Zero FXE | First Ride!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Zero Motorcycles FXE electric supermoto is a facelift on the previous FXS. I loved the FXS so the question is how does it stand up to its counterpart?
Big thanks to English Electric Motor Co. AKA EEMC for the loan of the machine for a couple of weeks to get to know and bring you videos and a review!

    My personal opinion is that even at that price for an urban situation they're a no brainer. Apart from the environmental cost of the battery production, the noise, air and congestion pollution in towns would be massively reduced if most people rode them. In the country though, where trips are much longer, they would need a range of at least 200 miles to be acceptable. Fast charging and bosses being amenable to charging while you work, would help too. I would miss the smell and sound of a combustion engine though 😁

    If you look at miles total, instead of miles per trip, the value is still there long term. Gas, oil, filter, top end, clutch, spark plugs add up. Average annual fuel cost is $600 for Motorcycles, if you add that into the equation electric is comparable.

    Great review. It looks perfect for my daily commute into central Paris to replace my current Triumph. Parking is going to be close to impossible for petrol bikes as of this September while electric ones remain free. Most of my riding is urban/peri-urban aside from the occasional weekend jaunt. I do a lot of filtering and some ringroad riding. I will test ride one this weekend alongside a more sporty Zero. Would this model be your ultimate pick for 100 miles per week in urban environments?

    13k for the bike? expensive in anyone's language, current price of elecricity?! I don't think, in the current climate, electric bike sales are going to be very high (IMO). If you 'really' want an electric bike, you'll find one within your budget perhaps? I believe, that electric, or similar, bikes etc, are the future.......... Just not yet! Too expensive, still not enough infastructure (especially in rural areas), and the technology hasn't reach the point, where it's a viable alternative to petrol.........yet!! As I said, just my opinion. Great video, as always Spicy. Grumps.

  • @gallaghergibson8024
    @gallaghergibson80242 жыл бұрын

    Regarding the price falling, I think we're on a roughly 3-4 year cycle on that front. There's two prevailing tailwinds, ie volume production increases drive unit prices down, so as the world makes more batteries, the price of electric motorcycles will follow. In addition, the more units that are sold, the bigger the second hand market becomes: I ride a 2018 Zero S and if I'd had to buy it new I would never have been able to afford it. I say 3-4 years, however, because there's a temporary headwind facing the battery industry that will prevent prices falling in the short term, even with the aforementioned tailwinds. That is, planned production capacity increases for raw materials to manufacture batteries are currently far below expected increases in demand for EVs. Mines take a long time to come online, and there's a predicted shortfall in Lithium, Nickel, Cobalt, and other necessary raw materials. Motorcycles depend on the very highest end batteries, because they need to keep the weight down and the energy density up. Tesla can make good cars with 200+ miles of range out of LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries, but you won't see a good motorcycle with one of these batteries. Maybe utilitarian scooters for the Asian markets. If you stretch your time horizon out to 2026-30, the market will be flooded with raw materials, and older EV batteries will begin to be recycled, further increasing supply. At that point, more players will have entered the market, and competition between brands will begin to bring the price down. The good news for early adopters, from my experience, is that these bikes will suffer very little degradation. I have 24k on my Zero's odo, and the range hasn't diminished at all. So while the price remains high, they should keep their value fairly well.

    I think £13K is reasonable considering that maintenance would be minimal with fewer moving parts in electric motors, cheaper to run with the cost of fuel at the forecourt’s rising faster than flash gorgon with a rocket up his (•) the trade off for shorter mileage is closing in to almost equal in newer batteries and fast charging being 1 hour or less, even horsepower isn’t a thing with electric motors delivering instant power. These are the future of personal travel needs too with ICE vehicles being phased out in a decade (+ or - a few years)

    Put a clutch and gear levers back, give it a curved power delivery depending on what 'gear' it's in then. Give it 7 gears on the electric bikes, that 1 more than most petrol bikes. Gears = more power, everyone knows that lol - Gotta sus those anti-electric bikers into liking the extra power. Seriously though, they need to put gears on the thing, fake it if they have to, but that's half the fun. Otherwise it's just a fast moped.

    @@spicy110 You have to compare, as you want to give a reason for people to switch. So comparing power outputs, it's 3-4 times the price of a 125 producing the same power. Regardless of what the bike does, a CBT licenced bike shouldn't cost over 5k end of story, 13k is well overpriced. Peak output of the A2 version is 15KW, and base line Tesla model 3 costing 4 times as much produces 11 times the power. Point being, the battery is what's overpriced on Electric motorcycles, yet Tesla is able to do just fine, and people still call those expensive cars, but frankly they are much much more comparable to their petrol counter parts, yet our electric motorcycles feel like decades behind. It's frustrating because they're great bikes. Also I realise I put in power and not battery capacity. Zero fxe 7.2KWh £13k = £1.8k per kWh Tesla model 3 62.3kWh £45k = £722 per kWh. Point being this bike if made by tesla would cost around 5k as per my previous statement about bikes in this range/power output shouldn't cost more than this figure.

    I do not wish to make anyone get one, I just like them and tell people what it is like. As I have said this bike can not be argued as a good alternative directly, so In ways I agree. But if you want a electric supermoto with 400cc like power this is your only option. This is why I said I was going to treat it like a rich boys toy (that was in this video right? I can not remember haha) 13K is like £20 to some people and those people need reviews too!

    If I was super rich why would I spend 13 grand on this bike when I can spend 20 grand on the Harley-Davidson LiveWire and get a better bike. It's best this is a beginner bike for the super rich . very niche the Zero DS is better and there's is a 11 kW version

    Firstly you are still looking at the cost, to the rich the price doesn't matter, they want they buy. Also the Livewire is a bit poo, if you are rich get a Zero SR/F or a Energica Eva Ribelle RS!! Also keep in mind this is a supermoto, different animal! People who want supermotos do not want a cruiser! 😉

    For 13k, I'm getting a 2nd hand 19 plate, Tiger 1200 XRT. I know which one I'd rather have. The miles range is still waaaaay too low as well. If they get it to 200 miles, maybe, just maybe.

    @@ilovemynewjacket1507 And again you're just throwing around numbers, the battery in this model costs around £5-6k and you'll get more than 40 miles from a charge unless you're sitting on a dual carriageway at 70mph the whole time. It does however take more than 4 hours to charge. It's not intended to be charged while you're out, you do your daily commute on it and then charge it over night.

    Love it Spicy! Can’t afford it tho. Really enjoy your videos. Do you have plans making reviews of electrictrics ? Like Sur-Ron, CR9, Niu or other Super Socos?
