With mannequins put in harms way to highlight the dangers of a zipper rupture still has a number of tire technicians known if they follow regulations they would be still here explaining what just happened.

These are great vids to presumably keep the rest of us from *not* getting blown up but without context or explanation of what's failing on the tire and what to look for, ultimately useless.

What difference does it make what’s failing? This just shows what happens when you over-pressurize the tire, either via a hose, or by arc welding. In at least one explosion, it seems to have set the interior of the tire smoldering. Visibly “OK” tires sometimes explode that way when they have internal faults you can’t see. The take away is simple: don’t air up these tires while near them, and don’t weld wheels with tires on them.

@@absurdengineering I dunno that I’d be welding wheels anyways.

@@absurdengineering listen for 'clungs' or 'clacks' while inflation is under way. If you hear anything close, stop inflation at once. Those sounds are the metal bands in the tire failing, and if one goes the whole thing can go.

Reminds me of those old Mr.Bill shorts. Where's Sluggo :-P? Read somewhere that ruptures like these can release up to 12 tons of force. I don't screw w/tires...

I hope not, screwing a tire would hurt.

Just a word of advice, keep the music a little lower and don't just walk away, look for bubbles, listen for popping..... and you don't always hear the popping.

It might knock you over but it wont force a tire rim into your body. Id choose the cage.

Cage helps as long as you’re not trying to have a slow dance with it. The cage is there to keep the wheel in one place. It won’t retain shrapnel, and it won’t retain air blasts.
