    This is my favorite zoo. It is indeed underrated. It is so well themed and immersive. It is also clean, affordable, and easy to explore the whole zoo, including breaks, meals, and rides, in one day. They also are always adding things, this summer a new red panda exhibit and a ropes course coming in the fall.

    I remember visiting the Ft.Wayne zoo when i was younger didn't really remember much of the zoo.So for the 4th of July i deiced to visit the zoo. I had fun wasn't to hot and humid to walk around the zoo mild weather. love the sting ray exhibit seeing the rays glide past you in the aquarium,i liked when some of the rays would come next to you to let you touch their smooth rubbery skin. The Ft.Wayne not a bad zoo for kids and adults to get out and interact with the animals the Ft.Wayne I've been to few zoo that aren't as good as the Ft.Wayne .

    Fort Worth Zoo is getting African Leopards in its upcomping expasion in 2023 called the Hunters of Africa and Asia, they specifically listed the African Leopard (Panthera pardus pardus) and not the Amur Leopard(Panthera pardius orientalis) so that is really cool, Houston Zoo has one as recently as 2016 but in my 2018 and 2021 visits the African Leopard was gone from Houston

    Impressive... most impressive. It's great to see the animals getting a lot of space to roam. I love the way that kopje section is set up, definitely going to steal that idea for Planet Zoo. And this ended up being a very educational episode! I didn't know about the symbiotic relationship between warthogs and mongooses, or about the scarcity of African leopards/abundance of Amur leopards in captivity. It's good that the critically endangered species is getting more focus.

    I'm honestly very much surprised on how underrated this exhibit is. Many US zoo's African themed exhibits suffer from bare, dry savannah habitats and having the same old boring species over and over again. Most of the exhibits here is lush and full of life, and had a perfect balance of popular animals (Giraffes, Zebras, and Lions) and unique ones (Mongoose, Sitatungas, and many bird species outside of Ostriches). It may not have a lot of staple popular african animals (Rhinos, Elephants, or Hippos), but seriously, this exhibit really needs a lot of recognition from how immersive and unique it is compared to many African themed exhibits of US zoos.

    Very Interesting! I live slightly over 1 hour drive away from Ft. Wayne but in my 50+ years of living have never visited this zoo:-( Live in Ohio and frequent Columbus and Cincinnati zoos which are actually farther away. I had NO IDEA how large this zoo is. I always imagined when hearing "Children's zoo" it was more of a small petting zoo. BOY WAS I WRONG! YOU REALLY SOLD THIS ZOO FOR ME! THANKS!

    @@deanonessimo4052 I’m not too sure about replacing, but an expansion does sound like a good idea! Still, it may take awhile to raise the money. But some progress is better then no progress!

    @@andrewb6194 it is on the small size, but I wouldn't say way too small. 1,500-3,000 square feet is rather standard for an amur Leopard in the AZA, especially with proper height.

  • @andrewb6194

    @andrewb6194

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@neilchace1858 perhaps, but it is important to note that leopards still do need some space. In the wild, there territory’s can range up to 20 miles (though it’s typically under that). So they wouldn’t need an enclosure as large as what a lion would need, but still something sizable (I’d say an acre minimum) I’d still say something like what Yorkshire Wildlife Park or Bjørneparken is the best ways to go. Tons of vertical and horizontal space, but there’s many ways you can go about it!

    I'm not a big fan of that Savanna exhibit. It's not that they need more species, but it wastes space to only have species very common in zoos in such a large exhibit.
