Young Martin’s Reels was created to honor my dad Martin B. Stivers of Louisville KY. He was an avid fisherman and repaired thousands of fishing reels in his lifetime. I spent numerous hours watching him do so, but I have forgotten most of what he taught me. Now that he is gone, and I find myself in need of reel repair, so I am learning how it is done and trying my best to pass it on.

If I can be of assistance, feel free to contact me Rick48cj2a@yahoo.com
I would also like to thank Dennis Kuntz of 2nd Chance Tackle. His videos have helped to fill in the gaps in my “reel” knowledge. Without his KZread videos I’m afraid Young Martin’s Reels would not exist.

Tommy was on the right track with oiling the shafts. I always oil the shafts on my Model 11 and 22. Makes them a joy to cast, and it really leaves the rotor unimpeded while the line pays out.

Dan, I haven’t done it myself but it absolutely made sense to me. I have a model 22 but I haven’t fished with it before. I guess I need to take it on an outing.

Rotating parts that you want to put grease on. You can use the Cal's purple grease mixed with a little bit of oil. Gives you the extra friction protection but doesn't slow the reeling as much.

They are fun to fish with. There’s a little learning curve to get the timing right while casting. I made a video where I was fishing for channel cats with my Model 22.😊

It gives you an appreciation of what our ancestors had to go through as the technology improved. This was a vast improvement over the old level wind reels but still a far cry from the 33.

There have been a couple times you cleaned a real and mentioned it would be sold by Ken, and I thought I might try to buy it if I knew what Ken's Ebay seller account was. Did the Penn 716 sell yesterday for $88.88?

@@youngmartinsreels5314wOW! The way Rick described that reel to me I wouldn’t have thought it would go for that much. I guess they are rare and hard to find.

And it sold right after being listed so it might have gone for more if it was auctioned instead of buy it now.

@@christopherjenkins2373 They are a bit difficult to come by. I used to own one, in nicer condition than the one that just sold, and I liked it a lot. And then I lost it. 😢
