*Question of the Episode: What first of its kind or only one of its kind exhibits have you seen?:* 1. Dallas Zoo's Giants of the Savanna (U.S. Zoo that mixes elephants and giraffes) 2. Houston Zoo's Galapagos 3. Monterey Bay Aquarium's Kelp Forest (first successful living kelp forest) 4. Cincinnati Zoo's World of the Insect (First U.S. large scale insect house in a zoo) 5. Indianapolis Zoo's Dolphin Dome 6. Georgia Aquarium's SHARKS / Ocean Voyager (Tiger and Whale Sharks in mainland U.S.) 7. Cleveland Zoo's African Elephant Crossing (let's elephant walk in between guests) and I'm sure there's more *To make sure there’s no confusion…* As usual, the next *full length episode* is revealed at the end of this tour, but it will not be the next released video. Instead, you’ll see a relaxing 10 minute stationary video of the aquarium’s Open Sea, all three of the Monterey tours combined as one, along with an intro/rating video to our next destination the week after that. I’ll be filming in San Diego pretty soon, so this schedule is my way of being able to focus on that. *Species List (That I recall)* 1. Bloodbelly Comb Jelly 2. Mauve Stinger 3. Purple Lipped Jelly 4. Crown Jelly 5. Abyssal comb Jelly 6. Common Siphonophore 7. Lobed Comb Jelly 8. Snakehead Eelpout, Deep-sea Carnation Coral, Armored Sea Cucumber, Mushroom Soft Coral, Droopy Sea Pen, Predatory Tunicate 9. Giant Isopod 10. Brisingid Sea Star 11. Pacific Hagfish 12. Red Rope Coral 13. Feather Star, Branched Tree Coral, Bubblegum Coral, Deep Sea Cauliflower Coral, Red Sea Fan, Mushroom Soft Coral 14. Lumpfish 15. Australian Ghost Shark, Japanese Spider Crab, Big Roughy, Fragile Pink Sea Urchin, Japanese Armorhead, Longspine Thornyhead, Red Sea Star, Sablefish, Shortspine Thornyhead 16. Giant Deep Sea Isoopod 17. Bone Eating Worm *The Best Article I Could Find on Into the Deep:* www.atlasobscura.com/articles/into-the-deep-the-journey-to-bring-amazing-deep-sea-animals-to-the-surface *Whalefall Webcam:* www.montereybayaquarium.org/animals/live-cams/spider-crab-cam *Full Aquarium Species List from December 2022:* www.zoochat.com/community/threads/monterey-bay-aquarium-roster-as-of-12-07-2022.486175/ *Monterey Bay Aquarium Website:* www.montereybayaquarium.org/ *Map:* www.montereybayaquarium.org/visit/aquarium-maps *Facts, Firsts, & Aquarium Records:* www.montereybayaquarium.org/newsroom/media-kits/facts-and-figures

When Tropic World first opened, I got to visit the zoo a couple years after it opened and I think at the time it was largest rainforest exhibit in the United States.

Anyways have you been to southwick’s zoo before? If you have not, then it will probably be new to you. BTW if you ever do video tour of southwick’s zoo, do it in summer because that time you will see more animals there.

The “only one of its kind exhibit” I saw was at a small-ish aquarium called “Adventure Aquarium” in Philly. I was blown away by being able to walk over sharks by crossing a rope bridge they have over the tank.

This was so cool! It looks like something right out of "Blue Planet", with creatures I recognize from thier deep sea episode. I never thought there would be an aquarium that would house such animals, given the cold temperatures and high water pressures they live in. Now this just gives all then more reason to visit this aquarium one day. Thanks again for the tour Zack, and see ya in the next one.

I love the Monterey Bay Aquarium! Your tour of this aquarium has been great. But remember that it is a Sea Jelly and not a Jelly Fish. That is something I learned at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Thanks for this three part tour.

The first one of a kind exhibit i remember outside of Monterey itself was the old Steinhart aquarium at the cal academy of science. Before it's makeover i remember loving their old round-about tank (nostalgic memories 😢).

The ghost shark is part of a group of cartilaginous fish called chimeras which appeared alongside the first true sharks some time around the Devonian. This group of fish would continue to diversify through out the carboniferous and permian. A few species are even theorized to have survived into the triassic. Unfortunately members like the ghost shark and rat fish are some of the few members of this dynasty still alive today.

Say, Zak, hope you're ready to visit the San Diego Zoo Safari Park very soon! And here are 3 zoo trivia questions for you & your girlfriend.... 1) What new exhibit is the San Francisco Zoo expecting to house their Andean Condor? 2) How many giant pandas from China are coming back to the San Diego Zoo? 3) What year did the San Francisco Zoo originally house blackbucks?

There are more than whalefall exhibits out there on YT! In the Gulf of Mexico, scientists have conducted alligator & pig falls with deceased animals! And it’s amazing the animals that show up.. from giant isopods and bone worms to the octopi, snailfish, hagfish, and even just the multicolored bacteria that stains the sea floor surrounding the carcass.
