I don't think he's awkward at all. He just knows what he wants/ likes and doesn't want/ like and refuses to participate in anything that he doesn't like/ want to do, this resulting in brutal honesty.

Moz has become so much more relaxed in interviews for this album - loving the honest answers rather than incessant dodging...really gets across his incredible intelligence and charm. Thank you!!!

On after life: "I have a trouble believing in that sometimes... If we aren’t aware of life before we were born, how can we be aware of life when we’re dead?"

We don't remember our time as foetuses in the womb or when we were born. Does that mean we were never in the womb and never born? I'm surprised at Morrissey's lack of imagination here. He would make more sense if he said that the soul does not exist and therefore there can be no afterlife. How would a human baby remember a previous existence as its brain is brand 'new'? That would be like expecting a computer to have all the knowledge in the universe before it has even been programmed. Most people can't even remember what they ate for breakfast, so does that mean that they didn't eat breakfast? The conscious human mind might not be aware of a life before we were born, but the soul would remember everything. Its whether you believe that we have souls. Morrissey is presuming here that the meagre, primitive, dumb, human brain should/would know everything that has existed and does exist, but that's simply not possible or sensible to suggest. In fact, we all know nothing.

A confusing thing happens when an atheist converses with a theist. If you don't believe in a God and you believe that everything that makes someone an individual rots with the body, you obviously don't believe that the soul is transcendent. (This is the stance Morrissey seems to take, as I gather from Autobiography). He might equate the human mind you speak of with the soul of a person, as all individuality of a person lies in the mind. If you do believe in a God and transcendent soul, perhaps you think the soul is bigger than the mind. It's an argument that can't be had without addressing a different issue first. It would go nowhere. By the way, you've confused me a bit. I now no longer understand what a soul really is. If the soul doesn't carry our "meagre, primitive, dumb, human" brains, it doesn't carry our identities. What is it, then? How could it possibly be us?

One of the more pleasant interviews with Morrissey. He's usually very... non-committal with his answers, but here he seemed quite agreeable.

Unlike most other Morrissey interviews I've seen, I actually really enjoyed this one. For once our charming man appeared to be relaxed and in his normal state of being. Although what do I know about Morrissey's normal state of being? But in other interviews the atmosphere tends to spiral down into various unpleasant directions which have more to do with who is interviewing than to do with Morrissey himself. He simply reacts and gets pulled in despite clearly being self aware that he is of doing so. In this interview however, Zane has no ulterior motives that Morrissey has to be wary of, it's simply a conversation between two grown men who can appreciate music. His choice in clothes was also a good one. No flashy tight fitting suits, no baubles sprinkled over an open hairy chest. Just comfortable clothes you can feel at home in.

Morrisey likes to test his interviewers, and likes to play with them.As most of the time he finds it all tiresome, and tedious.Especially if they try to follow the standard line of questioning.Which someone as complex as Morrisey ,will just find lazy and boring. This is when interviews get awkward with him. This didnt happen to the large degree with Zane,as Morrisey knows hes a true music fan.Even though i still think at times the journalist in him came out.So all you get then from Morrisey ,is ducking round those type of universal questions. He has definatly become more tolerent over the years ,in the few interviews he has done though.Such a unique character as Morrisey is always going to be tricky. But i think on the whole here Zane did a well informed, good job.

I agree, he can be kind of an ass to interviewers (in the most admirable way). I think this was a good conversation because Zane wasn't a condescending jerk, and Morrissey probably was just cool with that and respected it. He is so wonderful...
