    Good review, and sensible "be aware of's". This plane has brought me both joy and pain. Flying with goggles makes this tiny unit shine. I consider building somethin a bit larger and slower to reuse the tech - kopilot and vc400 is solid. Thank you for sharing this.

    I’ve got the zohd dart 250 g and with my crossfire receiver I have been approximately about 3 kilometres out and only turned around because I had very little reception into my goggles, intermittently receiving a signal, great flyer, fairly fast yet also good duration of flight time. They certainly make some great products for the price and I would recommend them to anyone who wants a great fpv plane. The intermittent reception was probably because I was a little bit low and there may have been a bit of interference from some other signal source, otherwise I’d have gone further out. This one looks pretty good as well, might get one some day soon. Good review on this nice slow gentle flyer.

    I have removed both wing servo connectors and all the bits running into the fuse, simply used the supplied y-lead and soldered two male servo connectors on the servo leads. The original connectors are too flimsy and will bend in time as mine did and a pin broke off, lucky I was home and not ready to launch so I did the mod and all great.

    Lee, as your usual, a very detailed video. The Kopilot is a great flight aid and good value. There are a couple of areas that can trip up some users. One is the servo controls “order” especially for the PWM kits where connector pins have to be switched around to match the Kopilot “order”. You have covered this before but is easily overloaded. Another, is the redo of the radio calibration when Tx trims have been adjusted to fix manual flight mode. And third, is about how to best set the Rx Failsafe option. That it will resort to RTH mode if ever the radio signal fails. You have covered all of these points. I only suggest extra emphasis when you might do another Kopilot review. Cheers....

    Metal push rod to carbon fiber I might do that to save a few grams and toss the magnets. For long range it’s okay to use tape or something lighter by a tad bit. Matek and RunCam no rudder is okay, lion. 5.8ghz something over 600mw and under 8grams. :)

    Have now flown it with minimal wind and found it performed auto takeoff flawlessly and have tested stabilised mode with 2S configuration and using CG at marks works fine - I have rotated the tail into alignment - filed off a bit of the collar and used chewing gum to fix gap - works well. However on switching to manual (at rest this is all aligned with no elevator and it dives for the ground - wasnt game to see what happened next ? so back to auto - Is the CG marks wrong?

    I presume that by now you've got yours either working or replaced in the very unlikely event that you got a dead one. The RC Groups forums thread on the Kopilot is a great resource and has shown that 99% of the "It doesn't work!" yelps about it are due to 1 of 2 possibilities. 1 (Not applicable to ZOHD stuff) The Kopilot IS picky about the ESCs it will work with - or rather the other way round. Some ESCs object to the protracted start-up process of the Kopilot and shut down before it is completed. 2 Operator error in the set-up! The good news is that this thing seems bullet proof to the 101+ ways to plug it in wrong. And on the 4 we have we've tried 'em all at least once before getting it right! I'd go easy on powering it backwards or plugging it into the mains though! 😜

    How/where would you mount the Crossfire Immortal T antenna on the Drift?

  • @samurphy

    @samurphy

    2 жыл бұрын

    The Immortal T is the exact same active elements as the whisker antenna. Use a whisker and tape it down in the recommended V configuration to the fuselage and you'll get the exact same range. The immortal Ts are best for quads where you're more likely to chop them or get the stuffed in the ground.

    Mr. Painless, Did your Drift have a misaligned tail section when you built it ? I just built mine but the tail section locks in a misaligned position. I bought a Baby Ratel 2 cam and an Eachine Nano v2 vtx, also have the Kopilot lite and a ZOHD 30ESC Lite series. This will be my very first FPV installation. My question relates to the OSD. The vtx has a green cable labeled RX and the camera has a 2 pin connector with a black ground cable and a green OSD cable. The camera comes with a separate OSD “joystick board” that connects to this 2-pin connector on the camera. Should I just use this OSD joystick and not use the green RX cable on the vtx at all, just remove the cable?

  • @Painless360

    @Painless360

    Жыл бұрын

    The green cable from the VTX is there so it can be controlled from a flight controller (band, power level, channel etc.). If you are not connecting that to a flight controller then remove it and it should have a button on it to change those things. The two wires on a camera that plug into the little joystick are for settings on the camera only. Things like dynamic range, white balance and signal type (PAL or NTSC)...

    @@Painless360 This is the first R/C plane I've had but I've a basic understanding of aeronautics (I had a PPL many decades ago!). I think I've followed the set up steps. Please could you tell me what you mean by "set up" as I may be thinking of something else! "At rest" the elevators and ailerons are all neutral. I've put it into stabilised mode, checked this is working and launched off a slope; it just cartwheels. Same with RTH mode. It will fly straight and level on a small hand launched glide from the bottom of the slope with no power but on a longer glide further up the slope it again starts to cartwheel. The fore/aft balance is just a little nose heavy (as suggested by RagtheNutsoff).Could the whole thing be out of alignment although I put it together following the the instructions and it's hardly complicated! I'm only attempting to fly on calm days. I live on an island near Auckland in NZ and there aren't any flying clubs on the Island I could tap into. Any hints or advice would be very welcome.

    What position did you end up having the Aileron and Elevator KoPilot Lite calibration potentiometers set to ? Knowing an approximate "value" would be really useful before I maiden my Drift. Also, what power level did you operate the ZOHD VC400 at ? The manual warns about possible overheating if operating at the higher power levels. Thanks for the excellent video that convinced me to try a Drift as my first FPV fixed wing.

    A LOT OF BOTHER sums up this foamy. Oddly mine was bought having watched this video but like many supplied by Bangood it came with the tail rotated several degrees in vertical plane in clockwise direction - corrected by some filing / plus the wing connections took a lot of mucking about before working - see rc forums. Have not maidened yet as there is quite a lot of to/fro about CG. Additionally and skipped in the video is how to set up the kopilot - it needs the rubber in the channels selection and I have had trouble getting the kopilot stabilization to work - and on removing the control the auto stabilization is very minimal - again not sure why.
