Zebras: An Alternative to Silicon Valley Unicorns

Silicon Valley Unicorns are exciting, but are they good to be true? On this episode, Tristan Harris discusses the funding models of tech start-ups with Mara Zepeda and Kate “Sassy” Sassoon of Zebras Unite.
Zebra Unite is a member-owned co-operative which was founded to create an alternative to Silicon Valley unicorns. Unicorns are characterized by valuations of over a billion dollars, venture capital funding and laser focus on exponential growth. On the other hand, zebras are companies characterized by mutualism, purposeful growth targets and business models that support multi-stakeholder value.
Zebras Unite believes that in order to change corporate behaviour, we must change who has power over the company. Join Center for Humane Technology co-founder Tristan Harris as we discuss this topic.

Wonderful to hear voices of sanity. I started two small businesses, micro businesses, the payoff for me was paying happy employees to to do creative work making the world a better place. My little companies didn't go big. but they were great places to work, and the pottery studio especially was a huge asset to the community. The discussion references article, "sex and startups,"

I don't think your zebras can push the mismatched metaphor uphill. Didn't we used to have non-profit organizations whose mission was NOT profit, but some more communal, altruistic goals? Anyhow, I hope you succeed in finding a way to build organizations that can self-sustain while pulling human attention towards something other than greed, sex, hedonism and self-reinforced narratives of victimhood.

We need brainstorming on 'Public venture capital' and 'Public investment fund'... like something between goFundMe and ventureCapital.
