Zen Percussion Freezbee Steel Tongue Drum: Unboxing & Initial Review (Guda Drum)

Музыка

I'm super excited about the new instrument I just received. I purchased one of the Freezbee steel tongue drums from Zen Percussion in Ukraine. This one has the matte brown finish, premium design, and is tuned to the Akebono scale at 440 Hz. It sounds really unique.

Indeed. Once we get consistent power back I need to do a comparison video.

Thank you, as always, for your time and effort producing quality videos for such a wide variety of instruments. They have always been very helpful to me in exploring different instruments and sounds. I should mention, only for the benefit of those just starting to be interested in metal tongue drums, that the Guda line, including the Freezbee drums, are mainly constructed from aluminum, not steel. While this material helps generate Guide's distinctive "woodsy" tone and light weight, the drums do not support the use of magnets. The magnetic microphone I use to amplify my RavVast drums does not work for Guda. I would also like to mention to those who prefer Guda's tonal qualities to investigate hardwood tongue drums. The sound is mesmerizing. Wooden tongue drums come in a nearly infinite range of scales and sizes. The only limitations to the drummer is the cost. An 8 or 9 tongue custom build will equals that Ravs, Art Quints or larger YW Pulsars.

Thanks for checking out the video. Great advice across the board. I actually have a separate video on steel tongue drum tuning and I bring up that exact point. Many of these drums are are called "steel" tongue drum but they're often made from other metals. Some drums - like Vibedrum - are made from stainless steel so they are indeed "steel" but are non-magnetic (I understand there are some forms of stainless steel that are magnetic but I'm not the expert there). The magnet trick is great - and I'm a big fan of Idiopan's drums for this reason - but that trick only works on ferrous metals.

@@musicalmiscellany Ty for the reply. I had to come back quickly as I made a rather significant error just now. Freezbees are magnetic. They are made of magnetic stainless steel. I must have confused them with one of the other Guda models which are made of nonferrous metals like copper. On the positive side(inadvertent magnet joke), makes the Freezbee more attractive to me as I already have a magnetic pickup. Thanks again for your efforts and willingness to share your knowledge and experience. Take Care.

once again Kale it's actually another similar thing. I have owned my Guda drum made by Dmitri Gubarev for about 4 years. It looks so much like your drum but a different scale. I got the A equinox. I have come to LOVE akebono. Which I have in another two drums. I mentioned to Molly ( as she just did a similar unboxing of her Freebeez Drum) anway I working on a comparison video as well. So it should be a blast with the three of us sharing our various drums~~ enjoy yours. Use it in good health~~

NEAT STUFF -- sweet sound -- interesting - I'd say 'really cool' except that you're going through that nonsense and I've been there and done that too many times in years past. I will check in again this weekend. I will run by Steve's page(s) as well.

It's wonderful! It is my absolute favorite of the nicer tongue drums, just such a beautiful tone! And I love the copper color and pattern you chose. (I got styrofoam everywhere too 🤣) Akebono is a great scale. Enjoy!!

That drum looks awesome. I wanna get the GUDA double from Zen Percussion because it sounds like a handpan but has 2 scales, and looks cooler. So expensive though. Do you know if there's high import taxes on these? My Kosmosky tongue drum was fortunately only about $20 import which is also from Russia.

I've seen the wood tongue drums but never played one. They are one of the oldest percussion instruments dating back thousands of years.

Great sounding drum. I bet even I could learn to play Shave and A Haircut on it but that would not be nice on such a fine instrument as that. Seems like money well spent Kale.
