they don't light like a lighter, there's no flame when its lit, but in darkness you can see it, it looks like slow steel wool burning when its lit properly.

Make sure you test this before going on any adventures expecting it to work like magic. It can take longer than 10 seconds to ignite on the first 1-2 burns, but you can test it using just a little fluid, and then it will be easier the next time. Also, to "turn it off," just put it in a sealed plastic bag. And don't forget to take the burner off before pouring in the fluid, if you pour fluid on the burner, it will ignite and turn into a large flame.

It's not like a lighter when it lights the burner will glow slightly, sometimes it takes a few tries, when it's lit the only way to really tell is to blow on it, it will glow brighter, like a previous comment, it looks like steel wool burning, a torch lighter works well to ignite it. If it ignites like a lighter it's overfilled, a glowing ember is what you want.

  • @h.e.rogish5701

Excellent video. It's a little misleading though when it shows how to actually light the hand-warmer. Here it shows the flame from the lighter passing each side of the burner for only a second or two. To get that burner nice and hot and drawing fuel up through it so it works properly, you need to keep the flame from the Zippo on the burner 12 - 15 seconds per side. Keep it in the bag once it's lit so that it pulls hard in drawing air and the results will be the best.

I've had one of these handwarmers for like 2 years now. First time I tried to light it, I panicked and ruined the burner. A few weeks ago I bought a replacement burner, thinking that I could try again and get ready for winter. Watched the video, didn't work. Read your comment, and the thing was warm for around 40 hours! I realise that I put too much fuel in it, but I'm ecstatic! Your comment was invaluable! I was close to giving up again!

Mine worked fine. Not as warm as I expectted though. Using it has a learning curve. The first thing I learned is that the plastic dispenser doesn't work. Out fluid in it and tilt it to pour in warmer and noting comes out. I ended up just ysing the spout on the can to fill it. It's a little hard to do that without spilling a little though......... be careful. Then after wiping the exterior of the warmer it can be lit. I used A Bic to light mine. Took longer than 10 seconds each side to get it started. I had to do it 3 times, but once lit it stays lit. In fact mine is still a little warm from yesterdays use, a little less than 24 hour ago.

They get warm not hot, about the same as your core temperature I would say. Put one under your blanket with you in 46°F and it feels like your under a blanket in 73°F. If you put it in a container with food it would probably stop it from getting cold and keep it room temperature at like a regular 80°F day. That's my guess at least.

VIDEO IS INCORRECT!!!! ONLY POUR FLUID INTO MIDDLE HOLE. IF YOU FORGET JUST REMEMBER WHERE FLUID GOES TO KNOCK UP FEMALE. No but really, only pour the lighter fluid into deep middle hole. I had to repeat all steps three or four times before mine finally took and started warming up. Remember to leave it out of the pouch for about 10 or so minutes after first lighting it, all reports say this improves heat output.

ALSO! When you place the burner back on top after pouring fluid into middle hole, directions say to let it sit so to absorb fluid for at least two minutes. If it doesn't work after that, try a few more times as the directions also say that it may not work properly the first time or two as there is in fact a break in period.

infinity251214 I wanted to pass along some tips I've learned from my warmer experience. I wonder if you are adding enough fuel especially if you haven't used it in a while it needs more fuel to saturate the cotton material to the point that it starts evaporating up to the burner. Otherwise perhaps you need a cap/new burner. I have overfilled before and the worse that happens is some of the fuel leaks out of the seam and can also catch on fire when lighting but it's no big deal, it's a mild flame that can be blown out. DON'T buy lighter fluid, buy camping Napthan fuel in the 1 gallon is best at Walmart, because you'll save a lot of money and it's the same fuel. Take care of yourself Oh here's a really great insider info website WWW.DESTENI.ORG

Wc Cheung "i bought one but it never worked. It can be ignited somethimes ,but big fire come out ! ....whats the problems ?" == That's fuel burning like the way a candle burns. Hand warmer works by chemical reaction of fuel and oxygen induced by the platinum. The catalyst glows red in the dark(when it's working properly) specially when you blow air on it, but not with flame. If your Zippo isn't working, don't waste your time contacting the company. Instead, get a Peacock(the real thing and most famous), it always works.(and costs more)

Thane David It's may or may not be possible to spark a lamp fluid in the Zippo lighter, but the fluid that is recommended to use in the lighter wouldn't work as well because of mixed fluids. It will take awhile for the lamp fluid to spark but it's possible to use lamp fluid. At first it's only possible through matches not the spark but after couple of times of resparking the lighter it may or may not work. It does cause damages to the wick though, however, it's your choice whether or not to use different fluids.
