I liked black dial with black strap but it also looked cool with the green rubber strap. Bracelet was fine for all dial colors (still prefer black dial).

Summer: Black and green in town, white and blue for lakes, sea. Rest of the year : bracelet 😁😁 even if, black or white with black rubber might be good for town too (maybe after 5pm) 😁😁

Great review. Thanks for covering this in detail. Silver dial and green strap will look great during the hotter months. The black dial only works with the black strap in my opinion, just as the blue dial only works with the blue strap. I'm torn between the black dial and the silver dial. :-/. Btw, can the date be set bidirectionally? It was not demonstrated in the video.

I have been admiring zenith for some time. This defy has made me take my admiration to the next level. Rarely do I see a watch and immediately seriously interested in purchasing it. 11 possibilities to wear the Defy Skyline!

Alexander, as you can see by all the comments you hit a home run! It was an excellent video and thank you addressing the accuracy question. I was very happy about the performance and look of the watch with all the color options. I did not know you could choose your strap so that was a pleasant surprise. I also liked how you shared the inception of this watch came from the 1969 design-well said! I think I like the blue dial best, but may choose the silver (or white I am not sure) version because I think I could swap out more zenith strap colors with it. Thank you again and I have no questions!

Beautiful watch. I love the ability to mix and match the straps. I prefer the bracelet. But, both look great. That movement is very cool. Should be less expensive to service without the additional complications of the El P. Excellent presentation as usual. I agree. The blue is my favorite also! lol.

Great review, thank you! Fantastic watch. Love the easy strap change mechanism and so the versatility of the watch. I have a Defy classic and really appreciate the lightness of that watch. Slightly wish they’d done this in titanium also. I wonder whether they’ll release a chronograph version soon?

Which one is your favorite?

I took a closer look at the weekend. That strap change mechanism is really amazing and disengages in a second. Clip. And you’re done. So easy. The case reflects light really nicely and has to be seen in reality to see the effect. The bracelet has the same visual appeal sparkling as you rotate your wrist. The rubber strap looks very sporty and well made. The 10s revolution of the small seconds is rapid and crazy cool. Almost like time is running away from you very quickly. The star rotor looks very funky. The one downside is that only the rubber can be adjusted without tools as the bracelet can’t be adjusted. For my money I’d go with the titanium defy skeleton model as this dial is maybe a little plain despite the circles or star’s motive. Still, a fun piece and visually quite arresting.

Thanks for sharing! That kind of feedback is the best we can get... The "skeleton" is of course an attractive alternative, but not my cup of tea, since I don't like skeletonized dials at all. The Defy Skyline in blue would definitely be my choice...

Thanks for your candour and plain speaking review - as always. Personally, would be very interested in this if it were slightly slimmer. But will need need to try it on to see. I like the design anyway, but if I get one - yeah, depends on if it feels too thick for me.

The overall wearing comfort was a very good one, especially with the rubber straps... But also the combination with the bracelet wears good... Too thick? Nope! Please try it on your wrist and share some thoughts with us thereafter ....

I understand that Zenith wants to show off the movement with the 10 seconds small dial, but personally i would’ve preferred a normal 60 seconds small dial at 6’oclock or just central seconds. The 10 seconds idea is cool but it is impractical imo. As someone who sets his watches precise to the seconds, How am I suppose to know the exact time with the 10 seconds dial? However, I think Zenith has done a great job and the watch looks really good. I feel like the small 10 seconds at 9 o’clock might actually make the watch popular as more people get used to it.

For true precision nuts, you'll be able to tell based on where the minutes hand is positioned between each minute mark. 😆 This actually would have worked quite well if the minute hand had a more precise point, and there were 5 small micromarks between each minute mark. 🤔

One must wear the watch for a while to really appreciate that “speedy” small second…

My preference is the white dial/green strap. Also like the blue dial/green strap and the black dial/green strap. Beginning to think I like the green strap more than any single dial:).

It is refreshing to see that they allow the buyer to choose strap color; it's not set based on the dial you buy. Best would be if all 3 rubber were automatically included of course! It is very cool to see they lumed the small seconds hand... rarely is this Ever done, even when it appears it could/should be. Case in point, my own old Zenith Synopsis, they did not lume the seconds prong. It is just a fun detail of course. This dial it looks like I'll need to see in person.... I'm not so sure about it even after viewing several videos on the watch. I do wish they had made the case a bit smaller, 38/40 range. Other than that, very cool, interesting addition to this integrated bracelet sportswatch genre, great features.

Being spoilt of choice… that’s what we customers like… you can buy the straps alone too, so if you wish to add one there are no restrictions… The dial IMHO looks gorgeous, you should see it in real and in different light conditions to make up your mind… Share some thoughts with us once you have done it…

It is a white silver... depending on the light that falls on it it appears either in white or silver...

You personally have turned me into a Zenith fan. I have the Defy Mykonos (blue ceramic)and looking to get this or the Defy Classic in titanium.

Hi, great video. It's an interesting take by Zenith on the ever increasing integrated bracelet sportswatch market. Obviously the bar has been set very high with the Royal Oak/Nautilus models. But hats off to Zenith for trying something different. A few things I find interesting. They replaced the Elite movement with a de-tuned El Primero movement (not sure that's a good idea) and the busy seconds hand will take time to get used to. Also why did they change to steel vs grade 5 titanium (as for the Defy Classic). Titanium would have given it the edge over the other integrated bracelet watches. I need to see it in the flesh but the bracelet / strap options are fantastic and the way forward. Also the price point is interesting. EUR 8300 retail is quite a bit of money for a watch that doesn't hold value very well.

I bought the white face. The fit, the feeling of turning the crown, the design of the bracelet, and the finish of the exterior. All of them are doing a good job. There are pros and cons to the 10 second second, but it makes us realize that time in our lives is wasted without us noticing. It's a great concept and we think Zenith is an underrated brand.

Really good video, and finally we can see that crazy fast small seconds hand in live action. What I am curious is that on your video the lume glow seems quite white in the dark. From C1 Superluminova I would actually expect light green glow. What is the perception of the glow color as observed with naked eye?

Well called the AD and waiting for the Call back when they got it finally in Stock in Frankfurt. Just afraid because of the thickness...i really like slim watches and my wrist is also only 17cm round. The silver dial looks gorgeous especially in bracelet, otherwise the Green rubber Strap. What do you think about the Quality compare to Laureato? I really hope that it fits and it blows my mind so I am gonna buy it immediately Then. 😅 Once again to you: really appreciate your work, your enthusiasm and knowledge. Also I think you are the only one who communicate alot with the People here and answers there questions or discuss with them/us. Fine move! When I will it try it on, I will let you know!! Go for the Zenith, go for the Zenith! I am not convinced about what happens with GP in the moment… I would be very cautious! GP does not even exhibit/present its watches at the upcoming Watches and Wonders… To be honest I am shocked to what extent that one CEO destroyed GP... Gino Macaluso rotates in his grave…

First of all great Video! Danke! The watch itself is not my type, I felt that already when I saw the first pictures a couple of days ago… I do like that you can replace the straps and I think the bracelet is the best looking option on all watchdials But at that pricepoint I luckily pass. I am a proud owner of the Defy21 El Primero, which is a stunning mechanical achievement and also design wise I couldnt ask for more. I do also love the sound and the feeling when the rotor turns, it makes me realize everyday again that I have a technical masterpiece on my wrist!! The only thing to upgrade the game would be the easy replacing strap system. (I know the defy extreme has this option, but the case and dial are not the same). Zenith is a very interesting brand that I have been in touch with in the past through my previous job, but never attracted until 1 year ago. Now I cant get tired of their history. Looking really forward to visit the factory/manufacture by the end of this month. Beste Gruesse aus der Schweiz!!

My fav is the silver/white dial. A real strap magnet. The problem, you can't get the black or blue strap separately just yet and prices aren't available either. Had Zenith offered all three straps and bracelet for the stated MSRP, it would have been a done deal. Aside from the strap availability, the small seconds is cool to watch, but overall is useless if tracking lapsed time. More gimmick than useful.

Apparently that's the dial that was ordered the most from ADs ... It offers all possibilities to combined with even more colors and the bracelet on top...

I'm more of a chronograph fan when it comes to Zenith either the Chronmaster tri color open heart or Revival panda 🐼 these styles are the epitome of Zenith. Even though the Skyline resembles the Royal oak and Laureato I do still like it and it's very cool that the movement is a descendant of the El primero. I find that extremely interesting

I like!!! I'd go for the black version on the rubber strap. A leather-Strap or an Nato would also look quite nice I assume.. PS; Don't like the bracelet so much with the butterfly-clasp, altough I'm usually a brecelet guy.... I prefer foldover with adjustment capabilities..

Schönes Review zur Defy die blaue finde ich schön. Aber wenn ich an Zenith denke sind es die Chronographen die mein Herz höher schlagen lassen. Dieses Uhrendesign ist momentan angesagt deshalb habe ich die Tissot PRX gekauft Aber das ist eine andere Preisklasse.....trotzdem danke für das Video.

I was already amazed by the other model. But now, this wonderful new Defy make look the other one a toy! What a beauty, bravissimi in Zenith, right now they have, to me, 2 of the best watches in the market: this one, and the chrono (the new Daytona of the decade)!!!

great review, but as for the rubber straps and the freedom of choice; even zenith's website says that with the silver dial, you get the green strap. are you sure it's a free choice? also, how much are extra straps?

@@WatchAdvisor I am just not huge on small seconds registers but this one is sweet how it ticks around so quickly. It has been growing on me, I’ll likely end up buying one.

I can’t make up which dial to go for… White dial color goes well with almost all strap color choices. However a white dial can get boring quick for me. Blue dial is beautiful, but I have other blue dials. I may regret having something similar. Black is bold, may not go well with other strap colors when compared with the rest - the black dial color gives it a nice depth when reading the dial. And I still can’t decide. I was thinking about going for the skeleton choices but I find those designs not as timeless or fun as these.

@@WatchAdvisor I would probably like the black dial with golden indices, it adds character to the dial. I always liked black with gold color dial combinations. I saw the boutique edition and have tried it on, the room had strong spotlights and I instantly noticed how reflective the grey dial is which made me change my mind. Flashy colors are nice, they’re based on trends - personally it would very likely bore me with time. The strongest dial colors so far in the watch world would probably be Black & Blue. This novelty release is so underrated as they’ve nailed them with amazing color choices, and what’s lacking in them is the strap color choices. I believe they will be adding new options in the near future. Mr. Julien and his team know what they’re doing with the brand. I’m always looking forward to see what’s coming up next. I enjoyed all your interviews with him btw!

There’s a missed opportunity with the bracelet where it doesn’t have micro-adjustments, same with the Cartier Santos. Otherwise, its perfect! Sporty and dressy, the strap changing system is amazing! Definitely one to consider, especially with the movement being shown off in the small seconds

These micro-adjustments are technically difficult and expensive to realize… Zenith though should offer one … for a little extra… for those who want one…

@@WatchAdvisor But in the same price range Rolex and Omega are offering. This is one of reasons why Zenith and Grand Seiko are not as popular I think. Convenience goes a long way.

That is a quite puristic approach though... Im not sure if that would really work and sell...

It is a beautiful watch especially with blue dial, however the fast pace of the small second hand is not for me. I know I would not be able to get used to that. The high-speed rotation makes me "dizzy". Wonder, if Zenith will make different three hand versions...

I thought the same when I saw that “speedy” small second… now after some days - the watches are still with me - I start loving it more and more…

Very nice watch. The black dial with the green strap looks great, even though my favorite is still the blue dial. Probably I prefer the Defy classic with the blue dial. Also the vintage model looks great, Alexander! Do you have any additional info about the vintage references? Thanks.

I'm not fully convinced yet about the design choices. Personally i would prefer a no date version, since the date does not manage to achieve symmetry in combination with the small seconds. So an asymetric dial layout with just the small seconds would be preferable. Secondly, the brushed finish on the bracelet looks a bit boring, I would like to see a finish similar to the IWC 3228. Otherwise I do like the design in general, with some improvements this line could definitely become an alternative to the current watches in the integrated bracelet sport watches category.

Hello, great review. I have a question about the bracelet. You shave your arm hairs but I do not. I have tried the Defy Classic on and both times it has pulled hairs and I've only had it on for a few seconds. Does the Skyline bracelet have gaps to prevent hair pulling? like a Rolex Oyster for example that never pulls. Thanks.

@@WatchAdvisor Thank you. Looking at your video there are gaps in the centre links at 23:42 minutes. The outer sections of the "H" links I cannot see. Hopefully I will get to try one on soon. I don't get it. The purpose of that 10 second small seconds and to hear its replacing the current Defy is unfortunate, hopefully other versions will take a more useful approach. And I hope they can reduce the thickness, 12mm isn't thick but on a watch with such a short lug to lug it appears very thick. I'm sure someone will get one and love it and to them I say cheers. Great video.

BOND is a dive watch guy out the Omega Seamasters he wore the Planet ocean is my favorite

I like the design, the inspiration from the 60’s edition, how ergonomic the crown is, the dial.. like everything EXCEPT the seconds. How am I to align it to 0 seconds when setting time? I could be at 10,20,30,40 or 50 seconds when the seconds hand is aligned at 10. I didn’t like just this thing about the watch. I don’t see it as a USP. It’s unique weird, quirky, annoying point IMHO. Otherwise a great value for money.

Yes, of course… but do you really want to combine the blue dial with the green strap? Nope! So one less… 😉

Love almost everything about the new Zenith! All accept the dial that looks to much as AP, all the rest they are untitled to their heritage 💯 and same with the CMS that I myself own one since a year back. I love it, everything accept the bracelet that is to similar as to a Daytona. But I love how they tease all the haters and gets free publicity that way. Way to go Zenith 👏 and especially on the AP ROs 50th year birthday 😅 that’s how you take back what was once yours to begging with! 1969 ftw 🤩⌚️53 years and still running…

Ohhh no! That’s a pity… Please let me know if you want me to put you in contact with Zenith directly… so they can solve the problem for you…

The only question that comes to mind is why does the AP from the 70ies look very similar to their modern interpretations while Zeniths new version - well - leaves you with the impression that it was designed to be as close as possible to the famous RO.... Nevertheless a nice watch! And to be honest I fully understand Zeniths move considering the immense popularity of integrated bracelet watches.....

I think it is the only possible way to make a modern interpretation of a design that was born in 1969… as with cars and other objects, today they all look the same in a way…

@@WatchAdvisor ok - speaking of modern car design you get a similar look because of restrictions concerning the CW value.... In the world of watch design there are arguably no restrictions.... So the desicion to replace every design element which was significant to the original Defy (case shape, dial....) with elements of one of the most successful integrated bracelet watches is from a marketing point of view completely understandable - but from the viewpoint of an enthusiast it seems rather odd.... Anyway the output is a nice watch and for sure something that will sell very good as this royal oakish design meets the actual demands of the customers very well....

Wish they kept the old movement to make the watch a little smaller and get rid of the small seceond dial and date. Would make the watch look munch nicer and more affordable.

@@edgardo1166 Pull out the crown and align the seconds hand with 10 (as marked in the seconds dial). Also align the minute (usually 1 min in advance) and hour hands with reference timepiece (digital or otherwise). As as soon as the time coincides (seconds, minutes, hours) with your reference timepiece, push back the crown.

@@edgardo1166 Does not matter. Pull out the crown and align with the 10 marker. Wait and watch your reference timepiece. When the seconds hand in your reference timepiece (e.g., seconds hand in the analog view of your watch icon on your phone) touches the 12 marker, push back the crown of this watch.

Accuracy has nothing to do with the small second indication! That’s a general wanted feature of a mechanical precision instrument. The more the better…

Very interesting question who and what inspired Gerald Genta… I simply don’t know… Fact is that the Defy steel sports watch design came in 1969… at this point AP had no such watch in its portfolio

Though I can't afford it, 8K is s good price for a Zenith such as this.
