    I just got home from Eriksson Industries in Old Saybrook. My transmission was dyno'd and worked! I would never have taken on this project without Gary, and I will find a way to thank him. I did buy the product he recommended, and am absolutely thrilled that my first automatic transmission repair was successful! Thank you Gary for teaching the world how to fix these common failures, pushing otherwise awesome cars to the scrap yard.

    Gary: Good to talk to you today. I think you for your advice and guidance over the past week. I'd like to point out to anyone watching your videos that they are an excellent source of education on both the practical disassembly and assembly of these transmissions and the theory of how they operate - explained in laymen's terms. From my own experience I'd like to add a further caveat to the A and B drum weaknesses: When I tore down my transmission, rebuilt just 4K miles ago, I cleaned the sump of what I thought was clutch dust. It turned out to be the remains of the B drum seal which had dissolved completely, causing the car to stop moving. Everything else inside the box was brand new. Caveat Emptor. Cheers, Peter

    Gary, Thanks for all the videos! I have a 2000 Jag XK8. I replaced the broken A drum and inspected the valve body. Valve body looked good, fluid was dark and not a lot of material in pan so I just replaced the A drum. I still have the same very delayed enagagement about 2500 rpm and slams into gear. Reverse works fine and the trans is in limp mode. It sets fault P1722 Stall Speed failure. After rechecking the repair the A drum is intact and all seals look good. It doesn't seem like a control issue it seems mechanical, . I have not torn the trans down completely. I wanted to ask what else to look for and could I have a torque converter issue?

    Hey, Gary. Great video. I’m having a 2-3 and sometimes just a 2 slip on my 740il causing it to go into failsafe prog for incorrect gear 2 ratio. From what I’m gathering in the comments, I should be suspecting a different drum than my A-clutch? I’m about to undertake the overhaul and want to make sure I have everything I need. Also, I’m having a lock up in 5th that’s weak and goes in and out at 70mph. I was advised it’s the torque converter lock up clutch. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

    Hello G ;) I had a "forward" problem on my audi s8 5hp24; I found a good "A" drum but broken "thin" o'ring, replaced it and get everything back in car; A car began moving forwar and back, gears changing smothly. But everything is nice still driving low load and rpms. When adding more throotle changing 1-2, second gear oil pressure is late for second, rpms free jumping and boom; second gear ir weak; Did I damaged same other orings when asembled?

    +Gary Ferraro I trusted in luck and didn't touch "D", "E" and "F" drums; Rear gear works perfect so F is ok; Now in manual I see that in second gear locks "E" drum. Could be that it is failed, not hermetic? what comon problems are with "D and E" hub?

  • @GaryFerraro

    @GaryFerraro

    +Edgaras Kazlauskas Its possible that the E clutch piston may have developed a crack, if so, it would flare on the 1-2 shift and on the 2-3 shift producing gear ratio error codes.

    +john O'Brien It could be the sealing rings on the stator shaft or possible clutch drum seals. Has this gone into failsafe before? Do you know the code or codes present? this is not a common issue with this trans

    +Gary Ferraro I didn't pull the codes before disconnecting the battery . I did notice when I perform the air test in your video the A drum jumped as you said it would but the B drum clutches were slow to move and seemed to have a lot of blow by . I checked the o ring in the base of the B drum and found it to be flat top and bottom and it seemed pretty hard to me.

  • @GaryFerraro
