferring Disney's full animation to Japanese animation, although at this moment it is not clear to me if the American animators trained to the majority of Telecom animators before or after this movie
