作品受兩部傳奇愛情故事影響而作，一部是充滿美好理想、崇尚英雄精神的傳奇詩篇《召樹屯與婻吾婼娜》，另一部是沈從文最具人性美的小說《邊城》。
一個為了“美”與“愛”敢於用生命去挑戰巨大的災難。一個為了“美”與“愛”敢於用一生去等待美好的愛情。
這感天動地的精神與情懷，成為熔煉作品靈感的主要來源，作品也因此不重描寫故事情節，而重於情感的表達與昇華，並呼喚了人與自然的和諧共存。
創作上不拘一格，多元溶合，力圖展現琵琶與樂隊豐富的表現力以及琵琶的交響性。

Zhao Zhang: Song of the Heaven and Earth

This composition for pipa and Chinese orchestra is derived from two legendary love stories. One is from an idealistic and heroic poem, “The Peacock Princess”, the other from Congwen Shen’s novel, “Border Town”, a famous story about human nature. As humans, we want to overcome all difficulties with perfection and love, and yet we may also need to wait a lifetime anticipating this beautiful love. The inspiration for this composition comes from this universal sentiment. This work does not focus on the details of the stories; instead, it emphasizes the intense emotions, all the while calling on harmony between people and nature.
This composition demonstrates the colourful and powerful combination of the pipa and Chinese orchestra.
