長野電鉄前面展望 信濃竹原→湯田中 <Cabview Japanrail Nagano Electric Railway Shinanotakehara → Yudanaka>

This video is shaky. Please be aware of this first.
Nagano Electric Railway, a private railway that runs through Nagano Prefecture, is a 33.2 km line that connects Nagano Station and Yudanaka Station. The terminal, Nagano Station, is located in the center of Nagano City and is adjacent to JR Nagano Station. The Nagano Electric Railway's tracks are underground for about 2 km from this station, but beyond that the tracks come out onto the ground. Then, from Shinshu Nakano Station on the way, the tracks start to climb a steep slope. This section has a maximum gradient of 40 per mille.
The final stop, Yudanaka Station, is also built at the end of a steep slope. Yudanaka is famous as a hot spring resort, and there are many hotels built there. To transport tourists, a short but relaxed express train is operated. It appears at the beginning of the video. This vehicle was once used by Odakyu Electric Railway in Tokyo, but the 11-car formation was shortened to a 4-car formation. There are two trains in service, and they are very popular.
This video shows the journey from Shinano Takehara Station, which is further on from Shinshu Nakano Station. The distance is short and the journey time is short, but you can enjoy the atmosphere of a local line with continuous uphill sections. There are many low trees along the line. They are apples. Apples are a specialty of the Nagano region, and they bear a lot of fruit in the autumn.

Now this is one short but neat video of an interesting little railroad. Maybe because it is such a sweet, short line, but I noticed that the track gang is ahead of the weeds, here. I didn't see a single weed in the roadbed. Anyhow this is another one of your fascinating videos of Japanese railroading. The only place that can compare, in the US, is southern California's Metro Link, which only has two lines that can be considered mountain railroading, and nowhere near the variety of lineside scenery that you regularly find. Thanks again for the time and effort you put in for these videos.

Thank you for your comment. In reality, the Nagano Electric Railway is quite long, but we had to change trains between the city and the mountains (though there are direct trains), so I couldn't find a good camera position. However, it would be a shame to let all the footage go to waste, so you can see a part of it. I would like to go out and take a little longer footage in the fall apple harvest season. The line, which has a continuous uphill slope, is attractive even for us to ride.

I really didn't mind the shaky bits. It reminds me of the some journeys I had as a boy. One of railways had diesel trains which vibrated noisily at certain engine speeds. Putting your head against the window made your teeth chatter!

Vehicles with diesel engines tend to shake a lot. If I could find a way to reduce camera shake, I would be able to photograph more subjects. This is my current research topic.
