Zaytoven Lists Steps To Independent Success In The Industry
Ойын-сауық
www.vladtv.com - Famed producer Zaytoven has seen many wins in his career. From 1999 to today, the producer has worked with the likes of music's finest like Nicki Minaj, Usher, The Migos, Gucci Mane and more.
In this exclusive interview with VladTV, Zaytoven reveals how he came to reach such successful wins and how he managed to do so as an independent artist in the music industry.
First, Zay explains how working extensively on your craft can help cultivate a distinct sound. While he didn't reach success until 2004, he says the time doesn't exist anymore for new acts because of viral fame. Making beats everyday and showcasing his work with artists helped his name build buzz.
Another tip Zaytoven recommends is staying true to yourself. Following the independent path inside and out has kept him grounded. He explains how Gucci Mane found faith in him because he used organs and piano sounds in his beats. Since it wasn't the trendy sound spreading around Atlanta, Gucci was impressed by his work.
Lastly, Zaytoven says the "favor of God" has given him success. He prays and keeps a spiritual balance when it comes to his life path.
From following those rules, he's been able to venture outside of his music by producing two films, Birds of a Feather (amzn.to/1evfGXa) and Finesse (finessemovie.com/), both released on Netflix. He's also released a book titled, A to Zay(amzn.to/1dFOPag). The book focuses on his decade long career and more helpful tips on the music industry.
Check out the interview above.

Building a relationship with different artist is good, but if your product ain't no good you are just wasting your time. I like when he said " Be your own individual." there are so many upcoming rappers out there feel that if they sound like somebody already out there in the business that they are going to make it as well. Not true.

Roger Cook you either sound like somebody else & people think it's impressive but they don't ever come back for more. Or you sound like something crazy different & get mad hate for it but guarantee half those haters hitting your soundcloud links more than your real fans.

His first reason he made it was because of the 5 years of hustle. That is the key to any success. It takes 10,000 hours of hustle to make it in America. Do that and you become a master. Or don't....

Brandon Derrick I agree hustle is important, but you gotta be hustling on shit that’s productive for that line of work. There’s a lot of people who think that making 20 beats a day is grinding hard. First of all, this is the exact cause of why the rap game is so watered down on the radio the last decade. Dudes are making 10 beats a day off the same 808 saved template and moving the bass around with a brass hit here and a synth there. Hard work is better used spending maybe 6 hours a day setting up lunches with artists or buying studio time. Researching record labels and calling distributors. It’s reading up in music business. It’s investing in an RnB real singer for vocals. It’s listening to your beat 100 times and not rushing it, so it is a masterpiece...I would also say to someone younger 16-25yrs old. Get an internship at an Indie radio station or any radio station for that matter. Think of what you will learn and how many contacts you will get every week.

Zay told the truth fr. So many producer's beats sound the same to the point its really hard to stand out. Sometimes you jus really have to be blessed.
Good interview. Zay seems grounded and a relationship with God will keep you focused and your eyes on the prize. And a producer to stay around over 10 years is an accomplishment. Him and Gucci are just made for each other.
I like Zaytoven. I love his view on music with spirituality. Deff top 3 of my favorite producers.

2. Be your own individual. Zay is a legend with music he created and branding his own sound with real instruments particularly the organ. It's sad when you look another producer like Lex Luger who was unique, crafted his own sound, and was so successful with that sound he changed hip hop entirely and gave it new life. But never really got to chance to reap the benefits or recognition because so many other producers came in and began to steal his trademark.
Zaytoven is dropping some real knowledge here. Being a individual is a must if you are going to make in this industry and stand out from the rest. I also agree with the favor of God all things are possible. I got a lot respect for Zaytoven, he seems like a real down earth person.
It's good this brother said God bless him to be that successful he said the right thing
Zaytoven is a smart brother! I've been listening to his music for about 11 yrs now ... Great Producer

2:33 when he says pulling up at different studios, how do you exactly do that? Do you book a session with someone then meet new people or just walk right in?
crazy thing is we got alot in common i cut hair and make beats and my name Zae. I love watchin Zaytoven cook up tracks he hard.
DAMN I gotta get that book lol theres alot of books on businesses but none producer related ,shits dope
I like how he actually gave game instead of just saying " it's in the book you're gonna have to get the book if you want to know"
Great interview! Gotta lot of respect for zaytoven
That's the same word said when i started making beats Make and create Beatz my own way Just as Zay said be yourself and be unique And also be yourself
No one can replace Zay!
The sound of these trap beats today are based off Zaytovens style.. he's a Legend 1. 5 yrs Grinding even when you aren't being paid upfront 2. His sound didn't get accepted out the gate.. You got to believe 3. Have Faith... Know that everything isn't supposed to be in your control.
Powerful Interview from one of the best Producers in hiphop of all time zaytoven changed the game
My boy zay always inspirational. I'ma work wit him soon

Amen Zay
I agree with the comment be yourself too many people try to be everyone else but that. I'm a producer singer songwriter. I stopped trying to be anybody else but me. Thanks for the truth
Awesome ! Good job !
as a kid Zaytoven was probably like "mom, I want to become a producer full time," mom says, good luck with that, now go do your homework. now look at him, making millions and meeting famous rappers for his job.
Great great producer . Really respect this brother ✊🏿
Much Respect To Zaytoven...🙏🏿
Zaytoven - You hit me in the soul when you said your 3.Step !!! You took ONLY 5 years to become rich, living the way u live, while like you also said "there may be others who are maybe better than me but God will never put him in the position to "make it" - I'm one of these. Why?I started playing music as a child, a piano-flute in a small orchestra, then I had to move to another city...and now I'm sitting at the same spot after producing my music more than 10 years with different daw etc. - But I'm still broke like 10 years ago! Damn!Oh yeah...am older than you but still living with my parents. My artist name is The 41 Pills. I feel now like a totaly failure :/
I’m a young artist and so want to pursue in music and do what I love, but I don’t know how to stop anxiety from letting me make songs
Zaytoven is one of my favorite producers. My list: 1. Harry Fraud 2. Zaytoven 3. Ty Beats 4. 40 5. Metro Boomin

Zaytoven ,was the only reason I listened to Gucci, when he sounded like he had bad congestion.
Zaytoven is just an amazing human, doesn't drink or smoke goes to church made TRAP music and made millions of dollars for him and others.
That Future-Foreva track was his dopest beat he ever produced in my opinion.
I started producing in 2005 and I started rapping in 91 I have a lot of experience
i like zay more n more erryday

he blessing
He played organ in church. I noticed that overwhelmingly, musicians that make it have one thing in common - classical training in a real instrument usually before they started even writing beats. Also he is right you also need the blessing of God.
Great guy
