    Most of us are aware of popular R20 features such as the 4.3-inch LCD color touch screen and the onboard synthesizer. However, there are many other notable features of the unit that are often overlooked and shouldn’t be. I wanted to share some of them with anyone interested, in hopes that this information serves useful. Thanks for watching.

    Great vid. I’ll watch the others, so if you address this question in those vids no need to reply: Can you mix down to the units SD card (to Wav. file for Eg)? I would like to use the unit to mix down our live recordings without having to export files a PC/Mac via USB , then simply plug the SD card into my Mac and share the files from there. Ie NO wires and extra connectivity steps :)

    This is a really well done video and very helpful. I have an unusual question. Could I use this as a pseudo guitar multi-effects processor at home for jamming? For example, could I plug in my electric guitar to the R20 and turn on an effect 1 at a time or multiple effects at once? I.e - chorus, delay, OD, gate? The reason I’m asking is that I would like to play multi effects with my guitar through powered speakers connected to the R20- and of course do some recording as well. Trying to kill two birds with one stone. Any advice?

    Love the fact that Zoom and Tascam are still updating their hardware MTRs, but I really do feel that Zoom have missed the mark with the R20. Firstly the inputs seem a bit strange, with 6 x XLR - I can see that this would make sense for miking up a drum kit etc, but how many people who are that dedicated to drum sound are going to be using a 'cheapish' MTR? I would have thought a larger market for the device would be the home studio/amateur band, where more phono jacks would make sense. Whilst the Midi track seems a great idea, it's a shame that it can't be used to play external instruments, as the onboard sounds are mediocre at best. Lack of battery power also seems a bit of an oversight, though the recently announced R12 brings this back. I really want to like this, but think Zoom's own L12 and L8 make much more sense. Now if only Tascam would bring back Midi to the DP range 😄

    Not going to want really though? Any DAW will have superior effects options and additional plug ins will go even further. The main concern would be how many multitrack simultaneous and is the compression enough using a dynamic mic to capture between -18 & -10 with minimal noise or will you still need a cloud lifter or soyuz or something to boost the signal.

    I own this unit and I got it partly because I wanted to hook it up to my mpc one. The problem was that although the M pc one recognized it... For some reason I was not able to get it to play through it. I couldn't get the audio to work with it. In contrast I hooked the tascam model 12 up and had no problem. If you have an MPCI would definitely go with the model 12 or 1 of the variants like the model 24. I'm still gonna keep this for when I decide to record it friends as houses and staff other field recording but it's it it's disappointed me that it couldn't be synced with the mpc.

    I don't own a DAW, but I have the R20. It would seem to me that you'd simply need to record a part on track 1, slide that track to track 2, then record another part on track 1. You could pan the tracks left or right at any time...before or after you record the tracks.

    Good evening, I recently acquired my R20, but when using it as an interface on the computer, the sound I recorded in my DAW does not come out on the audio monitors, it only comes out through the headphone output. This device is supposed to work like this or this is a factory defect? I'm finding it strange that when I use it without the computer the sound comes out normally on the audio monitors. I'm from Brazil, and here you still don't hear much about the R20.

  • @PowercoatMusic

    @PowercoatMusic

    Жыл бұрын

    If I'm understanding your question correctly, the answer is that when connected and recording on a DAW this makes sense. The reason being that since the tracks aren't actually recorded on the R20, it has nothing internally to playback. The recorded tracks come from the DAW back through USB, which is routed to the headphones so you can hear it. If you record on the R20, you should then be able to hear those tracks from the R20's outputs. If anyone else has different information on this, please chime in any corrections/updates. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿

    Ive had this unit for about a week now but Im planning to return it. Currently, Im using GarageBand on my iPad and Mac. Although this unit is a stand alone unit, I still feel it has too many similarities to using a DAW. It has a screen and you can edit etc, so I feel its just redundant and money wasted since they do things too similar. I thought I would bring it with me when Im away at work, but I can basically do that with my iPad, so how would I really be any further ahead. In the future, I would like to get either the Tascam 24 or 32 and go old school. Thanks for the great videos and information. Any thoughts on my situation and what I've said ??

    Great video! But right here... just the foolish steps involved to rig a footswitch for "stop and start record" (which SHOULD come already configured with footswitch), underscores why I still absolutely HATE modern multi-track recorders! This is a major engineering design oversight - unless you're lucky enough to be an octopus! -- It's the 21st century! Yet nobody can design a single-user, plug & play multi-track recorder without cumbersome design flaws that demand jumping through hoops by first "setting up this" and "pairing that" or "configuring the OS!" Never mind my artsy brain is in a fleeting/inspirational mode - so by the time I finally get everything setup and ready to record, I've lost all the creative mood and desire to try and capture that magical lightning in a bottle. -- I keep asking... when will companies like Zoom, Tascam and Boss get it?! I want to create, not flip back and forth between musician and sound engineer! :p (My 2 cents...)
