That was an interesting plot device that the "Smallville" writers came up with, and I loved it. The idea that Jor-El built a gateway in the Zone, and it could only be activated by his family's blood, was genius writing.

Kandor was a city on the planet Krypton; in the comics, it survived the destruction, but was eventually shrunk by Brainiac, along with its citizens. For a time, Superman kept the bottled city in the Fortress, looking for a way to restore it.

mostly because people just assumed it was just soap opera drama(which a lot of superman comics had) and it deviated from comic(honestly Smallville was very faithful, taking elements from different comics and no less faithful than any other superhero adaption) and the fact that this show lasted 10 years and people really wanted to see Clark fly in the Superman costume.

Does anybody else find something weird about Jor-El saying the earthlings will be doomed if the Kryptonians are sent there? Also in the original Superman movies (which are largely respected even in the comics, if not canon), it was firmly established that Krypton had no death penalty, and not because of the Phantom Zone. That was said in both the Donner and Lester cuts.

There is no death penalty *because* of the Phantom Zone. Jor-El is the one that discovered it, and the council put it to use in place of the death penalty. Chances are this was before the time that Jor-El discovered it, and they started using it.

I think they mess up with the actor age since the flashback takes place around the mid to late 60's but in season 3 Jor-el came to earth in 1961 and looked like he just got out of high school. This Jor-el looks like he could have an adult kid. Kind of feel they picked an older actor so Clark could have the father feeling. Would have been hard if his father looked as young as him. Another option would have been have the actor be Jor-el father. Him going to the fortress would be interesting.

Wait, hold on a second! I thought there was no death penalty on Krypton, but eternal banishment to the Phantom Zone. That was what we learned from Lara's hologram in the Lester cut of Superman 2, and it was brought up again in 2013's Man of Steel.

Rogol Zaar was created by Jor-El and was responsible for destroying Krypton along with Empress Gandelo of the Trilium Collective.Decades later, he invaded the Fortress of Solitude and destroyed Kandor. Following a series of battles with Superman and Supergirl, the Girl of Steel used a Phantom Zone Projector to send Zaar to the Phantom Zone.

True that there is irony here with Jor-EL saying that Kryptonians would destroy Earth. The reason why Jor-El was comfortable sending Kal-EL to Earth was because he had safeguards in place. First, it was planned for him to be raised by the Kents and to have a compassionate upbringing, Second, Jor-El irradiated the Orb with blue Krpytonite to take away his powers should he ever decide to go bad, The Kandorians on the other hand are Military and would see it as easy to conquer Earth.

I never saw the Kryptonians as truly superior; they just thought they were. They still had the same egos and prejudices as humans, as evidenced by the entire Council denying Jor-El's disaster predictions. Their reliance on monumental technology made it easier to reject their concerns for others.

No , Terrence Stamp who played General Zod in Superman II plays the Voice of the Jor-El AI in the Fortress of Solitude and Archive Footage from that Film was used for the disembodied Phantom Zod after being exorcized from Lex . Michael Rosenbaum played Phantom Zod possessing Lex and Callum Blue played the Cloned Major Zod who was later self-promoted to General , sent to the Phantom Zone by Clark , possessed by Phantom Zod & made a deal with Darkseid for power , thus becoming pure evil !

@TheShockMaster Lana has left the show so much of the drama that was around in earlier seasons is gone. Are they focusing more on Superman? They have been greatly exploring Clark's Kryptonian heritage since season 6-7. Also he he adopted a secret identiy using the "S" shield known as "The Blur" since he runs and can't fly yet. Lois knows Clark's secret and they are a couple so it's like classic 90's Lois & Clark sort of. It's the final season so it won't be long until he becomes Superman.

Watch 2013's Man of Steel; Russel Crowe does a pretty good job as Jor-El. I defnitely like his portrayal better than Brando's. In the Donner cut of Superman 2, I didn't care for the scene where Jor-El was borderline harsh on Kal just for wanting one thing for himself, nor did I like the way his hologram gave Lois one hell of a side eye while Kal was being restructured and depowered.
