Zig Zag Railway Returns!

A huge welcome back to the awesome Zig Zag Railway after 12 years away. This footage was filmed during a Members day on May 14th 2023 ahead of the official public re-opening on May 27th 2023.
Zig Zag Railway runs from Clarence station to Bottom Points, stopping at Top points on the way down. It originally opened in 1975 as a volunteer run attraction using the route of the original Lithgow Zig Zag in the Blue Mountains. Operation was suspended in 2012 and the railway was heavily damaged by bushfires in 2013 which wiped out much of the facilities and stock. Volunteers have worked tirelessly for a decade to get the Zig Zag back and running.

One amazing steamer that is. It could hold its own against the Durango & Silverton. 😁

The last time I rode the Zig Zag was about 16 years ago when my lad was 3 years old and obsessed with Thomas the Tank Engine. We loved the ride and it brought back a lot of memories of when my parents took me on the train in the 1980's. It's great to see it back. I would be awesome if the Zig Zag on the eastern side of the mountains was able to run a train as well.

About three hours away from where I live in Tennessee (USA), there’s a theme park known as Dollywood. They have two genuine steam locomotives, and one of them (locomotive 192) is of the same class of locomotive as engine 218 (seen in this video).

You missed 1 of the best shots on the railway which on the way down as you reach no.1 viaduct i remember the view across the valley including no.2 and 3 viaduct.

What a mess. The colour of the engine should be black. The number is 218A not 218 and then there is the inappropriate bell which Queensland Railways engines NEVER had. I know you will delete this comment but what I say is true.

It’s because 218A was an American locomotive. The bell is supposed to be a callback to how it was built in America.

If anything, I think she looks a lot more striking in green, plus the bell is a lovely addition, helps round off the overall look of the locomotive.
