That's more than ok for a modeling processor unit, I admit that. It still lacks that room and sparkling and kicking of a valve head though! I guess that it might be ok for the studio....

Well, in my case and opinion, yes. It's all I need to do 2hat I need. It's simple, easy to use, and, ir you activate the micro options when you play Your sound, it's amazing. Pure rude sound. I love it. check Aldo the New G6. 🤘🤘🤘

If youre still interrested, usually you use pedals like ovdrdrives and distortions first, then your preamp and cab section and then your modulating pedals like reverb and delay :)

I still feel that the original Zoom G5 is inherently better than its successor, the G5N. Here are my reasons why: 1. The Z-Pedal. I don't know about you guys but I myself have seen a lot of potential in the Z-Pedal that was on the G5. Being able to combine various pedal effects into single patches was the reason why I managed to save a lot of money on effect pedals to this day. Seeing that they removed this feature kinda really makes me sad because I was hoping that they would retain this feature for the G5N. 2. The screens. In studio and practice this won't matter much; however in live performances for people who have bad vision (like myself), we need to have a good view of the pedal board line-up during the show. The original G5 actually had screens which showed a visual view of the individual pedals that were lined up in its exact order, and seeing that the screens were made a lot smaller in the G5N kinda makes me doubt as to whether I should upgrade or not because smaller screens equal a higher chance of hitting the wrong pedal at the wrong time (maybe excluding the expression pedal). 3. XLR output. For people like myself who still use this type of output (yes, I still use this), the G5N may be a bit of a turnoff as I now have useless cables that are put to waste. Otherwise, the G5N's amp/drive quality is better than the G5; however for practicality I would always turn back towards the G5 if I need to go into live performances.

@bill premo i have a G5 as well and contemplating on upgrading. i had no use for the z-pedal, if anything, it was annoying as hell. it was hard to control and felt silly twisting my leg side to side. the better solution was to get a second pedal and plug it in for the effect you wanted on the z-pedal. the screens arent a big deal. although i wish that the screen on the g5n was larger and the backlight better. it does look hard to look at on stage. while i agree about the xlr cable, you can get an xlr to 1/4 adapter on ebay. the BIGGEST reason to upgrade is the TONE. the sounds seem much better, compared to the fizzy and fake sounding g5. i tried recording with my g5 and it was a pain in the butt to get something sounding good. i was going to replace the damn thing with a kh103 or trirec or dual dark.

While I agree that the amp sims on the G5n are superior to that of the G5, I myself don't use them. As for me, I just use it for the wah, pitch shifter and the Tube Screamer overdrive for my Randall RM50 tube amp. The main reason why I like the G5 is because of the flexibility of access to the wah and the pitch shifter at the same time, mostly because of the fact that the Digitech Whammy DT isn't even close to affordable for me at this time, and even if I can afford it, sadly none of the stores near my area sell any of them. I myself am a power metal musician, and because of this I need the access to BOTH the wah AND the pitch shifter at the same time, which the G5n unfortunately does not offer. I have tried to get the second expression pedal to work on the multi-effects processors I've had (G5 and G3X), NEITHER of them recognized the expression pedals that I tried to use on them (I've tried an M-Audio expression pedal and a Boss expression pedal). So far, the only luck I've had with the external footswitch is the FS-5U for the tap tempo delay for the G3X in my effects loop. Until I get the budget to upgrade my gear I am forced to work with what I have, and even then I really wish that Long and McQuade had started importing more Digitech Whammy DT's into their stores.

G5n is better than G5 on amps/effects. There's no XLR cuz most ppl dont use it and you still get a great sound via P10 cable

Why does my G5N sound so fizzy? On every YT video the amps simulations sound so tight and real, there's no loose 'echo', but my 5GN sounds very fizzy and too digital, like a cheap scooped Metal Zone copy.

I'm interested in buying some of your patches as they sound fantastic. I just wanted to know whether the patches were created playing in front of an amp or into a PC? I've set mine up to play through monitors so would I need to make any adjustment to the patches you created? Thanks

the biggest reason to upgrade is the tones. the g5 has fuzzy tones that sound fake. this one sounds a lot better.

i owned a G2 and presently own an HD500. in all honesty, there are pros and cons to both: zoom is super clear and easy to use, with smartly designed tone building, efx are easy to mix in the tone BUT it can feel as lacking options (depending on your "tone nerding" factor i'd say) and always feels overcompressed on all sims (although these amp sims in the G5 are a great step forward from the G2 modeling, sonically speaking). on the other hand, the pod has more advanced modeling, BUT it's super complicated, with flexible routing and lots of options. sadly it's also very unclear in tone building. example: there are several signal paths going on at once (the guitar signal enters as mono, is then split into two stereo paths so you get 4 signals going on, which are then re-summed into mono or kept as stereo depending on the efx you are using, even if you're physically going out mono. and every single simulation sounds different depending on its position in this routing. clear, isn't it?). speaking of lack of user-friendly clarity, above all, EQs are not specified in kind. there are % instead of hz, basically you have to re-engineer the whole unit to get to know what you are doing. also, efx are very hard to mix in perfect balance in your tone, something which i found very fast and clear in zooms. wrapping up: do you want a few options but very clear and easy to use, sounding just as they sound? get the zoom. on the other hand, do you want pretty much infinite options, sounding a little better but complicated as hell and with a lot of nerding involved? get the pod, but prepare to have a lot of nightmares.

Between this and the Boss ME-80 what would you prefer?

You need some sort of amplification, you don't need to have actual guitar amp since there are some amps and cabs sims build in the unit, but it does not have amp section. You can connect it directly to PC or a P.A system.

wow, I can't believe technology has gotten to the point where you can spend less than $500USD and get a complete guitar amp setup (this and an Alto TS210 for example). Does anyone know how the G5n sounds through an FRFR like the TS210?

Bought this one and it's crap..I have two helix connected together they are the real thing...the zoom g5n is screaming 😱..and almost all the effects are the same..it's for beginners..and I would tell them to throw the zoom g5n to the garbage 🗑
